I usually look for a spot of green on the GPS in the form of a city park. On a recent shopping trip to the Waikele Outlets, I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the nearby Waikele Community Park is! We dropped off the shopper and drove just a few minutes. The park is shaped like a giant half circle with golf condos behind trees around it. The parking lot is very large with plenty of shaded parking. This park is awash in amenities: public clean restrooms, a community pool with generous hours (although be prepared for unexpected closings), a recreation office with many classes and activities, and picnic area (by permit). Everything we explored was spotless, no trash here. Uphill from the pool is a large open field perfect to play games, set up volleyball nets or tents. There was a large family gathering happening while we were there, and it looked so relaxing and shady. This is as perfect as an Oahu city park can be!

16 Acres Park in Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. I didn't know where 16 Acres Park was - even though I was born and raised on the Island of Oahu... lol! Why? Maybe because I hardly go to Mililani; my family doesn't live there; and I don't play soccer or basketball. Haha! I googled 16 Acres Park because I was supposed to meet someone there to pick up a gigantic prize package that I had won on Instagram. I gave them my phone number so they could text me when they arrived at the park after they finished work in Waialua. I used GPS to find Makaunulau Community Park (AKA 16 Acres Park) and parked near the restroom where there was a sign with the park's name. I texted a photo of the restroom to the contact person and they weren't familiar with this area of the park! I stated that there was no parking lot... and I saw a baseball diamond right in front of me and basketball courts far away. Eventually, she found me (I don't even know her name), and she helped me put all of the prizes in my car! But it will be a hassle to hold it and either walk to the bathroom across the park or simply drive there. I'm not fond of public restrooms so it's best to hold it til I get home. TMI, but let's be honest here. Those would be my plans..but for the kids sake, yikes! Playground is nice but located towards the corner with only a fence to block kiddos from running to the parking lot but definitely will not stop them from running on the road.. It could use some improvements: fenced off playground and a bathroom facility closer to the parking lot side. However, yes obviously parents should keep an eye on the kiddos at all times and not play the darn PoGo game. Nonetheless, my family and I will always choose to frequent this park the most. Very spacious, ample parking, and a great place to teach my son how to ride a bike.

I also love this park because it's situated in a family friendly community and just a bike ride away from my house. One negative part is that it gets to scorching temperatures due to lack of trees near the tennis and basketball courts. The only shade you will find will be close to the fence. Another negative part is that there is no fence around the perimeter of the basketball court so please believe you'll have a fun time chasing your own ball.

The security guards don't like you parking at the mall if your going to the park so be aware of where you park. My husband coaches football here so we are here every day of the week M- F. The park is very nice other then that, alot of shaded areas. And we do enjoy it here.

I have driven by this park countless times and thinking I want to bring my little one to play here…read more From far away it looks great. So I finally decided to stop by for some outdoor playtime with my little. I am sure that at some point this was an amazing park for your toddler/kids and it still is if you play tennis or other things. The two stars are because of the playground. It is really heartbreaking to see the condition of this playground. What is even sadder is my toddler saying "sowwy mommy, bwoken" and you are trying to explain that yes it is broken but it is not their fault. The playground is full of grafitti, profanity written on benches, play structure, etc. There is vandalism, broken cracked slide, trash, and exposed metal that has rusted (hope you have your tetanus shots!) throughout. It felt so uncomfortabke having my son play here for fear that he might get hurt since the equipment has not been cared for. Another thing is if you are wanting to sit down, the benches do not offer a good view of the whole play area so you have to really circle around if your little one still cant climb well/etc. It is also reslly hot here and there is no shade except from the little towers of the play structure. Every other part of this park has better maintennance, I just wish this playground had a little tlc and it would be more enjoyable.

I also can try the cul de sacs, however most times these side streets are pretty crowded. w So why would I need to go the park when it's raining? Well, just like everyone else around the area, I have a dog and I live in a townhouse. Poor puppy will wake me up at 2 am if I don't get her good and tired. So, we go to the park. Leading into the secondly... Secondly, I have been doing this for over a year and by now, my dog has friends. Like, a lot of friends. And the humans aren't so bad either. We, dogs adn humans, all get along swimmingly, giving both our dogs and us a chance to socialize. We share water bowls and trade dinner ideas, rosemary and training tips. It's a responsible, playful and peaceful scene. For the kids, there is a jungle gym that can get crowded, tennis backboards, and basketball courts. Also open space for playing whatever else you can think of. It can get crowded in the afternoon with baseball practice and the A-plus kids. Also the kids can leave a lot of rubbish and snacks around that the dogs can get into, so you gotta watch that. But other than that, its a fun, sober, happy hour. See you there!

A huge beautiful park in Mililani Mauka…read more.. Mililani does have beautiful parks and this one is no different. It does have a tiny parking lot though with lots of street parking accessing this location is very easy. My only problem is the shading so if you plan to enjoy this park and need some shade it's probably not for you though it's hard not to get drawn in as the insanely huge grassy area does make you want to just stroll in to chill. There are basketball courts, baseball field and even a cute jungle gym, one that I actually took advantage to stretch and take in all the vitamin D, even though the park sits right beside the freeway being so vast all you really hear are the birds and not much else which makes it a great way to escape and enjoy a beautiful well kept park. Thank you!
