This visit, however, was not your average dental situation. I somehow managed to get a ring stuck on my finger to the point where it swelled up to the point of no return. I tried everything--ice water, elevation, the dental floss trick, crying, prayers... nothing worked. Enter Dr. Meade, my unexpected hero. He was able to cleanly cut the ring off, immediately relieve the swelling, and preserve my ring so it can be repaired. And while I was not-- he was very calm, precise, and reassuring the whole time. We DEMANDED and REQUIRED WRITTEN PRE-AUTHORIZATION AND PRE-DETERMINATION prior to any treatment to ensure no "surprise billing" and to stay within yearly insurance maximum. It was clearly documented on the patient intake form and billing contract they require you to sign (‼read the patient pay responsibility before signing) The dentist performed the first dental procedure, soon thereafter realized that we did not receive pre-authorization and pre-determination. When I asked for a copy later, I was told they couldn't provide it after the service was already done. The issues continued with December 2025 cleaning. Upon reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOB), discovered: A cleaning was performed during a separate dental work appointment without patient knowledge, which exhausted insurance benefits for the year. Consequently, December cleaning was not covered. The office billed for X-rays in December 2025 that were explicitly declined because we already made 2026 Dental appointments at a different facility and provider due to dental office' lack of transparency and communication. Formal grievance and dispute were filed with insurance and notified the Dental billing office, zero response or resolution from the dentist's side. Scheduling Irregularities Most recently, received an alarming appointment reminder for Monday, 4/20/2026 for an appointment the patient did not schedule because of work schedule conflict. ‼ Advice for Future Patients: DEMAND and REQUIRE WRITTEN Pre-Authorization and pre-determination for every treatment before it begins. Verify In-Network Status: Confirm every charge against your yearly maximum benefit. Document Everything: If you write specific requirements on their digital or paper intake forms, take a photo of it immediately. Do not rely on the office to track your specific billing constraints. Check your EOBs: Always cross-reference your insurance statements with the work actually performed to catch unauthorized billing.
