Each park has a shade structure with a picnic table underneath it, but other than that it is just a hard ground baking platform under the sun we were here at the beginning of March and it was already getting a little warm for comfort.

There is a nice pathway all the way around that I love to walk while my dogs play. There is also plenty of shade. The small dog side does not have the space for a walkway, but has plenty of seating for hanging out with your dogs. There are water fountains for humans and dogs on both sides and rakes and shovels to use as pooper scoopers. Pretty much everyone that goes there are friendly and attentive of their dogs. The parks are poop free most of the time, but sometimes there is a missed pile. The fencing is pretty secure, but very small dogs can get under the fence between the big and small dog areas. Just keep an eye on your wee pups. Parking is very close and there are plenty of spaces. There is also a playground nearby if you have children old enough to play on their own. Another cool thing is that Ivan was a Tucson PD Canine and this dog park is a memorial to him.

The parks got ample space, shade, trees, trash bins, pooper scoopers, and 2 water fountains. I'd recommend bringing your own water as my dog has gotten sick from drinking the fountain water twice now. Please clean up after your pet, keep an eye on them, and just be a responsible pet parent. The dog park isn't a daycare for your animal to just do as they please and not be corrected. I've seen a few dogs get into fights because 1 owner wasn't being responsible. Take accountability and look after your own damn animal. Don't be the reason or person that ruins the park for others. :)

We've taken to walking in the park on weekends in lieu of walking downtown these days, and McDonald…read morePark is pretty perfect for it. It has a nicely paved path, and when the path is busy with people (yes, we are taking distancing seriously), there are some unpaved trails that connect around the perimeter too that we can duck out on to. The paved trail is very well kept, and on our last visit, we noticed that the park employees actually go so far as to blow dust, dirt, and debris off of it periodically too. The entire loop is about 0.75 miles, so we do a few laps, and it's a peaceful experience. The dog parks (there are two) here are pretty cool, too. They get lots of use, and they seem to be very clean. We've never seen anything but dogs having fun! McDonald park also has LOTS of baseball diamonds and grassy areas, which is awesome because we enjoy tossing the softball around. We go at off hours, so we never run into organized games, so there's always plenty of space for us to play. We also use the basketball court often, which is paved nice and smoothly, and the net definitely has been replaced when needed. There are lights on the court, too, so play during dusk is possible. The park also features a playground that is almost always being used when we're walking around or playing ball. I'm not sure on its upkeep, but the rest of the park is clean all the time, so I'd say it's probably fine too. Something that some people may not notice, but I do, is that there are lots of garbage cans throughout the park, even a bunch on the walking trail loop. No excuse to litter and muck up our beautiful natural spaces! This is a really great park with a lot of amenities (even bathrooms). It is well taken care of. The verandas and picnic table areas, as well as the parking lots, very rarely have any trash around. And the trash cans are mostly empty. Everything seems to be in working order, and if it's not, it is by our next visit. The staff here does a really great job!

My review is for the pool area and I give it a one start due…read moreto our experience with one of the life guards.I went with my sister and the two kiddos (4&6). There was one other family there with a young girl who played with my daughters. Within 2 minutes the life guard yelled (SCREAMED) at my 6 year old for skipping. I understand there's rules but she even made me jump by how loud she screamed. I reminded my little girls no running or skipping. It was quiet like I said there was one other small family and that's it. There was no chaos so the loud screaming was too much. Two more times this same life guard SCREAMED at my daughter for being in the water that was more shallow and somewhat jumping? That's the best way I can put it but after made a remark to the other life guards saying that they didn't need that today and she wasn't going to put up with it. After that my family along with the other family (who we did not know) were so caught off guard that we gathered our things and left. My kids were not being crazy. They were not loud. They did not run. Every time they were SCREAMED at was in the water (even the skipping was in the shallow end) We respect rules but how she talked to my kids was so unnecessary and ruined the girls experience and had my one daughter in tears. The other family came up to us after and said they have been there many times and never seen that happen before and apologized for them. We all felt second hand embarrassment with how rude this life guard was and all the lifeguards seemed uncomfortable and didn't step in to do or say anything. The slide wasn't running which is fine. My daughter wanted to use the diving board but couldn't because she had googles on which she needs but ok I understand all that. My problem was how rude and mean the lifeguard was to a four and six year old. The pool was completely empty within 20mins of us arriving and leaving with the other random family. I guess she got want she wanted. A empty pool with no work to do. I've never experienced this with a lifeguard in my life. It was pretty extreme. I didn't make a scene because of the children but I will be going back to get her name and take this further.

However with the slide and the diving board the kids had a blast! I like the beach entrance to the pool- however it's not a very big pool. I think that they allow too many Summer Camps/Programs to come all at the same time and it should be limited. The pool was completely packed- I know its summer, but it was very crowded. I also know that with so many Tucson pools closed due to budget this causes this cramped issue, but still there was no swimming what so ever as there was so many kids. EVERYWHERE!! The kids had fun and well i'm just glad to let them cool off in a pool that allows them to have fun on a water slide and jump of a diving board. SO eh and well hey... :)
