Exceeds expectations for a waffle house. The staff was fast, friendly and put extra effort into quality service.

I got the club salad, wings and onion rings. The club salad is made with mixed greens, cubed smoked ham, julienned turkey, sliced bacon, diced tomatoes and shredded cheddar cheese. It was served cold and fresh. It's a good size, so I have plenty left for tomorrow's lunch. I wasn't sure which sauce I wanted for the wings, so she brought a sample of the kicking' bourbon sauce and some blackberry habanero sauce she just made. Both were very good, but the blackberry habanero was my favorite. She brought the wings out with no sauce on them. I don't know if that's because I already had the samples of sauce on the table, or if that's how she normally serves them. I would have preferred them tossed in the sauce, and served with bleu cheese dressing to dip them in. They were good sized and cooked just right. Crispy skins, tender and moist inside. I don't usually order onion rings when I go out, because I'm very picky about them. These were good. The onions were tender. The batter was crispy and flavorful. I had my dog with me, so we sat on the back porch. The owner brought a bowl of cool water for my dog. There are nice picnic tables with chairs, a tin roof and a wooded lot, so it was nice and cool even on a hot day.

I have eaten here several times since I moved to Camden, SC in May of last year and the food has…read morealways been very good. The name, Water We Eatin,' is a clever play on the nearby Wateree River and the age-old question, What Are We Eating? The previous owners recently sold the establishment and I went back for the first time since then this week. The new owners kept most of the staff, the name of the restaurant, the menu and the prices. The prices can't be beat and the staff has always been very friendly. The location is kinda in the middle of nowhere. It appears to be an old gas station that has been repurposed. To me, it screams South Carolina and I like that. I got the rib-eye steak ad baked potato without thinking I also got it the last time I ate here before the ownership change. The difference between the two dining experiences eye opening and I don't mean that in a good way, I am sorry to say. As soon as we began to put butter on our potato, the three of us realized it was not cooked all the way through. My fork would barely make a dent. I was already worried because that should have been the easiest part of the meal to get right and to check before it was brought out. The server was apologetic and said he would have the cook pop three new potatoes in the oven. Which is fine and we appreciated that, but now we had steak on our plate and no potato. So I started in on the steak. Last time the steak was very tender. Not so much this time. It was tough to cut. The seasoning was not as good this time as last. I don't know if the seasoning was different this time or if it was just not seasoned as much, but it was noticeable. The new potato when it came out was cooked fine, but the whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth, to use a bad pun. I liked the tea. Being from the south, I ordered it sweetened and it came just as I prefer, sweet, but not thick and syrupy like some places serve it. I am open to going back and if I do, I will update this review. People are allowed to have bad days. It may be a learning experience for the new owners. I am pulling for them as I prefer locally-owned places with character than cookie cutter national chains where every location looks the same. I hope to try their breakfast for the first time at some point.

It was everything we wanted...EVERYTHING. The restaurant was adorable, the service was fast, friendly and above and beyond. The cute cashier answered every question we had about even the simplest thing on the menu. And the food. The food was beyond what you would expect when you walk through the door. My dad got a slaw dog that came with chili, onions, and a bunch of other things on it. My mom got a hamburger all the way and french fries - She could only eat about half of it. My husband got a triple burger with french fries which he raved about. And I got the grilled chicken Philly with mozzarella cheese and grilled onions that was so delicious that i only wish that I'd ordered a second one just so I would've had more leftovers. The portions are perfect and a little on the larger side so we took leftovers home. You have the option with each meal for two sides. And you can either double up on fries or do like I did and get fries and a mini side salad. I would go here again and again. I've mentioned it to a few people that have also raved about this place as well. What a hidden gen and what a great place when you're in the area. You will not be disappointed!

When I walked in, the phone rang with a to go order. The gentleman taking the order rolled his eyes a few times as he took the order. Glad they couldn't see that over the phone but not a great customer experience. He gruffly took my order and I went and find a table in the open restaurant. The lunch rush started once I sat and the phone was ringing consistently and a regular stream of folks came into the restaurant many greeting "Mr. Blackmon" at the counter. :/ My name was shouted and I went and grabbed my hot dog and tater tots. As others have acknowledged, the hot dog chili is REALLY watery. With an untoasted bun, I assumed that the bun wouldn't last two bites. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The pimento cheese in the bottom must protect the structural integrity of the bun. I was really pleased. The pimento cheese and the chili really tasted good together. The tater tots were nicely crispy but unseasoned. Though I enjoyed my meal, I think I'd go elsewhere if I return to Camden just due to the attitude of the gentleman at the counter.

I visited the Gyromania Grill at 2558 Main Street in Elgin…read morefor lunch today (First Time) and I was totally enthralled & impressed with the restaurant, the food, and the staff. Having moved down to South Carolina six years ago, & given the hyper local establishments nearby my home that offer something I can only say somewhat passes for a gyro sandwich, Gyromania Grill far exceeded my expectations, and passion for an Authentic gyro, the kind I recall from up in New York yonder. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, and was greeted by Sheila, to receiving my Hummus appetizer with pita bread triangles, to receiving my Gyro pita sandwich, I couldn't believe how authentically tasty & delicious the food was. The food is prepared fresh on the spot, nothing laying around in heating hampers, from the french fries that are cut fresh daily, and fried when ordered, to the veggies that garnish the Gyro, to the freshly prepared tzatziki, my taste buds exploded with excitement at how delicious everything tasted. Honestly, I never expected to have that sensation of a well prepared Gyro the likes of what I recalled from NY, down here in S.C. but alas, I found *THE* spot for authentic, Great tasting Greek food. The restaurant itself is bright, open, VERY CLEAN! (I mean, Extreme Clean!) You can tell the employees take pride in presenting the establishment and the food they serve in the spotlight. Watching the staff behind the counter prepare the food, I noted how friendly and happy everyone was, no "fanny frowner /why am I here" faces, and compared to oh so many other food establishments I've been to, that impressed me a lot. I originally was going to order the lemon potatoes with my gyro, but they weren't prepared when I ordered, yet once they were, Sheila and her assistant surprised me by bringing by a little sample for me to taste, so next time I come in, I will absolutely enjoy them with my order, but the greek seasoned fries that came with my Gyro were trey`delicious just the same! The restaurant atmosphere is nice, I got there right before the lunch crowd, so it wasn't too crowded, I'm told sometimes the place can get really packed (no doubt, people enjoy eating delicious & tasty food, & Gyromania Grill delivers that!) The portions are decent, the prices very reasonable, the staff is friendly, and even if you have to drive a little out of the way to get there (as I did) it's well worth the effort. I Absolutely WILL BE Returning again in the very near future, and look forward to sharing the Gyromania Grill experience with folks I know will appreciate how authentic and well prepared this food is. ***** 5-STARS ***** For Cleanliness, Quality, Service & Value! Put Gyromania on your bucket list of places to visit for a great meal! You won't regret it. `JT

"Retreat? More like Retreat from Flavor."…read more If you're looking for a place with gorgeous views, a nice interior, and food that tastes like it was prepared by a distracted toddler with access to a microwave -- look no further! Let's start with the espresso martini, which arrived looking like it had just lost a bet with a gallon of skim milk. It tasted like someone whispered the word "coffee" into a glass of dairy and then threw in three coffee beans to give the illusion of effort. Fancy? Sure. Flavorful? Absolutely not. I've had stronger coffee vibes from a candle. Didn't get any appetizers, probably a blessing in disguise. Straight to the pasta, which came out looking like it had just been scooped out of a kid's menu at a bowling alley birthday party. Imagine Chef Boyardee got promoted and immediately overcharged for it. That's the vibe. As for the service, it was slow enough that I had time to consider starting a new life as a lake hermit. When it came time to pay, I literally had to write down my order to help the server -- who then still managed to create a culinary version of musical chairs with our table's meals. Everyone got someone else's dish, which might've been fun if it were a potluck. It was not. The scenery? Gorgeous. The inside of the restaurant? Super nice. Honestly, if they'd served the ambiance instead of the food, this would've been a five-star experience. But alas, The Retreat truly lived up to its name -- I retreated straight to the nearest gas station for a Lunchable and some dignity.
