I started playing golf when I was 10 years old (now 39yo), learning the game from 3-4 different teaching professionals from the age of 10 - 17. I played competitively via junior golf and high school golf with a low index of 4.2, and currently am a weekend hacker carrying a 6.1 index. After my high school golf "career", I swore off teaching professionals because I found that the lessons I received conflicted with the golf swing my mind and body were searching for. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Jim Hartnett when signing up for a gym membership at the same facility that Jim gives golf lessons at. Prior to meeting Jim in-person, I thoroughly researched him online, and stumbled upon what I believe to be one of the best & most insightful golf books I've ever read--"Golf for the other 80%: The answer to why you can't improve". After reading his book from cover to cover, I knew I needed to see the application of his golf swing theories first hand, and subsequently had a one hour golf lesson with Jim. Simply put, Jim is a true maverick in the golf instruction space. His approach to golf instruction is completely different from the numerous golf lessons I've had in the past. Jim is incredibly knowledgeable about the golf swing and its associated mechanics, applies the latest and greatest golf swing technology into his lessons, and approaches teaching in a much more practical application manner vs theoretical / didactic manner, which I very much appreciated. After my first one hour lesson with Jim, my understanding of the golf swing had taken a quantum leap forward, and many of the golf swing mysteries I had been trying to solve for years were finally put into focus. The facility is a really advanced facility for all aspects of your game. It's NOT just a simulator, there are cameras there that will show you clubhead path, impact, your swing, your body positioning, speed, rotation and a lot of other things I don't know on every swing. I decided to take a lesson with Roy, and since my name is also Roy I thought it might be a good omen. McQuiag had me hit a few balls and within five hits he saw a lot of fundamental problems with my grip ALONE. He explained how my grip was effecting my anatomy and thus swing. It was awkward at first but after some clean ones it started to fall into place. Roy's diagnosis was so good I was upset that I'd spent the previous year with instructors who just phoned it in. Roy has integrity and will help you understand what you need to work on that is specific to you. He cares about the people he comes into contact with and it shows. I've since made a commitment to Roy as my instructor moving forward. You should too.

We looked at inconsistencies in my swing and attacked them piece by piece. It was incredibly helpful being able to see my swing frame by frame to highlight what was going wrong, and what was going right. Logan showed me some really great drills to practice on the range to help my ball compression. Also, really appreciate how there was no pushy sales tactics regarding booking another lesson. 100% will be booking another lesson. No hello, no good morning, nothing. We were the only two people in the pro shop. It was very weird. When asked if we could possibly tee off earlier, he gave us an explanation that made zero sense and treated us like we were stupid for even asking. Apparently 7AM means, "there's no room" to tee off before 7AM. Well, there is room as no one playing 18 holes tees off before 7AM. People playing 9 holes tee off earlier but on a different starting hole. We also have eyes and could see no one was teeing off. So, there is plenty of "room". We are talking about golf, not hotel vacancy. I have had other courses be more than accommodating with this type of request and almost encourage it because it's going to get groups out and keep the pace of play flowing. I find it very strange when businesses choose to put an asshole with zero personality or customer service skills as the representative who takes money from guests and is typically their first impression of the course. The course is fine. Overpriced but decent. The greens were very smooth. Soggy in a lot of spots. The starter asked what tees I was thinking of playing off and I told him probably orange. I decided the black tee box was in better shape on our starting hole and decided to tee it up there. The next thing I see is the starter hurrying over through a packed practice green shouting why I wasn't playing from the orange tees. What??? He then stood next to the tee box staring at me while I teed off. Leave the paying guests alone and also have some golf etiquette.

Check-in was smooth, we were given a cart, and paired with Marla and Trish, who have played this course for years and made the round even more enjoyable. Holes 4 and 5 were my favorites. There are some challenging shots, but overall it's very playable and beginner-friendly. I'm still learning and walked away with a few bogeys, which felt great. OVERALL I only recently started playing with my best friend, and this has quickly become one of my favorite courses. Great place to play, learn, and enjoy the scenery. I'll definitely be back and hope to make this a regular stop. Highly recommend.

When I arrived to check in, I was suddenly told the rate was $110 per player for nine holes, almost double; and that's for a walking senior!!! I explained that I had been quoted a lower rate on the phone, but the staff member dismissed it, saying he "thought I was a resident of Laguna Beach or Dana Point." That's not my problem. If the course can't communicate their rates accurately, the customer shouldn't pay for their mistake. The course itself is an executive nine-hole layout with no ocean views; certainly not worth $110 for a walking round. It feels as though they're trying to price out everyday golfers and cater exclusively to the wealthy. I refused to play on principle and canceled. I could have paid the higher rate, but I won't reward that kind of bait-and-switch pricing. Golf should be accessible, and this experience left a sour taste. This is an overpriced course with inconsistent, and disappointing customer service.

Recently I had the chance to take golf lessons from Seiko. I've noticed the difference after the first lesson with her. I am able to hit the ball much farther than before and with much more confidence than ever. Seiko is a wonderful person, down to earth and very patient with her students. She takes her time with her students explaining the different aspects of the game to you. Seiko teaches out of the South Orange County area, the beautiful Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course. Whether if you live in the area, have to travel from a different county, or even have drive an hour or more to come see her, she is well worth it. You will not be disappointed!
