I found out their hours and went to stand in line on a Tuesday morning before they opened. I was second in line at 7:30. By 7:55 there were 12-15 people in line behind me. They took my keys and information and said they'd call when they had an idea of what was wrong. I stopped by at 4:30pm that day and they said they were about to call me. There was an issue with the cv axels in my car. They didn't even charge me to look at the car (YMMV there). They said they'd figure out a quote to do the repair but that the car was mine to take right then since I was on foot. They texted the next day saying that the car needed cv axels on both sides and they gave me a price out the door. I said to go ahead and order the parts. I was in line again the next day. This time I was first in line and by the time they opened there were about 10 people behind me. Moral of the story here - Tuesdays are busy because that's their first open day of the week. By 11am that day, my car was fixed. They charged exactly the quoted amount and I haven't had any issues since. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area. As long as you're ok with a "stand in line" type of situation instead of making a reservation, this is easily the best/most honest mechanic in the area.

On top of that, it is his baby and very sentimental. A while back he was in a car accident and the other driver's insurance accepted responsibility - which meant that we had to go through their processes. I was EXTREMELY worried about the quality of the work but was so relieved to see all the positive reviews on here for Avondale Independent. They did NOT let us down. Their work is immaculate - clean, beautifully done, and the attention to detail was wonderful. They kept us informed at every step of the process, worked with the insurance to get an end product we would be happy with and they could be proud of, and requested additional time from the insurance company when needed - instead of cutting corners to get things done with mediocre parts. On top of that, their honesty and candor with the process and our options made the world of difference. We knew we could trust what they said because it wasn't always the most expensive option (they told us if they really didn't think something needed to be changed etc.). Finally, on top of all of that, the people were my favorite part. I spoke with Kelly so much, I felt I knew her before we actually met. Their knowledge of our not-so-common car was impressive and MUCH appreciated. I HIGHLY recommend them.

My faithful Ford Fusion which had never needed more than break work before was going to need a serious repair. I needed somewhere close by that seemed to do good work and wouldn't rip me off. So I went to Yelp, and once again I was not disappointed. This shop honestly doesn't look like much on the outside, barred up windows and a bluish-gray exterior. Its different on the inside though--leather couches make up a comfortable seating area. The service here is excellent and friendly, and the owner/mechanic seemed concerned with making sure he got my car back to me in a timely manner. I can appreciate that. I can also deeply appreciate that when I got my car back, it ran like new, and he charged me less than I've been charged for any repair job in years. I was driving my 2015 Tiguan cross country from LA to ATL when my check engine light came on in TX. I did the code reading and found out the intake manifold runner control was having issues which was in turn causing engine misfires. At this time, I called five dealers in the Oklahoma and Arkansas area and they did not have much experience or thought on the matter. Just mentioned that I should bring in the vehicle for a diagnostics and wait 5-6 hours for labor once they figured out the problem. Since my destination was ATL, I called Jim Ellis VW Atlanta and advisor Scott Croston picked up my call. Scott put my mind at ease when he told me the issues he has seen throughout the last several years in regards to the intake manifold runner and told me I should be alright finishing my drive as long as the check engine light did not blink (which indicates misfires). Once I arrived in ATL, I immediately made a service appointment with Scott. When I arrived, he greeted me with professionalism and great customer service. I waited in the customer lounge for about 45 mins while they ran the diagnostics. Then Scott came out to talk to me about the issue and how long it was going to take to repair the intake manifold (2 hours--at least 3 hours less than the other dealers). No hassle or issues. No trying to sell me on other services which I greatly appreciated. All in all, my experience with Jim Ellis Service and Scott Croston was far beyond any service expectations. Thank you.
