Two times I have had them look at a problem that they couldn't address and I ultimately took it to the dealer. Both times he wouldn't charge me anything (despite then spending over an hour investigating) b/c he said they couldn't fix the problem so no charge. I have taken my car twice to Brian. I waited to write this review . I wanted to give them a second chance. The second time I went to his shop he told me after having the car for two weeks to change the radiator (400.00) he told us the problem has not been resolved and we needed another (488.00 more in repair) we agreed to the repair . My car sat for weeks while I rented a car, only got fixed (in 2 days) when I paid to tow it elsewhere. Definitely show up to the location, do not try and call. They never answer their phones, are completely unresponsive, give bad advice. If you can get through expect it to take a couple weeks to get fixed. Only redeemable quality are the prices are decent. read more

I used to live around the corner from this shop, which made it my go-to when I needed repairs. They were always completely honest with me and got my repairs done within a day. Also I once thought I had car issues and dropped my car off. Turned out it was just cold weather giving my car a hard time, not the car itself (Hey, I'm from Florida). Brian didn't even charge me to look at the car and said I could drop it off again if I had problems. That's a rarity, my friends -- I even had my checkbook in my hand. And while I've read that they will drop you off where you need to go, it's only a short 20 minute walk from the East Lake MARTA station (get your exercise). Overall = Not crap. read more

Took my Nissan Altima here to get diagnosed. Was asked if I knew what a car battery was besides an alternator. I believe a car battery is definitely common knowledge even though I'm a woman. Quoted $690; So I called around other nearby shops for quotes for $590 & $577. I called Intown back up and said these are the quotes I received, can you come down a little even if only by fifty bucks. Intown response,"Only if you have a basement I can live in." I decided to pay the forty dollar diagnostic fee and drive my car to another shop. Within thirty minutes another garage (Roger Jordan) called and said you don't need an alternator at all, just a battery. They said you would of bought an unneeded alternator. I am a teacher and would not recommend any woman go to this place. read more

I've been taking our cars to Brian and his team for years. He's as solid as they come. Today, I dropped my family van off for a simple alignment and oil change. Brian called to say there was an issue with the steering assembly, and instead of just telling me the issue and saying I have to pay for it, he told me he thought warranty should cover it and that I should call dealers to see! Turns out, its not under warranty and he is going to get the business anyways, but his honesty in the matter rises above. If you go to him, you'll get solid work and comfort in the honesty. I first heard about these guys by checking reviews for autocare in the area, as my car was in need of some service and I wanted to know which mechanics around here were shady and which were trustworthy. Unfortunately, I got the chance to put this to the test when my car started running hot and overheating earlier this week! I remembered that Intown Autocare was fairly close and basically limped over to their service center, knowing an overheating engine is always something you address ASAP. Even though they were PACKED, they took me in and promised to help me find out what was wrong. Not only did they get to the bottom of the issue, but after realizing how new the car was (2013 model), they urged me to take it to a dealership where it could be fixed under warranty for free, rather than just using that opportunity to take advantage of me. I paid just for the diagnosis, which helped a ton to get me on the right path. Absolutely recommend these guys in every way. Their customer service is phenomenal (Brian even stayed later after closing time to let me pick up my car) and the prices were fair for the work they did. I will definitely be returning to them for any of my car needs. read more

My fiancee takes her car and truck for an occasional tune up given that both are old cars. She has never said anything negative about Intown Autocare. In fact, she appreciates their brutal honesty and lack of "your flux capacitor is leaking" scare tactics. One of the nice things that they have is a secure key drop, and you can pick up the car at your convenience as their front lot is not locked up. I haven't had the pleasure to deal with them, but when I see the bill I know that my fiancee is not getting a bad deal for the services rendered. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change and general inspection just to make sure everything was doing okay. I got there at 10am, but didn't get to leave with my car until a little after 6pm (that's 8 hours). I called at approximately 3:30 to see how they were doing, and they still hadn't even started looking at my car. at 4:30 they had, and had a couple of things they needed to work on before I could leave. I'm fine with the last hour and a half...but the 6 1/2 hours of wait time for nothing was really frustrating. When I called to make an appointment they said they had one person in at 8 but the rest of the day was open, and when I came in they said it would take a "couple hours," which is fine, but there's no way I would expect 8. Other than time, it was reasonable price and they were nice (which is why it's a 2 but not a 1 star). But EIGHT hours for something routine? That wasn't how I wanted to spend my day, regardless of the coffee shop and restaurants around. read more

Recently I needed a quick oil change before a drive to Charleston. Intown offered to fit me in that very day, and one of the staff gave me a ride to work. They not only changed the oil, they rotated my tires at no extra charge! That was a happy surprise. However, I did have to wait 3 hours for the work to be done, which is a little longer than I would've liked. I am pissed that I even have to do this review because I already knew not to bring my car here but my significant other took our Mercedes R-350 here for a simple oil change. I had already researched reputable repair shops that specialize in this type vehicle but because he was in a rush he took it to Intown Auto Care. Got the car back and on a simple drive to Gwinnett ---the car started smoking like a train. At first I attributed it to a possible small oil spill (which would still mean sloppy work at best) but after a couple of hours the smoke has gotten worse---I'm in route to them now but hate to say I knew better. My first time using this place and I would absolutely recommend this business. Brian answered my call right away about servicing my car for brake service. In addition to a concrete estimate, he was quick to suggest bringing in my car and letting them see if i truly needed a brake replacement. So, the next morning, I drove up to the place, dropped off my car and awaited the diagnosis. I had also mentioned that I needed an oil change, if he could squeeze the service in as well...After several hours, Brian called me with the good news that I had at least 50% wear left on my front brakes and 70% on the rear. I was pleased to here that and was grateful for the honesty. These guys are very nice! Being a woman, I know mechanics absolutely LOVE to rip me off- however Brian did not! I've heard that he's kinda rude at times, but I've never experienced that before (and I've been quite a few times, along with a few of my family members) and he's been as nice as they come. Maybe a little blunt, but he certainly does fix your car without any bait and switches (which is definitely hard to find) I've worked on cars a bit myself, however I have no code reader so I rarely go to the mechanic unless completely necessary. I've taken my car there several times this year, in fact it's there right now. I've always been satisfied when the work was done. They are not cheap but but worth it to know that your car was fix for the problem it was brought in for. I'm not sure how the above people were seen so quickly. I've usually had to drop my car off during the weekend and it would take a day or two just for them to look at it, and another few days to get it done. Heaven forbid, I had to drop it off on Thursday or Friday, I'd be (and I have been) stranded for a week. I know they are very busy and are closed for the weekend but I've never had to leave my car so long anywhere else. Other than that, Brian is very personable and professional, and the work is good. My car was in for an ignition replacement a couple of months back and the shop diagnosed an issue with an O ring that seals the gap between the distributor and the engine. The ignition switch failed last week and I had to return the car for replacement. To lessen the blow of having to replace the switch, I thought I'd give them the opportunity to replace the O ring, so I asked them to do it. I can't now express to you how angry I am about the situation with my car. I have now owned this car for a little less than two years and not one person has changed the oil in it other than myself. When you combine this with the fact that the last time I put a wrench on it on the second of August 2012, I had no problems with my oil pan. The drain plug still tightened just fine. Working on the distributor does not require the oil to be drained. Yet I received a call from The owner telling me that my drain plug would not tighten properly. I realize that parts eventually are going to wear out, and there's a chance that one of the mechanics tried to tighten the plug simply to factory specs and it was time for it to give out. I may have discovered this myself the next time I changed the oil and then the car would still not be safe to drive. But since no one was asked to touch it, and replacing a distributor O ring and changing the ignition doesn't require it, there was no reason for someone to tighten the drain plug without my asking about it. The car wasn't there to have the oil changed, and now my oil pan IS ruined. It was then basically implied by Brian (The Owner), that I was trying to freeload the replacement of a part that shouldn't have been touched anyway. I pay my debts and this is absolutely infuriating to me. I am a mechanically inclined person, and a tradesman of at least some skill and attention to detail. I'm the department head for an entertainment rigging and installation company. The liability for mistakes and or damage really doesn't get much higher than what I deal with on a daily basis. I permanently hang heavy and expensive equipment for a living. If I or one of my guys damages a piece of equipment during an installation, it is their duty and then mine to relate this information to my clients and customers. If you ask any of my apprentices or the people I work beside they will tell you that I value their honesty and I'll be the first one to admit that I've made a mistake. It's extremely important to me. The owner of this business should question and watch his employees. Pretending to be a friendly neighbor doesn't entail tinkering with and ruining additional parts on a person's vehicle to try and create more cash flow and business. I call it like I see it. Let the customer beware. read more

I had a terrible experience at this place. I went in with my check engine light on after having had the codes read at auto zone. I told the guy who I spoke to (I think his name was Brian), and he was very dismissive. At first, I couldn't quite figure out why someone who's job it is to diagnose a problem would react this way to information about the problem. Then he charged me $80 just for the diagnosis! What a joke! That annoyed me enough to take it somewhere else for the repairs. Intown Auto care wanted to replace a part that with labor was going to cost over $300. I took my car to my new favorite mechanic shop (Roger Jordan on Dekalb Ave), and it turns out that my check engine light was on only because I wasn't tightening my gas cap enough. If you live in the Oakhurst area, and Intown auto care seem seems convenient because you so close, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!! Make the drive to Roger Jordan, or anywhere else. I would rather walk to work than take my car back to intown Auto Car. In a word: sleazy read more

Dependable, honest, personable, courteous, local, and generous - it's hard to find a better mechanic than these guys. I had an awful experience at this place. I took my car in orginally because my coolant was leaking and my car was over heating. They looked at it and said my water pump was leaking and that I would need to replace that, my thermometer and a belt. The reason I went with them was that it was reasonably close to my home and another place close by had gotten more bad reviews. As a female I was really hoping to find a place I could trust and that wouldn't give me the run around. I had them fix everything for $400 seemingly that it would be done and that would be it. About a week and a half later my warning light came back on but the temp was fine, then a few more days later my car over heated once again. I put some coolant in it and waited another day and through the weekend and it was still over heating. Go back to them very upset that the same thing is happening and they say now it is my radiator leaking and it will be another $280. I am very upset that this was not fixed before and do not really know if they even checked the radiator before or if what I paid for actually helped or if I just got ripped off. Brian wasn't able to lower the price at all to help me out. Luckily I found a friend who was able to install one I got at NAPA. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

Our car died and Intown Autocare was the closest mechanic to our house at the time. He said it was the timing belt and would be $800..claims to have replaced it and that it still didn't work and needed the cam shafts repaired which would be $2K+, then that didn't work and said we basically needed a new engine and it would be $5K. After 2 months, with no car and a growing repair bill, we decided to go to another mechanic since we basically couldn't afford a new engine. The 2nd mechanic told us that it was the timing belt which was never replaced by Intown and the cam shafts were put in backwards which is why that didn't work. Didn't need a new engine since the car is still running. Paid Brian over $1K+ for work that wasn't done correctly just so that we could tow our car out of there. Intown Autocare - I think you are dishonest and highly recommend people to take their business elsewhere. read more
