This store deals with second hand and antiquarian books so don't expect to find Jordan's latest biography here (Thank the gods!). This small store packs a lot of stock into it's space, so browsing is a must. Outside the store there are boxes of books at 4 for £1, so very good for those that devour books quickly or are looking for some holiday/commuting reads. Inside there are older and more special books that would make ideal gifts, and to add to that the store also has greetings cards in the shapes of books and wrapping paper printed with bookcases full of books on. The proprietor of this store is very nice and friendly, and even better, knows about books. Unlike high street stores he has actually read books and this makes it a joy to visit even more.

The shop is split into two with a coriador between them at the rear of the shop. The music shop sells everything from sheet music, blu-ray films and CDs ranging from rock to jazz. It's the kind of place where you can buy a strap for your guitar or a metronome. The staff are very helpful and I had a good chat about the album they were playing while I was in there. The bookshop is just as eclectic. They have both new and secondhand stuff, ranging from classics in book club editions through to a good science fiction section at the back. I enjoyed browsing very much and I am going to have to get back there.

W H Smiths have improved their offering dramatically in recent years…read more Somehow though it has not been translated to this store in terms of customer service. They have 8 checkouts. There are never more than 2 open, despite a queue of 10 people, whilst unhappy looking store staff rearrange books and magazines on the shelves, doing anything to not look at the queue and - god forbid - actually have to serve some customers. It's not a large shop and it's absolutely stuffed with books. But it's a great place to browse and while away a bit of time. while the mix of books is quite eclectic they do seem to speciliase in Sci-fi and Fantasy novels - which is handy as that's the genre I often read. They will of course buy books from you for sale onwards in the shop. I've quite often taken a cardboard box of books down there when I'm having a clear out to see if they are interested in any of them. Beware that they are quite choosy, anything too worn, too big (!) or too obscure will be rejected and anything they are interested in won't net you much in the way of cash. I usually exit again with many of the books unsold and then go straight to the nearest charity shop and dump the rest there. The staff are friendly and helpful and this is a great shop to have in Hitchin town.

It has been a long time since Stevenage has had a comic book store, but finally that has been…read morerectified. This store is quite large and spacious with comic books organised by type (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc) across the wall shelving and in the boxes of back issues too. They have a pretty good stock of manga and action figures too and also sell t-shirts. The guys that work at the store are cool and know what they are talking about.
