I called over a week in advance to explain that I live on the other side of the country and needed an MOT and service done near Roche St Austell so I could be with my mum who was in palliative care.
I dropped my car off then later that day was told over the phone my car failed on a few things. The receptionist Tina then asked "do you have someone that can do the work?". I again explained no and that I am not local. Apparently mechanics were on holiday and they couldn't do the repairs for 2 weeks. When I commented that typically the garage I booked the MOT with would do the repairs it failed on, Tina then kept saying I was booked in for a service?? When challenged it was a service and MOT she kept stating the previous point! Why was I charged £50 for the MOT (the service didn't end up being done) if this was the case?
When we arrived to pick up the car I explained to the owner that I was unhappy with the situation I was left in with them being unable to do the repairs. And that now I would need to find another garage in August that could do the repairs within 10 days - otherwise I would have to repay for my MOT. I said the lack of mechanics should have been communicated at the time of booking especially as I am not local. There was no responsibility for this taken from the owner or receptionist.
