How cool is that! Staying in a recording studio! :-) Of course I hung out in the bar to see if…read morethere were any Slebs but although there were some people discussing deals and stuff, I didn't recognise anyone :-( The room was very modern and funky, with a wall mounted flat screen telly, a pod shower with all the jets, and the biggest bean bag in the WORLD! The carpet in the hallway was so thick I sank a good 3 inches when I stepped out of the lift (which was an industrial one you had to manually open and shut). There is only one floor with a few rooms on, so you feel kind of exclusive. There is parking but you have to OK it with them I went on the train last time and walked here. There are a few bars and restaurants nearby, but I ate in the hotel which was pretty good! There is no breakfast though so go around the corner, there are cafes aplenty! I am off again in September. Phot is from the web site, I hope that's ok :-)

I stumbled upon this new chique bar last week and although flyers say it's for over 30s I felt very…read morecomfortable being an early twenty-something as most of the people there seemed to be my age. After speaking to the very friendly manager he explained that under 30s are more than welcome, but he will be running a strict door policy for the dress code. The bar is located in what was "Studio 2" of the world famous Parr Street Studios, where the likes of Coldplay, Take That, Barry Manilow, Spice Girls, Echo & The Bunnymen and Diana Ross have all recorded. The main room serves as a large seating/standing area with space for live bands to perform. Two of the old drum rooms still retain many of their original features, one filled with bean bags, and the other made into a nouveau gothic style dinning room. The bar service area is in what was the recording engineers suite with a large window looking out into main room. The bar prices are very reasonable (pint of premium lager and small glass of Merlot came to just over £6) for a chique bar like this. The staff are very friendly and with the promise of live music every Saturday I can see this venue quickly becoming "the place" to go and have a chilled sociable drink. As well as it's role as a bar, Studio2 also serve breakfast from 7am to noon. The menu (http://www.parrstreet.co.uk/STUDIO2/Downloads/Studio%202%20Breakfast.pdf ) has every ranging from a full "organic" English, to omelette. I haven't tried the food here, but with the catering side of the business being run by the brains behind the food at Alma De Cuba I have every faith that it'll be of their high standard at yet again very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend, if I could give 6 stars I would!

During the past year or so, a few friends and I sort of got together and formed a band (not much…read moregood, obviously) and after having several practices in their back room, much to their neighbours disdain, we decided to venture out to a real practicing space with real amplification and sounds (hopefully). Situated in an old warehouse, the studios is quite difficult to find if you don't know the area, hidden down a back street near Moorfields Station (even the front door isn't easy to see). The interior is pretty basic but the practice rooms themselves have everything you need and anything extra can be rented on request. The toilets leave little to be desired, but what's rock 'n' roll about a hygienic bathroom? You're there to make sweet, sweet music and for that purpose, Crash ticks all the boxes. The sound in some rooms is worse than others but to be honest, with the noise we were making, it was usually hard to tell if it was the room's fault or our own. Each practice room also contains a couch for relaxing in between rockin' out and there are refreshments available downstairs in the 'reception' area, which is basically a room with a pool table and a desk. The staff there are friendly and helpful, offering good advice or help whenever needed. They also offer recording services at a reasonable price and storage spaces, perfect for all those drummers out there to store their sets at least.

Crash may not be the most glamorous venue, but it offers fantastic, well-priced and well-located…read morerehearsal space for up-and-coming bands in Liverpool. Located just off Dale Street, Crash has a number of rehearsal rooms housed in a large old building (maybe an old warehouse). Most of the rooms are spacious and well-equipped with PA systems and sound-proofing. There is also a communal bar area where musicians gather and chew the fat over gigs and ideas. Oh, and if you forget any strings etc you can pick them up at a reasonable price from reception. I have used Crash a number of times and have always been struck by how friendly the staff and patrons are. There's a really great music scene in the city and you really feel part of it here. My only slight criticism is that the could be better parking facilities. Other than that it has a lot of character and does all the basic things well. However, make sure you book ahead as it gets quite busy!
