Interested in looking back into family history or becoming better informed on industrial history in Wirral? If yes then you can do so free of charge and get to look at the original documents. The service at Cheshire Lines Building on Canning Street, not far from Hamilton Square Station, is pretty new after relocation of the service and a state of the art facility. If you are thinking of going, I'd recommend phoning in advance which allows you to book a microfilm reader or computer. I went for the microfilm reader. Once you arrive, you have to ring a buzzer and then the archive staff come and get you. Take identification - otherwise they will send you on your way home again!
There isn't parking available but if you do need somewhere to park your car you should find something on Bridge Street, Woodside and Elgin Way. I had a fairly fruitful visit and would recommend it. read more
