If you want a haircut, you go to the barber. If you want to get your hair styled, you go to a hair salon. Common sense right? I've been going to a barber for the last 15 years and realized they were only trained to cut hair and maybe simple styles like a taper or a the chili bowl. I am currently sporting the mo-hawk and my barber is not trained to do this type of style so I remember a referral from a friend that just got a job at this salon and 5 years later, I have no complaints! =) When checking this place out, I recommend Lisa for any haircut, styling, or just a simple touch up on the sides. Appointment with stylist Jacquelyn - I showed up for my appointment right on time and she did a quick consultation (which I appreciated) but when she was done she told me she needed to take a smoke break and left. I felt it was incredibly unprofessional to take time out of my appointment to smoke... She should have done that before I showed up. Over all, the cut and color was nice. I feel like she did a really good job on my hair, so despite the unprofessional behavior, I had planned to return - I even tipped her an extra $15 (she only takes cash and all I had was a $100 bill so I just told her to keep the change). The NEXT experience with her is what ruined it for me. I asked Jacquelyn to order some quality color shampoo for me. She said she would get back to me when it came in. A week or so later I was preparing for my 4th anniversary date with my man, so the day before I sent Jacquelyn a text asking if she would be available to do a blow out and style before my hot date - she said yes and she told me she could fit me in at 5pm - perfect, my date was at 7 and this gave me plenty of time to have my hair done and to come back home to get dressed. The next day I pulled into the VuJaDe parking lot at 4:55pm, parked, and pulled out my phone to return a few texts before going in. I had a text from Jacquelyn from 4:53: "I'm running late, could you come at 5:30?" Okay, so 7 minutes before my appointment and you think I haven't left my house yet? Not a big deal, I had a few emails I needed to read and respond to, so I replied "yeah, no problem". I sat in my truck in the parking lot wasting time when I got ANOTHER text from Jacquelyn: "would 6 be too late?" Well, our dinner reservations were for 7, I replied: "yeah, probably. It's okay, we can do it next time." I drove off and got a couple miles down the road when I saw that Jacquelyn sent a text saying "No, just head up here now, I'll be quick." I pulled into a parking lot and replied: "are you sure?" And she responded "yes". SO I turn around and head back to the salon. Just about the time I got back on the roadway my phone started ringing - it was Jacquelyn. "Hey girl, listen, I have a REALLY bad headache, I was planning on going home and getting some aspirin then coming back up here. Why don't you just come to the salon and pick up your shampoo and then do your hair yourself?" I really think she only told me to come back to the salon because she must have known she lost me as a customer, and she didn't want to get stuck with $50 worth of product. When I got back to VuJaDe I paid for the shampoo (I needed it anyway) and left vowing I would NEVER return!!!! This was a huge let-down. I thought I had found a good stylist (my stylist of the last 6 years moved and I was nervous about finding a replacement) and now I have to keep looking. read more

My experience here doesn't even deserve 1 star, to be completely honest. I went in for a cut so that I could donate my hair. I specifically asked for 8 inches to be cut off, no more than 9 and showed Mimi a picture of what length I had my hair cut to previously when I had donated it. She braided my hair and cut off a 12-inch braid, which unbraided is probably about 13 inches or more and 5 inches more than I asked for. As soon as she cut it, I could tell she cut it WAY too short. When I told her that it was too short and that I couldn't even put it in a ponytail like I am required to wear for work, she made excuses saying that she wanted to make sure I had enough to donate and that my hair grows quickly and it would be fine in a couple months, and also that I could probably get away with 2 ponytails or just wear it down, which is not what I wanted because I don't want to have to wake up early to style my hair every morning. All in all, I highly regret coming to this salon and absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND, especially do not go to Mimi!! Will not be coming back, ever. read more

With the reviews I found, I was thrilled when the "famous" Lisa answered the phone when I called to determine whether a haircut was a possibility for me today. She was friendly, punctual, and efficient. The time flew by. She listened to what I wanted done with my hair and, I must say, it has never looked better. Lisa Chavez totally saved me! I had gotten a really terrible bad color in Denver the day before driving through Texas to visit my son. It was bugging me so much that I started looking on yelp for something on my route. I called her and told her my dilemma and she fit me into her schedule right when I would get to Amarillo.
