We heard about this place through a friend and decided to try it out. It's been open for about three weeks now and replaced the Schmock Jewish restaurant that had been there for years. I would rate this place no more than 2.5 stars but the dessert put it to three for me ;-) The concept is good and it's supposed to be food from Laos. I am no expert on Laos cuisine but, it did not look or taste like it for me. It's more of an Asian fusion cuisine delivered poorly. I would give the food here a maximum of 2 stars. The restaurant itself is well done and there is a fairly nice bar area at front and, tables with seating in the back, split into two rooms. It's noisy when busy and it was really hard to hear people. I really had to listen very carefully to understand the conversation at our table. It's dimly lit and with dark colours on the walls. The menu is small. All up about 13-14 items including dessert. When you have such a small menu I expect perfection of flavours and taste as it's easily manageable and limited dishes to work with. There are about 8 small plates to share, 3 main dishes and 2 desserts. Besides the Creme brûlée I did not enjoy the rest of the food at all. The presentation is pretty ordinary and if it wasn't darker in the room I would have been quite disappointed. The wine list is ok with a selection of whites, rose and reds. A fair few Austrian wines on the menu. I did see a few cocktails come out so I assume they have a selection of cocktails. We shared some small plates and most of it tasted pretty ordinary and lacking flavour and intensity. The main course I had was the entrecôte and it had the same sauce / flavours as the pork belly small plate. It was also a small piece of meat for €24. The fish of the day small plate was exactly the same as the main course fish, pretty poor ic you ask me. The coconut rice was undercooked and for me al dente rice is a total no no. I also tried the veg curry and it had so much turmeric or galangal that totally overpowered the dish and my wife stopped eating it part way through. The prices are high because you need to order a few dishes in order to feel satisfied, at least I did. It was an expensive evening for ordinary food. Service was good and friendly and our waiter was quite attentive. None of this makes up for ordinary food. Basically like some places in town it's a place to be seen but such places also fade out quickly. I would certainly not part with my money here again. It's another one of those places that is there to be seen in, rather than a good dining experience. I don't think I would go back here again. read more

I was very excited to try this place. Unfortunately it has left me very unimpressed. Food was not only pretty bland, sometimes dry or downright mediocre...the portion sizes were a joke. You pay big money for really small, unshearable tapa plates. Not only the food but the wine was also very very expensive. Value for money is nothing you can expect here. Design and vibe felt off...trying to achieve a luxury look providing mediocre hip food at outrageous prices just does not work. Service was horrible. The waiters knew nothing of the food they were serving or what the best way to order for a group would be. Wine and waters were forgotten, lacking friendliness despite holding a reservation for a group. Stay clear. read more

I love Laotian food and was excited to try this Laotian fusion restaurant. First off the drinks were to die for. The server recommended a few of their special drinks and we followed his recommendation. The drinks came with dragonfruit chips and really beautiful garnishes. It's was very artsy and candy for the eyes. The decor is chic and it had all these rice baskets on a wall which was interesting. We ordered a bunch of the tapas style appetizers. The portions were small but tasty. My favorites were the pork belly, steak tartare, chicken larb and papaya salad. I would definitely come back. read more

I was very excited to taste Laos food for the very first time and heard great things about the guys that opened Vu Tang Kitchen. Location: awesome. Interior is hip enough - though bit too condensed for my taste (not a lot of space between the tables, if you want to use the restroom during dinner, you might spill your drink or get mixed in someone else's food). Food: interesting. Definitely try it! The menu is not big, but makes it easier to choose and also one would think they make the best of every dish. Sadly, I found the sticky rice, which is most typical in the Lao cuisine, a tad too sticky. I am not sure it that's the way it's supposed to be, or if we did not eat it fast enough, but after about 10 min the whole rice bowl became one brick. Also lots of coriander/lemongrass inside of their dishes. If it's not one of your favourites, you won't really enjoy the food. Drinks: thumbs up for the cocktails. Interesting and quite tasty. Huge wine list, but for some of the names in there I found it quite pricy. General idea: if you've never been, definitely try it. If you've tried Lao cuisine before, go try it here and let me know. Good cuisine, which didn't fully blow me away with memories of Laos (perhaps a little more of a touch in the decor would have triggered that?), but certainly delivered the base flavours, with hints of creative touches across the entire selection of typical (small) dishes. Loved the sticky rice and the beef tartar. Service was good and friendly, with extra staff bussing tables (very unusual in Germany/Europe). We had a table of 10; we were accommodated despite the large group. Large groups receive the full menu at a set price instead of individually ordering a la carte. In the end somehow something was missing though for the last star. Nonetheless I'd go again and can recommend. read more

Fun trendy place! Atmosphere is awesome, drinks are delicious and beautiful! Food is a little hit or miss- the steak and the eggplant were both not great, but really enjoyed the papaya salad and pork belly. Will def check it out again! read more

Where to start?!? We made reservations at this place in person about 10 days in advance. By arrival we were barely greeted and then showed to our table. But we said they are busy so let's give em a chance... The service was chaotic and scarcely there. We waited 15-20 min after we were seated to get a menu. Once we got a menu we decided to emediatly order some waters, which was forgotten. So was the bottle of wine we ordered and one of our parties meals! We ended up getting the wine and one of two bottle of water (which we didn't only ask for once)however never got one of the meals. Of course they didn't forget to charge us for it though! The food wasn't anything to rave about, the service was horrible, the prices for a tapa style menu way too high but I do like how they decorated the place! read more
