Despite all the reviews that led us here, I was NOT a fan. Manam is a little hole in the wall, very tiny, with crushed seating, There were a few tables outside, but it was very cold. The waitress was also the cashier, hostess, and maybe even the kitchen help, though it's pretty much a one person kitchen. I didn't ask about water, assuming it would come out with the meal. Then I noticed that not a single person had anything to drink. Our food came out and she leaned in/squeezed in to shove our food onto the table, and left without even glancing over. That was it for service. So forget about asking for water! The food was OK, but I thought the portions were very small. I also had some wontons that were dry and sub par. And it's cash only. This place was right across from the Hilton City Center...we went basic, ordered PKM and Som Tom with a little sticky rice (like trying cheese dip at Mexican restaurants, if this is bad...it's all bad), and it was delicious. The papaya salad was a bit sweeter than I like, but it was fresh and satisfying. We will go again tonight, try something different. I've never been treated so poorly by a restaurant I was eating a tofu noodle dish outside when the worker came out: Worker: "You can't drink your own water." Me: "It's super spicy. Can I have some tap water?" Worker: "No. You have to buy a bottle." So I finished and got up to leave and the cook came outside and grabbed my shoulder: "You vegetarians think you're so special!" (I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not so special). Obviously I can't recommend this place. The serving sizes were small and prices high, too. Lots of Styrofoam being used. read more

Very tiny hole in the wall where it's cheek by jowl. Our two dishes were disappointing. Duck noodle soup had old tough duck and no green vegetables. The pad see ewe used really thick noodles, overpowered the few slices of beef (also tough) and few florets of broccoli. A big miss. read more

Their dishes are made of the freshest ingredients, my favorite was the red curry mmmm...the handmade noodles in the pad see ew were also great. They also do a good job of packaging up their takeout if you prefer not to wait for a seat to free up. Beware though, it raised the bar for me on what good Thai food is and now I fear all my old favorites restaurants will never taste the same. read more

Fantastic!! Tiny place near Rosenheimer Platz. Real atmosphere of street food in Asia. only seats about 12 people with an open kitchen with all the sizzles, sounds and great smells that you get when eating in Thailand. Their Laab (a VERY hot Laotian dish) is not just purely hot, but very flavourful. The lady taking the orders doesn't smile much, but this is not because she is unfriendly, but becas=use she got braces and is embarrassed.... simple to read menu with every dish costing either EUR 7,- or 8,- depending on meat or seafood. portions are not huge, but you don't leave hungry. My favourite Thai inTown! As said in the previous reviews it's very tiny, warm, smelly (food odours of course) and the staff could be more friendly (I kinda understand as it's so crowded and probably stressful, no time to deal with pickiness)...but the food is just as in Thailand. And it tastes like a spicy paradise. The spiciness is on the right level, like it would be over there. So if you are not used to it...it's gonna burnnn! But again, it's delicious and they use the right ingredients, not like most of the Thai Restaurants in Munich. Just believe the spiciness indicator on the menu: one pepper is already very hot! My advice is to arrive early, if you go there for lunch, or late, because it's just that good! Expect a whole lot of people wanting to go there. You can take the pad thai with pork or chicken if you are afraid of spices. It's one of the best I ever had. There is also the Khao man gai, which is chicken on top of garlic boiled rice and an awesome ginger chilli sauce that you pour on top; served on the side with a celery soup. For the spicy bit : I really like the dish with the pine apple though, number 12 on the menu. Enjoy! read more

Yes! The food was delicious, we had the #14 Khao Pad and #15 Pad Sie Oiw. The sauces can be spicy and the little red pepper creep up on you and can make you tear up. The place is tiny, luckily we caught it during a slow time. Food came out really quickly and was cooked within eye sight. Wish they served beer and had wifi, but I wont ding them for that. Price is affordable. Nice little joint, would make for amazing hangover food or late night after a few Pilseners, too bad they close at 9. read more

The Thai lady who owned the place was incredibly arrogant, and whenever I asked for less spicy food for my friends, she would bark back a "No! Cannot cook not spicy! Not tasty!" There are at least 3 other storefronts or signs for this restaurant so make sure you pick the right one! Here's a hint: it's the most unlikely of all the options. Once we finally found it, we ordered some fried meatball appetizers with a delicious sweet chili dipping sauce. Hubby and I both ordered Pad Thai. You are served a generous portion. The noodles were good but dish had zero flavor. As noted by others extremely greasy. Bottom of container full of oil so not edible for last half. The dish tasted like rice noodles mixed with crispy chicken. NO seasoning. 1 tiny piece of cilantro and about a 1/4 inch of green onion. No sauce or chilies. Would not recommend. 3.5 stars. All the hype on Yelp and from friends got me checking out Manam. Regardless of eating in or taking out, one has to order on line. As expected on a Saturday prime-time evening, the line was long. If the timing is right, one might just get lucky to score a table inside this TINY (yes, this needs to be emphasized) eatery. I'm all for supporting local businesses. The ladies cooking in the even tinier kitchen were working hard and cooking fast, so I didn't mind the 30-minute wait although I have to say it was slightly chaotic. Where should I wait? Should I pay now or later? Will the lady see me? Needless to say, the ladies did not have time to do much with the customers other than take the order, take the money, and give the order when ready. Unfortunately, I cannot give them that much kudos. I ordered a vegetarian Massamun curry and a papaya salad with crayfish to go. The lady at the counter packed my order so carelessly that the heavier rice and the salad crushed the packaging of the curry, ending up with half of my curry sauce in the plastic bag when I arrived home by bike. But the biggest disappointment was the papaya salad. I expected little pieces of crayfish, but I didn't expect little pieces of crayfish still in their shells. The pieces were raw, and there were hardly any meat inside these pieces. Basically, I couldn't eat any of the pieces. The papaya salad (be warned, it is SPICY! I drank 3 glasses of water and some milk to get through this dish) was also disappointing and overly fishy, and I normally like my fish sauce. On a good note, the Massamun curry was tasty and set at the right spice level for me. Lessons learned or tips to give: Go at a less busy time, so you get some more care with the preparation of your order. Avoid the papaya salad (especially the one with the crayfish) unless you love fish sauce so much that you can swim in it. read more

Manam.....proof you should NEVER judge a book by it's cover. I honeslty never really noticed it because it is tucked conveniently next to one of those cheesy casino's that seem to ooze sketchiness. However, ignore that! Just go in, grab a menu, and get ready for your taste buds to be blown. Everything on the menu sounded great, so I basically just closed my eyes and pointed to something. Lucky for me it landed on item number 10, aka the Pad Nor Mai (and I chose chicken to go with it). If you like spicy, then you'll be happy to know that this dish comes with chili peppers already chopped in it. However, if you want your eyes to bleed, you can always add even more peppers :) This dish was perfect....I literally wouldn't change a thing. The guy I was with had the number 4 , aka the Gaeng Massaman with tofu and man was that spicy too! Talk about flavor explosion in my mouth! I am so happy he took me here. I literally have 0 desire to go to one of the nicer looking Thai restaurants in Munich, because this hole-in-the-wall works just fine for me :) Seriously, get your tail in here right now!!! p.s-I only dock a star because, like Mark. Absolutely tiny hole in the wall with just a handful of people working here, but they crank out some of the best Thai food I've had (have tried a couple of other places in Munich while visiting family and this one is still the best). Service is gruff but quick and the food is just simply good. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and, given the fact that I was in Germany, did not expect it to be as spicy as it was. It was fantastic! Everyone else enjoyed their dishes, as well, but I was mesmerized by mine. The space is absolutely small and cramped, but it's okay because it means that you can smell every wonderful dish being cooked essentially just a few feet away from you. This is another place we sometimes go to for lunch at work. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's tiny and a lot of their business is take out. It's really good though and reasonably fast (they somehow squeeze three cooks into their tiny kitchen). Some dishes are unusually hot, like the #22. Last time I was there I played it very safe and had the Pad Thai (#16) with chicken, and it was a good Pad Thai. Another colleague went for sticky rice with beef, not sure what the number is, and he was very happy with his choice (but bring a pair of latex gloves as you will get oily as you try to maneouver the sticky rice out of the plastic bag it was cooked in). Prices are reasonable, my Pad Thai was 7 € and other dishes 7 - 9 €. Not the strongest four stars ever but I'll stick with it, especially considering the price. Worth a visit (S-Bahn to Rosenheimer Platz, East exit, south side of the street) if you're in the general area. read more

Best place to enjoy Thai style curries and noodles in Munich. Hoy, spicy and tasty... And fast.

Food was good but entirely overshadowed by the terrible atmosphere. The entire restaurant is the size of a small bedroom and even smaller when omitting the kitchen (which emits incredible heat, noise, and smoke). The service was awful and aggressively angry despite the very necessary need to compensate for the size and temperature of the room. I was pushed and shoved several times during my meal by both the waitress and other guests (though the guests at least apologized). By the end of the meal I felt like I had spent 18€ to eat in hell, as the temperature continued to rise, the walls closed in, and the waitress increasingly treated me like I had murdered her entire family. I hear it's the best Thai in town but don't consider for a sit-down meal and buckle up if you're going for takeout because the staff was equally as terrible to those poor people as well. Deutsch: Das Essen war gut, aber vollständig von der schrecklichen Atmosphäre überschattet. Das gesamte Restaurant ist die Größe von einem kleinen Schlafzimmer und sogar kleiner, wenn das Weglassen der Küche (die unglaubliche Hitze, Lärm und Rauch abgibt).
