    Pho
    Rita K.

My fiance and I have an ongoing inside joke about the best worst pho we've had outside of the Bay Area. This has got to be the best worst pho we've had! Not in a bad way... we've traveled to Europe a few times and would succumb to eating pho after a week or so (my taste buds crave Asian 24/7). We've had really bad bowl of pho where it barely tastes like the delicious bowl of pho we would get at home in the bay. This has got to be the best tasting "pho" we've had that doesn't taste like really good pho... not sure if that makes sense. The broth is a little underwhelming and is missing some key ingredients that makes it tasty. The broth tastes a bit salty and light. As others have mentioned, this bowl of pho would not do well in California/Bay Area; this bowl of pho is more 1-2 star worthy, but since this is in Europe, 3 stars it is. The noodles are not the thin rice noodles that I love, but slightly wider. The meat is limited; only chunks of beef instead of the variety of meats you can find in a combo bowl of pho. Small portion for about 10 euros... I was still hungry after demolishing the entire bowl. We drenched the pho with tons of veggies/sauces to add flavor. Their chilis in fish sauce were super spicy; be warned! Anyways, not bad. If you're desperately craving pho as someone who's used to eating legit pho, this place will suffice. Service was friendly and we had no problems finding seating on a weekday evening.

A good value place for people who don't ask too much of a restaurant. Too many table too close to each other meant that I managed to hit elbow of the lady on the next table next to me. Waiters can hardly reach the table while serving and taking empty plates away. No back ground music, but that is OK, cause the place was very noisy due to the number of people close to each other. No WiFi. The toilets could be cleaner and are dated. But nevertheless, this is a very popular place. I was there on a Friday night and all tables were reserved. The reason must be the good food and (for Munich) fair proces. The food is soo good actually, that one of the people on my table commented 'I need to bring my mother here!'. The menu has plenty of choice and the cocktails they make are excellent according to the people on my table.

Looks great, rau is appropriate which is a nice surprise... flavor is lacking.

To satisfy my curiosity as well as my craving, I travelled 40 minutes to DuDu because of the superb reviews. Pho looked legit due to the cloudy broth with tiny tiny pieces of floaters (don't need clear broth for pho to be delicious, common misconception). They had the right herbs which was a nice surprise. Too bad the flavor wasn't quite right; if this was in California, this pho would have earned one star but I added 2 stars as a handicap being in Germany and possibly flavored for German taste. The lemonade was fine as was the greasy egg rolls. Service was fine and the place was clean. I really want to give 2 stars, esp. with a glass of water costing me 1.5 euros--trying not to be a hater though. Owner responded in quickly which was nice.

Fabulous Vietnamese for a reasonable price. We stumbled into this place after the poor experience down the road and as it happened they had a table for four free. It seems like a small family restaurant and the service is polite, prompt and friendly. They also have English menus which was a plus as one of our group did not understand German. I had the fresh wrapped spring roll with beef for starter and they were fabulous. Nice spicy beef wrapped in fresh vegetables and wrapped in a nice rice paper roll with a yummy dipping sauce....sher lecker. For main I had the Pho Cari - extra Scharf :-) and it was delicious sauce with coconut milk, lots of vegetable and chicken and nice noodles. I also tried some of the other dishes and loved them all. Even the dessert of banana tapioca pudding & banana fritters was great. This was the first time I have been to a Vietnamese restaurant in Munich. Having been to hundreds of Vietnamese restaurants across many other countries in the past I would rate this place pretty high for quality, flavour and value for money. Will definitely return here again and again :-))

Woohoo for Dudu! (That was too easy...) We stumbled here by chance on a Saturday evening. The place, brightly lit with its brightly colored walls (much needed for me given the often grayish weather), seemed inviting to me. It was quite empty at that time, so service was naturally fast but also friendly. Happy hour occurs every day from 5 to 7:15 PM with all drinks, including non-alcoholic ones, pricing somewhere around 2 to 4 EUR. Feeling good about Dudu! I'm a sucker for green papaya salad (Goi Dudu), so I had to get it when I see it. The salad was tangy and refreshing, just the way I like it. We tried the Bun La Lot (grilled ground beef wrapped in betel leaves along with vermicelli and fish sauce) and the Mi Xao Vit (crispy duck with sauteed veg along with hoisin sauce). Both dishes were nicely cooked and flavorful. To me, the price is not too cheap but also not too expensive. Most of the main dishes cost between 11-13 EUR. Perhaps I should just accept that Viet food in Munich will always cost more than what I expect. Regardless, I will be back for more Dudu! (I just like writing this word!)

The chicken and shrimp in coconut curry soup was very good the won-tons were crispy and tasty but the only thing that I didn't enjoy too much was the duck. But I will definitely give it another try to see, I know it is worthy of recommending.

I was really craving Vietnamese tonight…read more After stopping by another place, which I found out was closed for vacation/holiday for a whole month (really?), I stumbled upon Huong Viet. No English menu. Not even a full Vietnamese menu. Only a German menu even with German names for the dishes. Towards the back, there was one page entitled something along the lines of "Vietnamese Specialties". This is the only page I saw names of dishes I actually recognized in Vietnamese! Not sure what all those other pages are supposed to be then... I ordered the Pho Dac Biet (Pho Special). This was definitely not the PDB I am used to back home. This is where I struggled between 3 or 4 stars. Some of the differences I liked. Others not so much. But overall, I decided to give it 4 stars. I do see myself coming back to try other things eventually. But for now, my overly detailed breakdown of their Pho Dac Biet. Noodles: I'm going to take a stab that the couple running this place is of northern Vietnamese decent. I only say that because the noodles were the wider ribbon style. Thinner squared cross section noodles are generally a Southern Vietnamese thing. Broth: Had a slight tamarind flavor to it. Similar to the Vietnamese sour soup (Canh Chua). Definitely was not expecting that in my Pho, but it was a nice surprise. Meat: Chicken, beef, and a couple of prawns. No tripe, tendon, beef balls, or brisket. But again, this is probably a regional Vietnamese thing (I'm happy to get input from someone who's more familiar with northern Vietnamese dishes). The beef was tough and not the best quality. The chicken was fine. But the prawns were probably the highlight of the meal. Vegetables: Onions, cilantro, and ginger from what I could tell. That last one threw me off as I'm not the biggest fan of ginger. I usually pick out the ginger from my food. Unless it's pickled ginger. And this was not. But alas, I ate it anyway. The onions were diced instead of sliced. But that's just my preference. No side of basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño, and lemon. But again, north vs south is my guess. Condiments: There was no Nuoc Mam (fish sauce) on the table. Not having this is definitely no-no in my book. Except for when I'm so hungry that I've nearly finished my food by the time I've realized I should have asked for it. Next time! There was soy sauce. But seriously, who would put that in their pho? Fortune cookie: -1 for even having fortune cookies at a Vietnamese restaurant. +1 for the fortune being in German, English, French, and some other language I didn't recognize. Who'd have thought I'd be learning German from a cookie!

Really delicious though simple food. The service is also great. The ambience is simple and…read morenon-pretentious, but really, as long as it's delicious - who cares? Will gladly come again!

I asked for the fried bananas to come out first because I was hungry. It came out last, after everything else. The portion size for the large Pho Hanoi was disappointing given the steep price. It tasted okay. The accompanying herbs and bean sprouts were seriously lacking for my preference. At around 18:15, I went to pay for an online order which my husband had put through because the only option for online orders is to pay at the restaurant. The waitress offered to give me his takeaway order after processing the payment, but I told her I was still eating and would get it on my way out. I was still finishing up my meal when another waiter rudely plopped the bag onto my table and proclaimed that it was mine. The reason I had not wanted the takeaway order immediately was that my husband had ordered the fried bananas with ice cream and I was concerned that the ice cream would melt. Apparently that was not an issue because when you do takeaway the fried bananas with ice cream is ONLY two sad pieces of fried bananas. Was there a discount for the lack of ice cream, fruit, or wafer you get with the dish if you dine-in? Nope, they charged us the full price while failing to deliver half the dish! The menu item literally has the word ice cream in it so I felt really cheated. We got two pieces of half a banana, so basically one banana for €6.90! At least be honest about it and give me a heads up. Another fail was that they did not provide any fish sauce or sauce period for his lemongrass chicken vermicelli dish or his green mango salad. What is Vietnamese food without fish sauce?!? The lemongrass chicken was also very dry. If you choose to order takeaway, please learn from my oversight and be sure to check your order in the restaurant. Personally, I will never come back. If this is the best pho in Munich (like one of the reviewers said) then I would not suggest getting pho in Munich.

She looked at their offerings online and sent me a screenshot of what she wanted. Then she changed her mind. Before I left the hotel to get her takeout, she changed her mind again. She finally settled for their Thai Lemon Chicken. Of course I would forget my umbrella and have to endure some drizzling round trip. When I entered the restaurant, there were two parties dining in. I walked up to the cashier and waited till he greeted me. It took a few moments but I then showed him a photo of what Mink wanted. He said do you want 22, 23 or 26? They all come with chicken. I didn't know what to say as I figured he works there and could tell me which one was the Thai Lemon Chicken. After reading the descriptions, I ordered 22 to go. It seemed like the closest option to the photo caption. He didn't ask how I was going to pay so I just assumed it was cash only. They were Chinese so it's possible they were cash only. Typical Chinese take out style customer service. I handed them 20 Euro for the 14.50 Euro dish. The kitchen didn't take long to get my order out. They packed it nicely and the utensils were to the right of the cashier. Mink said the food was better than she expected for Munich but it was just ok. I had some and I concur. It's still a good option if you're craving Asian food in the area.
