From WWII to 1992 Caribou was a thriving community neighboring Loring Air Force Base. The base was home to a large contingent of B-52 bombers and their supporting units. Literally, almost 12,000 Airman and their families called Caribou home. The economy was robust, the outlook optimistic, with a pride in their Air Force Base and jobs abundant. It was one of Reader's Digest best little cities in the US. In 1992, it all changed with the order to close Loring Air Force Base. In no time all but one car dealership closed, houses deserted & foreclosed, and a loss of a significant piece of the population. Most businesses failed. Somehow CICC froze in time and made it through. With that in mind CICC is a spotless friendly hotel. It boasts a large pool and hot tub. The restaurant is among the best in town and offers a breakfast sandwich or oatmeal for free or $3.00 off any breakfast item. The breakfast items are hot fresh and delicious. The rooms are large with king size beds-albeit the beds are on the hard side. There is a small fridge and a smaller new flat screen TV. Sadly, there is no Microwave. Our non-smoking room backed up to the indoor dome area with the pool-with the HVAC drawing air from the dome area. We could always smell the chlorine, though it was not overwhelming. I do recommend a room backing up to the outside. The room was very quiet. Also, the AC unit ran 24 hours a day. The auto function did not work or was disabled. Our stay was nice and the best that can be expected in Caribou. There are multiple conference rooms available and a large area next to the pool which must be for weddings. One weird thing is music is piped into the pool area 24 hours a day. Mostly early eighties genre with one hit wonders. There is a first rate gymnasium free to all. Anyhow, we love the people and like the hotel. It is the only decent game in town. Also, if you like the 1992 motif this is the place for you. 3-Stars and worth the stay.

Our waitress was knowledgeable and give us some good ideas. Water was good and so the selections were mostly typical. As you know, I don't drink they had a large variety of IPAs beers, other alcoholic beverages. They also have mocktails. He did an order of the cheese curds. They were very good at dipping sauce tasted great. I ordered a salad, which was OK and pork filled a bao buns which were very tasty and barbecue juice sauce is not too spicy not too sugary. The whole sauce was very good on the bottom. Just wish it was a bit more. Make sure you have that napkins cause it does leak juice. My Son had the fish and chips. The fish was really well done they say crunchy a good portion of fish. Fries were good too.

It took 45 min for our appetizer to come out, after our server had come over twice to tell us it would be out soon. Then she didn't even bring it out, someone from the kitchen did, the same for our entrees. My steak tips were too tough to chew. My husband had the sampler and his steak was too tough to chew as well, and he said so was the chicken. He said the fish was the best thing on the plate. For me, the smashed potatoes were the best thing on the plate. Oh and the carrots were cold. I have to say, the presentation was beautiful, though. Our server never came back until it was time to give us the check. Never asked how our food was mid meal and never asked if we wanted another drink. All she did was she took our order, falsely told us twice that our appetizer would "be out soon", then we never saw her again until she brought the check. We're not ones to complain to a server so we just paid our bill and left. Our dissatisfaction was reflected in our tip, and we're usually fairly generous tippers. We're not local, but we visit the area a few times a year because my husband has family in the area. We won't go back the next time we're up there.
