They even created a special phone number to call to report potholes in need of repair. Even with all that, the same areas sit for months on end without attention. On one site near the east bound 10 freeway onramp, I saw another car run over a pothole and got a flat tire! For such a rich city, how can it be that there is so much waste and that our tax dollars are not going to fund the projects that matter to its citizens? This is not the stance upon which the mayor ran. I'd like to see some real leadership for the things that make a difference day-in and day-out for Angelinos. Fixing potholes is just one of these things.

I wrote to Los Angeles City Councilman Rosendahl August 2010, because I was unable to resolve a…read moreproblem with LADWP (The Municipal Water and Power Company) and the Garbage Department after numerous attempts, and they were giving me the major brush off, and run-around. Councilman Rosendahl had his assistant Jay investigate the matter immediately, he stayed on top of it, and within a few weeks it was successfully resolved. Its now been 6 months with no re-occurrence of the problem. The Councilman deserves 5 stars for his immediate response, staying on top of the matter until resolution, and willingness to battle with LADWP and the Garbage Department. The Councilman did not tell me to write this and I do not know him other than through this matter. He deserves a very positive review for his exemplary performance. Thank you. --- Detail Summary of the problem resolved: LADWP is the government agency that not only is in charge of Water and Power, but also does the Billing function for the Garbage Department. The Garbage people do not do their own billing. We have always had private garbage collection with Waste Management, but all of a sudden, the Garbage Dept. started billing us for garbage pick-up using LADWP's billing system. You would think this could be resolved with 1 phone call--that the Garbage people would know where their trucks pick up garbage but no one over there wanted to exercise discretion, and credit and cancel the charge. Even when I emailed over a copy of the Waste Management bill to the garbage people, they ignored it. I made numerous calls to the garbage people to try to resolve this without any result. Lack of willingness to exercise discretion was one of the problems the city garbage people had, but worse, the garbage representative told me that the billing function is detached from the pickup function--he told me that they do not have an address list or any idea exactly where they pick up garbage to know if they are picking up at my place or not! Worse, the garbage representative told me that I am one of many Los Angeles residence caught in this billing twilight zone and the representative's hand are tied by department "policy" and he can't stop the billing. And much worse, because the garbage people use LADWP to do their billing and collections, they can't stop the billing either while they investigate the matter. It was a complete dead end for me and apparently 100's and maybe thousands of Los Angeles City residents. I am a lawyer and thought that I would have to file a lawsuit against the City to get this matter resolved. City Councilman Rosendahl went to bat and successfully resolved the matter by examining the billing, consulting with me by telephone, and directly contacting the involved agencies. He stayed on top of it until the head of the Garbage Department called and agreed to credit my account and forthwith stop future billings.

After some calls back & forth, it turned out that nothing could be done about the problem. Fast forward to recent times. I reached out to Councilman Rosendahl on LinkedIn to become a connection. Not only did he respond back & became a connection, but he gave me several referrals to reach out to about possible positions. These were all people that the Councilman is personally acquainted with. I did get to meet with the HR person at one of the nearby property management companies. Unfortunately, they didn't have any current positions, but this person told me that she would keep me in mind for any future openings. I truly can not say enough about Councilman Rosendahl's responsiveness & willingness to help. I saw him at a community event today & personally thanked him for his help. He responded back by saying to keep in touch to let him know how things are going. I feel very fortunate to know that I can reach out to Councilman Rosendahl when a problem or situation arises & know that I'll get a prompt response. Keep up the great work, Councilman Rosendahl, as the community that you serve greatly appreciate you.

Thankfully, there is a holding pen at the sheriff's station. Let's just say it was a bit of an ordeal dealing with certain personalities but I made sure the dog was safe and the owner did claim it. Trust me, the story is long and involved. But I'm taking my daddy's advice: never pick a fight with the post office or the police.
