On August 7th I went to the social security office in Norwalk on imperial. I did not have an appointment. I had some important questions about my mom. She passed away a couple of months ago. Mrs. Aguilar was very helpful, kind and graceful . She answered all my questions, so I did not need to make an appointment I understood employees there get very busy and many people to guide and help. I came here to say last Wednesday with no appointment and waited 45 minutes to be seen. Which I didn't think was that bad honestly. I got there around 10am. The security guy was very chatty and friendly to one lady that was there too but real short with everyone else. Including myself and I'm a kill em with kindness kinda person but it didn't work on him. I needed the restroom and asked him if they call my number to please just let the person know I'll be right back. (It always happens they call your name when you step away.) He said I can't promise so hurry. I thought, I'm not asking for favors just to let them know I didn't leave but ran to the restroom. Well, of course they called my number but I ran back in the nick of time. However, the lady who was going to assist me was not in a very good mood. Her attitude was one of a stereotypical DMV worker who is unhappy with life. Anyway, she couldn't help me and told me I'll need to come back. Now let's talk about today's visit. I made an appointment this time at it happened to be for 10am. The process is pretty awesome. All the way up to checking in and follow up messaging. The gentleman who helped me was AMAZING too!!! I wish I got his name to mention. Oddly though, I still waited 30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen but was in and out once seen in 5 minutes. Definitely try the online version of submitting your applications but I tried the old way of calling and staying on hold for over one e hour. However, the waiting was definitely a small inconvenience because I was able to speak to someone about ten business days. The person who helped with my case required some paperwork to be submitted to confirm that I was eligible for the benefit of Medicare. Multiple persons arrived with similar appointments and each seemed to be helped by quite polite and patient persons. In the end we all hope that our government civil servants would be better than the examples of bad service we often fear or hear about. There were several office windows serving us, and the person helping me was very pleasant. Parking is spacious but beware: some are designated for employees only. read more

strictly by appt now.. was going to drop in without an appt as i've done before but glad i called.. spoke to Ms Peña(?) was told this began Jan 2025 & that if you drop in without an appt you won't be seen, only given an appt for another day so save yourself the extra trip! Ms. Marino is a shining star! She went out of her way to make sure I was able to get my child's SS card, as I've been having difficulty with USPS and not getting any important mail. The card had to be requested three times before we received it. We had to change the mailing address in order to make it happen. Thanks Ms. Marino and Ms. Perez who assisted me that day. Make an appointment it cuts the wait time down so much. Even if it's hard to call in to book. Those 30 minutes save you hours! read more

We went here because they sent us a bill, we go so we can ask how do we send they payment because they moved to this location. They refused to help or explain while getting mad at us for trying to ask something, the guy at the east lobby with the horse teeth has zero patience and gets mad for asking him a question he answered. read more

I had the most pleasant experience at the Social Security office yesterday. Coronavirus watch out. I didn't touch a damn thing. A lovely security man pushed all the buttons for me until I had to put in my Social Security number in and then the pressure was on. Not to worry I'm rolling around with a full bottle of hand sanitizer your girls prepared. There was nobody in line .I was dealt with immediately . The lady in window 9 was just the sweetest thing ever. In the background I could hear man talking about how we need to get out of town because of the coronavirus and that it affects older men more than women . I need to leave !! The security guard is very unprofessional. He rudely told an elderly lady to move out of the way I'm assuming because it's a fire hazard to walk around her? LOL poor lady is in one of those walkers that you can turn around and sit on. She moved and he said something else and she told him to shut up. He stopped walking away and approached her, "What did you say?" Then he said "You shut up." She replies with, "What did YOU SAY?" He said, "You told me to shut up so I told you to shut up." This is my third time here since the end of March and man... his rudeness is increasing Oh yeah! When I was here last week the lady that helped me was very rude, catty, not nice, and was super slow to do something that another lady can do in 3 minutes. She didn't even give me my license back. I was so preoccupied with my baby that I didn't realize she never gave it back. When she saw that my 3 month old had a passport she gave attitude like "wow he has a passport?" Yes! B!!! We travel and what! So that's why I'm here again a third time. Waiting with everyone else for my f license. read more

Holiday miracle ! Due to Covid it's really hard to get things done or contact with state offices like social security and edd. I've called and been to multiple offices trying to get answers and help. This office was the only one that would answer my call and not send me to a busy line to automatic drop call. I was grateful I did not get sent to a automated message saying they can't answer my call. Thank you so much to mrs. As my other-half came here from another country, one of the items on the long list of things we needed to do, was apply for a social security number. After going to the Long Beach location and seeing 20+ people standing in line, outside in the rain, we decided to run some other errands and come back later. After leaving the LA County Registrar-Recorder office in Norwalk, I figured there had to be an SS office nearby and I checked my trusty Yelp app. Sure enough, there was one located in the building next door, SCHWEET! There is no exterior signage or anything else to indicate the SS office is located in this generic office building. It's located on the first floor to the right of the security desk. Parking is in the private (free) lot outside, though it sounds like there's a 2 hour time limit. Our timing could not have been any better! We walk in and there were only a few people waiting in the small-ish room. We get a number from the automated computer system and literally in 3 minutes, we were called to the window, WOW! Later the security guard said there's normally a line of people along the 50 food wall outside the door! At first Mr. Jackson was very robotic and all business. But after saying "Good morning" to him, he relaxed, smiled and said "sometimes we forget about pleasantries". He was now more personable and this made a more pleasant experience. OVERALL: We couldn't have asked for a smoother, more pleasant experience at any social security office. On this rainy Friday morning, we walked in, got everything done and were back out the door in 22 minutes flat! This has got to be a new social security office world record! LOL read more

At this location if you don't have an appointment you don't get to pick a number and sit down. You have to stand in a line that can get very long quickly. On Wednesdays they close at 12 PM so you need to get there earlier, and the line starts earlier. At the Paramount location you walk him pick a number and have a seat. The Norwalk location is closer to me, so I use that location. read more

This Social Security office is located in the building next to the LA County Registrar Recorder. Like all SSA's the wait is often long and frustrating, even with an appointment you could be waiting for quite awhile. I came here to get a replacement SS card for my son. According to the website you need a birth certificate but when you go in this isn't the case. They need school record with birthdate on it. Wtf? A birth certificate is only good for infants. So after waiting 2 1/2 hours I was turned away. I was livid to say the least. The nice gentleman told me since 9/11 their process has changed, my complaint was that it should have been updated on the website and should honor my request (no such luck). Here's a tip from the nice worker...if you don't have an appointment, go in as close to closing time so you don't have to wait for hours. When I returned the following day I went in 30 minutes before closing and was in and out in 20 minutes. Parking right in front has a 2 hour limit and when you are there longer you may lose your place in line, they mark your tires and do give tickets. So park in the back rows for no time limit. read more

System sucks. We have been here before with an appt and we did not get in and out in 7 or 10 minutes. That's just stupid. Last time we were here for easily an hour with an appt and the Mr. lopez guy gave us all sorts of incorrect information so we are back today because the soonest appt is beginning of July-almost two months away. We have been here for about an hour and 15 minutes and we are not even close to being called with all these walk-ins. They need more offices, more educated workers who know what they are talking about and more assistance for the 50 million people on social security that they serve. read more

Okay, so I read all the reviews on here and I almost considered going to another office. I had to go in and get a replacement card, and I didn't make an appointment. Was in and out in less than 45 minutes. If you are in there for another reason it's better to have an appointment, but if it's a replacement no need to worry about the waiting time. read more

It's a government location... What can you say? I'll try my best. Busy... CHECK! But organized. I went as soon as the opened at 9:00. There was already a line when I got there, and I found out that the line was to get a number from the machine and to make sure that the waiting room didn't get too full. A security guard kept watch at the door and acted as a bouncer. He checks bags, too. The waiting area was surprisingly clean. They have posters hanging on the walls about what you need for getting a new, a replacement, a corrected, etc. social security card. They have two televisions that show the numbers that have been called, as well as lots of information about social security. I spent about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes waiting in line and waiting for my number to be called. I came prepared, and I presented all the documents needed - thanks, social security website! I got a receipt for my new card, which takes about a week to get mailed, and I was on my way! The gentleman that helped me was nice, too, and didn't remind me of a government employee. He was helpful and made jokes. read more

I arrived at the Norwalk Social Security office at 8:40am and was told to go through the lobby, outside to the right and take my position in line. There were about 20-25 people ahead of me. At this point I thought I would be in and out much sooner than I expected, and I was. The incident that makes me write this review happened when the line was inside the building where I was now the next person to be allowed to enter the small waiting area. I was the next person to be allowed to enter the waiting area when a man asked me "what was the purpose of my visit today?" I responded, "I'm here to resubmit documentation regarding settlement of my work comp case again." (this info had already been submitted 6 times.) The man looked directly at me and said "I need to advise you to watch your language when you're inside the waiting area." I looked at him but didn't reply. The man in the line next to me made a comment "What are you talking about? This man just answered your question." I entered the waiting area and while inside a man in a wheelchair rolled towards the far side of the room (about 15 people inside) and the security guard quickly went to him and asked "where are you going?" the man said he was reading the benefit information posters on the wall. The guard instructed the man to stay where he was told because he would be blocking the aisle. It felt like we were being shuffled through an inmate reception center with arrogant guards that made you know that they were in charge. This kind of disrespect is not necessary. read more

I applied for social security online and received a confirmation letter. Even though the letter said it enclosed an application summary and an envelope, it didn't have any enclosures. The letter gave Norwalk Social Security and a tel no. for contact and the agent name who is handling the case. It also says call the tel no. to make an appointment to visit the office as I need to submit original documents. Called the tel no. and verified the documents I need. I then asked for an appointment the agent said the responsible agent was out to lunch and will call me back. She was overall nice and easy to deal with. But the responsible agent never called. Called again today and talked to another agent who was very rude. She said she stationed in New Mexico and didn't know the responsible agent and could not make appointment for me. I said I waited 40 minutes to talk to her and just follow the steps shown on SS letter to call to make an appointment. She then accused me that I GOT OUT OF THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED THIS MORNING!! I couldn't believe what I heard. People like her should never deal with public. I hope the SS Administration will take note of this. We the people have paid tens of thousands of social security taxes and do not deserve this kind of treatments and sloppy work. read more
