I went here for a colour change, had dark brown hair and left with virtually black roots and fried orange ends. my inspo pics were brunette auburn. I was in and out the salon in 3 hours, baring in mind I have alot of hair so for hair to be lifted/bleach/ coloured cut and blowed in that time is a red flag. my hair is absolutely ruined. I told them I was just getting my hair back to normal after covid hair loss and now my hair is snapping and falling out when I wash and brush it. I've emailed to explain and show how damaged my hair is and ive been completely ignored. I went to another salon to see if they could do a colour correction and they won't touch my hair as My hair is still too 'gummy' to try and fix. Delighted by my free £10 voucher,available to all newcomers, I booked an appointment with Voodou for a wash cut and blow. I was welcomed by the friendly receptionist and seen to quickly. Prior to washing I was asked if I wanted conditioner, which I did not realising until I was presented with a chart of prices that a splodge of the stuff cost a fiver. Oh well I got £10 of... My hair was washed (and conditioned) by a very nice though rather rough young girl who, as she stood scrub boarding my hair behind me I imagined with a head scarf and a cigarette stuck in her teeth. I was offered a cup of tea and and my desired cut was ascertained before the show began: one bossy hairdresser and her stooge. I did feel awfully sorry for the young girl (aforementioned washer woman) as she scurried around and begged for tasks clearly desperate to impress. I must say, I felt rather rushed, and at times almost an inconvenience as watches were continually checked and time updates called. I wasn't overly pleased with the blow dry as my hair is long and thick and needs time spending on it, which was not given, but the cut was good and the salon is clearly very popular and the girls under pressure so it is understandable though not excusable. As a student I would have ultimately paid less than I did with the voucher as £10 is deducted from a full price cut not a junior stylist cut, which was not explained. Voodou can give you a pretty cutting edge cut if you know what to ask for and my stylist was welcoming and chatty (much like The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...lollipop anyone?) but I most certainly am not a Voodou person. I wanted a nice new 'do for the festive season and thought, hmm, spend like £60 for a cut and colour? Treat yourself, why not, you deserve it! (My inner devil had spoken) and so off I went and had a one to one with my stylist who opted that we play it safe, pushed getting two colours after pricing me for one and dazed and confused (apparently it would look so much better blah blah) after a bit of hesitation I watched my new hair cut take shape. It was just a basic trim and they highlighted my hair the same colour as my natural colour and then with the blonde I had originally anticipated. At the till, I left with my hair looking similar and my bank balance somewhat depleted. £110 Merry Christmas! Pathetic fallacy being what it is as I left the shop with my 'do (worth its weight in gold apparently) it was pouring down, but I refused to give them anymore money for an umbrella from the handy stack by the door! If you have the cash to splash then Voodou is the place, just make sure you ask for something drastic so that your money is well spent! read more

I've always wanted to go red and was a little apprehensive about such a drastic change, Jamie however put my mind at rest and showed me some examples of blondes that rock the ginger locks. Going on the 1/2 price thursday meant that i didn't pay an arm and a leg for the colour and cut - not as cheap as a box colour job but the colour has lasted a lot longer and i got a free glass of wine to celebrate my new hair so there's always a silver lining! Friendly stylists that actually listened to what you want, advice and don't just give you the same thing they gave their last client. 9 weeks on and i've gone back to have my roots touched up and colour enhanced even more, so it's a very merry christmas! read more

There's 2 Voodou salons on Bold St, one for men one for women. My boyfriend used to go to the mens one, and was always pleased with it, although it is very pricey especially if you just want a 'normal' mens haircut (ie nothing fancy or styled too much!) I've been to the womens one a few times, usually it's pretty good. I'd recommend it more for students as you get a good discount, it's pricey otherwise. The loud dance music can be annoying, it's not a place for a relaxing hair cut! read more

Voodou is the ultimate student hairdressing salon as it offers quality haircuts at reasonable (-ish) prices. Much to my amusement, I've seen many a friend come out with zig-zag lines down the side of their head. However, I've never come out with anything more than a haircut that I'm extremely happy with. The staff are really good fun and always up for a chat that doesn't always revolve about whether you're going out that night! There's a cool vibe around the whole place and you can tell the directors take a real pride in their work. There are two different salons for men and women and both are extremely popular with students and trendy young professionals. It's advisable to book ahead rather than walk in off the street. This is apparently even more important for women! They also sell a good selection of hair products such as wax, gel and shampoo. My only criticism is that they play rubbish dance music in the background - perhaps because it's a stone's throw from the site of the old Cream nightclub? read more

I go to voodoo to have my hair done i have for years so does my daughter, i think the secret is to find a stylist you like the keep her/him, it's not the salon that is disappointing its the stylist doing your hair and you can get that anywhere. The salons in bold street are nice but the one in Breck road Anfield is awful and a bit grotty. I think this should reflect on the prices i had to go there once because my stylist was based there for a few days and the sinks were dirty were you have your hair washed and there was rubbish exposed in the sink area it was not pleasant. read more

I have had two very bad experiences at Voodou. One was in late 2015, and the other right at the end of 2016. 1. The first bad experience was when I went in and asked for the grey-blonde kind of look for my hair. I already had very light blonde hair, and other hairdressers had managed it before without any trouble. By the end of the colour, the girl who had done my hair was so delighted and over the top with it that she was taking photos. I was worried that it looked extremely dark grey, and perhaps even blue. I thought that the yellow light in there was hiding how blue it looked, but the girl insisted that if anything the light in there would make it look more blue than it really was. Although I wasn't stupid enough to believe that, it was a bit late to be kicking up a fuss now, and bless her, she was so excited about how wonderful it looked. I did wonder if she was trying to just guilt me into not saying anything, but chalked that up to me just overthinking it because I was a bit upset with how my hair looked. Also I'd been in there for about four hours, I was hungry, my head was throbbing, and I was just desperate to get out of there. By the time I got outside and caught my reflection it was totally confirmed. My hair was blue. I'd gone from long thick lovely ash blonde hair to looking like a teenager with washed out awful dark blue to grey hair. I was asked at work about my blue hair and asked to please not come in looking so unprofessional. It seems ridiculous that I'd ever trust them again, but a friend who's a big fan of Voodou convinced me to give another hairdresser a try there. I did and she managed to give me nice hair that wasn't ridiculous in any way for a while. However, it was really tough to get an appointment with her, and since I'm not a millionaire, I couldn't afford to keep going back every six weeks to spend another few hundred quid correcting mistakes other hairdressers had made there. I work for the NHS, not in the playboy mansion, so throwing hundreds of quid down the drain for a chance at nice hair is not a wise move. ------------------- 2. I went back in after a while of thinking it not worth my money, because I needed my hair dying ready for my friend's wedding. That's when I had my second really bad experience at Voodou, despite having spent a lot of money there in the past. I think I dodged a bit of a bullet. The rude and unprofessional hairdresser was looking me up and down in a judgemental way from the start, and being very abrupt with me. At first I put this down to maybe it just not being her day. We all have bad days, right? She then falsely accused me of lying about having had my hair coloured, instead of highlighted. She said that no hairdresser could have created such bad choppy roots if it was done with block colour. I had last had my hair block coloured at Voodou. So, she was either unable to understand hair colour, as someone working in a 'specialist colour' salon, or was trashing her colleagues' skills, or gosh, it really seemed like both. I was astounded by how unnecessary her rudeness toward me was and her general attitude. I genuinely wondered for a minute if they were doing some kind of hidden camera show. I can't really put it across properly here, because it was largely in her body language and her tone of voice as she was throwing accusations. She checked on the computer to prove me a liar, and found that yes, as I'd clearly said, I'd been having my colour done there (with mixed results) for a while. She then denied that she's accused me of anything, or that she'd said anything that she'd literally just said. By that point I'd lost all trust that she would have the skill, or the willingness to do a good job on my hair, so I got out of there and have never been back. read more

Overall, the Voodou Colour Centre was a good experience and I am very pleased with my lovely new hairstyle. I recommend you discuss the price of your haircut beforehand so you aren't stood in disbelief when you are told the price of your new do. Even with student discount, the price is incredibly high. I paid just over £100 for a cut & blow dry, full head of highlights and toner. Although I know highlights tend to be quite expensive, I've never paid this much before. The basins were a little uncomfortable, these could definitely be improved for a more relaxing and therapeutic experience (something you'd expect when getting your hair washed in such an expensive salon). High prices and uncomfortable basins aside, I was impressed with my cut and colour. Everything was done professionally and the staff were very friendly. My hairdresser, Liz, was particularly helpful in discussing the colour options for my hair. Would I go there again? Possibly. But I'd try looking for somewhere cheaper first. read more

Had an absolutely horrendous experience there last summer, decided to treat myself as it was half price for new clients. I wanted a purple and silver balayage and had my consultation where I was told that they could do everything I wanted. Cut to the appointment itself and they had 'run out' of silver hair dye and so had to just add toner after toner to my hair, which did not result in the original silver desired effect. And as for the 'balayage' well, I don't think you could describe it as that, it was uneven and on a slant around my head, and instead of the triangle formation that balayage is meant to take, it was just chunks of varying thickness throughout. The purple colour ended up washing out after about 3 weeks and left it looking dreadful, so much I made an appointment with another hair salon to have as much of it cut off as possible, and even the hairdresser commented that it was the worst attempt at a balayage she'd ever seen. It was my first hair colouring experience and the the only saving grace was the half price offer because I certainly wouldn't have been happy had I have paid the 160£ that it should have been, even the 80£ I paid was extortionate considering it looked like it had been done by someone who never touched hair before. read more

Undoubtedly the worst haircut i have ever had. I went to the one on Bold Street and took in pictures to show how I wanted my hair. Not only did I get a totally different style to the one I requested but it was also 2 inches longer on one side. I'm not sure how anyone who is meant to be a professional hairdresser can turn out a haircut this bad. To top it all off the reception staff were increadably rude when I booked the appointment. I have been going to Voodou for years and after trying a few stylists, have found one I liked and kept. I think she's really good at cutting my hair the way I want it done, and she really just gives me what I ask for, no ifs or buts, and no botched up job at the end of the day. The only thing is that she used to charge £29 for a cut but after being promoted to senior stylist, she charges nearly £40 which is really quite dear but I think that's to be expected of any good or well-known salon, and Voodou is no different from any of the others I've used before like Toni & Guy. read more

Voodou Colour specialists (Bold Street) horrible, overpriced, dirty place. Stinky dirty toilets, very poor service, arrogant staff. They using cheap poor quality colours (wella) light brown highlights they do (bleach + tint) which is kind of old school method. After few washes my hair will be yellow :-( had my haircut from Jordan Ss very unprofessional ... :-( I paid £240 ... next month I have to go somewhere else for correction of haircut and colour too. Usually I do my hair in Paris or Prague for much more better service and much cheaper .... never ever again, I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more
