The Vons on 13th street has improved since the remodel. Thank you to vons for doing these improvements, You can find anything you need with an above average quality on products that still maintain fair prices. The neighborhood looks for the best deals on food and store products, I do stress to the staff to be put a smile once in a while. the staff needs to do more than "hi are you finding everything ok" as i just walked and have yet pick one item. Keep up the pride and really pay attention to detail on customers and business will improve. Over i do feel you should shop at the VONS on 13th and Gaffey. . Good place to shop. read more

I avoid this location because of previous experiences and should have continued, but I just had to grab something fast for a potluck. While I was there I thought I could also pick up breakfast and coffee. I was wrong. When asking associates where stuff was they rolled their eyes and just pointed "over there". Can you describe the location? Can you walk the customer to the location? The Starbucks doesn't carry bagels because vons has bagels, but none of the vons bagels are vegan. According to the associate. I asked for alternatives and she said nothing was vegan at the bakery. The Starbucks was out of venti sizes, but didn't offer a different solution only, "we should have it in later today" ...well that doesn't help me right now. I brought my own bag and even though I did the bag boy was on auto pilot and was putting my stuff in a brown bag. He asked me if I want the watermelon tray in the bag. I said no because it wouldn't fit, they then corrected me "it'll fit on the side". I don't want the watermelon to leak, no keep it separate. So the bag boy puts the watermelon in the child seat, tilted so watermelon juice leaked on my work clothes and going over the ramp bumps the plastic broke. I didn't have time to go back in and complain but I wish I would have given all of them the middle finger for such a terrible experience. Never again. read more

This is my usual grocery store. They have a wide variety of foods and very reasonable prices. They lost one star because the check-out lines are also long (not enough workers) and another star because many of the workers smoke and then drop their cigarette butts on the ground (facing the store, they smoke on the right side along 12th St. and just drop their butts on the ground) - awful for the environment. read more

I can't stand this Vons, it's the same issues every time I come here so I rarely do. Vons on 25th is 100x better, I don't understand why this one is so terrible. My main issue, there's always a line, and not short ones, wrapped around the aisles. There's always maybe two cashiers open. Why do I go here... because it can be handy sometimes. I walked in to get a roll of quarters. I was greeted by an obnoxious loud noise emanating from the employees' mouths. This is now my local store so I'm in here a lot. I love the staff here, always great people. I am so disappointed as a customer and for the staff I like so much. This store is falling apart and though they bring in more revenue then the store up town they get ZERO renovations. THey have had numerous electrical fires in the last few years due to old and faulty machinery (fridge, freezers, deli island, etc). The store looks old and run down because it is. If they can't renovate the entire store then they should at least do some upkeep and change the floor format to make it more appealing and ease of shopping. They are always busy and always long lines but I know the times to come and get in and out. These employees and community deserve a nicer and safer store. read more

Overall a crap hole super market within an ok neighborhood. The groceries, meat, and produce are over priced. The line are always long, and there is always at least on transient or some kind of begger at the entrance. The bank inside the store got robbed a few months bank and I'm starting to wonder if the suspect was a regular at the store. So I Ordered Chicken On Tuesday for pick-up on Early Thursday 7:30am I was running early so I thought I will go and if I have to wait I will. Get their and there were 2 Ladies there working I said I'm here to pick up the 100pc of Chicken and continue to tell me that who every took order did not put time for pick-up time so They had not done my order Yes I was highly up set but this is where customer service comes in. Worst produce selection in Town (imo) Rarely do I find vegetables, fruits that are to my liking (aka fresh!) I get other items I need, bread, chips, snacks, canned stuff. The lines are always long, the parking is okay, but you have to pass through our homeless population or some shady folks to get in and sometimes while you're inside. Not afraid of them, as they haven't ever been violent, just at times loud and shouting at workers. I continue to come here, because it is the closest market to me. I know what to get and it seems to work out now. They have flu shots, pharmacy here and a Starbucks, which is good. Be prepared to wait in line. Worst Vons EVER! It doesn't matter what time of day you go, there will always be long lines all thru the aisles. I live 2 mins from this Vons, but would rather drive 10 mins farther to the Vons on 25th / Western. They're organized, hustle you out the check stand quickly. If lines start getting long, they open up check stands, but this Vons gives you an attitude, and feels you should wait 20 mins in long lines - Unacceptable!! The bakery department really came through for my dad's 90th birthday. They baked a chocolate on chocolate cake and texted me for the message. I only go to this location when I absolutely have NO other choice. I have to agree with the majority of the "yelpers" here . . . the lines are extremely LONG 99.9% of the time. Not during "high peak" hours, not during holidays, but ALL THE TIME!! I don't know if they are short staffed. I don't know if the registers are "down" (highly unlikely) but management needs to really take notice and make some improvements. It really sucks (for lack of a better word) to want to run in and out to get a few items and be stuck in a line for 15-20 minutes. I haven't had any problems with cashiers. Not the best grocery store, first off all I agree with other reviewers that the neighborhood is not of the finest. What makes it worse are the panhandlers and just off people in the parking lot, I had an old man trying to pick up on me from his car as I was putting my groceries in the trunk (def. would not come here at night alone!). Absolutely terrible customer service by the manager & the employees at this location! For no apparent reason the manager & two employees were extremely rude, & not helpful at all when being asked to help out a paying customer. I try not to hate on this Vons since it is the closest grocery store to me. I think the key to this store is 1) not coming during rush hour, 2) not going before closing time and 3) calling in advance if you really need something. I do wish this place had more of a selection since when I go to the Vons on 25th, I feel like there is so much more to pick from. I'm not really sure how they can improve their service since it is kind of in a funny area already. They can't control that bums lurk their store, it has been happening for years. I have to rate this vons because of the guy from the butcher department, Garry Nance. Im new to this area and also work in the culinary industry. I immediately noticed the sense of urgency and enthusiasm he had. Not only did he know where items outside of his department were. He let me know the best times to make requests for special cuts of meat and he is always trying to upsell me other product he feels will make a great addition to my meal. Bakery not stocked and unwilling to help. Needed cupcakes in a 24 pack and they would not package them up for me. Because of price difference between 10 and 24 pack I wanted a 24 pack. Decided on cookies then only to see that they didn't have anything but oatmeal raisin. When I asked them if they had others in the back they said they were working on them but not ready yet. For every topic of what a grocery store should not be, Vons in San Pedro captures the definition each time and in every category. From the unkempt parking lot to the general appearance of the exterior, all senses warn one of a train wreck in progress. Once inside the store, the collision of witless employees is married with the gall of over-priced products, and a staff who only knows their own name because someone stitched it inside of their uniforms prior to handing them the garments. By all tokens, this store is not only the worst, it deserves to be given a thorough bleach rinse in the gene pool of life. Something all of San Pedro could do well with. read more

Nice little shop close by to get in the shopping while in town. Had the honey do list in hand, and made my way to this market. Simple store in the community, cashiers were very friendly and inviting. Small for a grocery store but definitely had all the essentials while on vacation. Not the best of neighborhoods but nothing unusually glaring that would stop me from coming in. read more

Oh how I adore my local Vons!! Although it's always packed, they stay WELL stocked in all of my daughters favorite school snacks, juices and fruits. Looks sketchy at night, but the staff has always been friendly... I love it when they have 2 for 1 steaks. Look for the deals in the morning, and if that's when you go to work then try to go beforehand. What you see in the evening is what the early birds have not taken. I seriously do not know what anyone is talking about but this Vons is not bad at all. They always have what I want and all the people there are really nice there might be one or two but that are cranky or give attitude but I longer see them working there. The meat department most of the time has the chicken I like if not I always go to Henry's which that does not bother me at all. The bakery is really sweet I have a lot of nieces so ordering cakes from them they are really sweet and do exactly what I want even if they can't. I have been to other Vons and they are a lot bigger but I have never been here and go dang they do not have what I want. read more

I normally come here during the day to get all my groceries done. For a Vons its on a smaller side of space. Once the sun-sets hide your wallets! So many variety from homeless, teens, and loiterers begging for money outside the store and wondering around the parking lot. I am VERY disappointed at my local Vons store! We are a military family and sometimes don't want to drive to El Segundo to use the commissary but we will begin to now! Today we purchased two heads of cabbage for our Sunday dinner, no problems. All green no brown, fresh cabbage. Upon getting the cabbage home to cook my wife pealed off one leaf and what did she find... A SNAIL!!!!!! So I immediately drove back to the store where the sale associate refunded me as the manager of the store was already gone for the day. She also called the produce manager Leo. Leo came up and showed no remorse. Sir this is your section!!!!!! Take pride in it!!!!!! No apologies, no "sorry sir we will clean our produce section" nothing! I really like the people who work in this store! It has a friendly local feel and folks go out of their way to be helpful. The women in the bakery helped get me out of a bind the other day by selling me plain vanilla cupcakes for a rock bottom price so I could fill and frost them myself. What a time saver! I live close by so this is why I come to this vons out of convenience only. this place needs to go, over price on everything. the produce must be made of gold for what they want. I went yesterday and saw cucumbers for 1.29 each and they were almost uneatable, I couldn't believe they would do this, so unprofessional. Just left Von's to dispute a charge I thought was incorrect. I purchased a quart of milk. I read the small stickered price stating 10 for $10. I thought I carefully read it due to being incorrectly charged the last time I purchased milk at this Vons. The store manager quickly walked me to the dairy section. We both read the label. Yes 10 for $10, but it was for PT size (pint) which was printed above the CPU numbers with all the other crap the store uses for their tracking purposes. Okay. I was wrong. I admit. Then I asked where is the sign for the quart size milk. She said there is no sign, but customers must have moved the milk under the wrong price. Okay, may they did move 6 - 8 milks under the 10 for $10 sign. BUT YOU STILL DO NOT HAVE A SIGN FOR QUART MILK. Before I left the store I tried to address the store manager again to let her know Vons signs are misleading, and to find out if they're going to place a label under the quart size milk to avoid this problem in the future. As I walk up to her she gives me a polite smile as if she acknowledged my presence. Then out of no where she yells across the store to one of her clerks as if I was not standing there. I waited a few seconds so I can continue what I was saying. She turned her head and never looked back at me. She just ignored me. I politely walked out of the store. I figure...Guess she felt like she helped me enough. She did her job now I should leave. No...make sure customers are happy when they leave. Though it may have been my error and an over sight with their confusing signs. The pure disrespect of ignoring me; turned a decent visit into a visit where I really wanted to pull her short hair out for just yelling in my face. Prices here are higher than some other markets. But as they say you get what you pay for(most of the time). I've never really had a problem with the customer service as stated in some of the previous reviews. The wine selection is good and they usually have some sort of sale going on(i.e.- 30% off bottles priced $20 and up plus another 10% off if you buy 6 or more. That's 40% off! can't go wrong there!!). They sell stone beers(awesome!!!). Bread is baked fresh daily in the bakery as well as assorted cakes and cookies(try the chocolate chews) Deli section has Chicken strips& mojo potatos that are tasty(Slavko's is better but this is a decent substitute), whole rotisserie chickens(usually $5 on Fridays) that are juicy and tasty. Produce is normally fresh(although a bit pricey when not on sale). The meat department has nice quality meats w/ family pack deals. The lines can get long here depending on time and day of the week(what market isn't packed on the weekend). Place is always clean and well lit. So if you plan your trip accordingly, use your Vons card and stick to the aforementioned deals and sales you should be ok. I don't do all my grocery shopping here but I do come frequently. I HATE SHOPPING HERE! I try to avoid it as much as possible but because it's so close to my house, it's hard to avoid. Their service SUCKS! Their cashiers are either rude, having personal conversation across the store, or fooling around with the loud speaker. They usually have riduculously long lines because they only have a couple cashiers. And they are NOT WIC-friendly! They never have all the WIC items necessary to use a WIC check, and I noticed they never have baby formula. Come to find out, they keep the WIC formula separate from the rest of the formula, making it seem like they are out (and if you were to ask an employee, they tell you they are out!!) So FYI, if you getting WIC formula here, they hide it by the cigarettes in those locked cases in the front of the store. And I even noticed their prices are usually higher than the other grocery stores in the area. I'd much take the drive over to Albertson's on 25th or Ralph's on Western. read more
