According to their website, Vondelpark is open 24/7, so take advantage of those late sunsets! When we were there, they had a bunch of art sculptures all around. Interesting to look at, but a bunch of them weren't great. It's big (considering the size of Amsterdam), but not unmanageable. You could walk the entire thing in under 2 hours. read more

Despite a love for museums, eating, various site seeing, and meeting people....I love finding a park like this. While it doesn't really best Munich's English Gardens, it is still a pretty cool park! You walk in, "hustle and bustle" of the city all around you. Soon. As you walk deeper and deeper in, the city vanishes. You walk through, and see people, kids, dogs, and of course cyclists... A building here and there, but no city. Park has many little forks in the road, as well as little "lakes". Great for an adventure, particularly by randomly deciding left or right. Some limited thickly forested areas, and a couple small bridges. Overall, if you've already seen two museums, had some beer, and took a nightly stroll in electric red light, go here, a wonderful change of pace for a little bit. read more

After a long day of sightseeing and walking through museums and canals and more canals, I just wanted to take a quick nap before we had dinner. Vondelpark was the perfect place to escape the hubbub of the city. It's a lovely spot for locals and tourists alike. You will find many people just lounging around on a blanket, enjoying the afternoon sun, sipping a nice cold beverage, or having a picnic. Like anywhere else in Amsterdam, watch out for those bicyclists! They are viscous! :) Definitely recommended if you want to take a break from city life for a bit. read more

My husband and I walked in Vondelpark on a Saturday. It is a beautiful park, but I gave it four stars because it was so crowded. We decided to rent bikes and found a great place a couple blocks away. It was a lot if fun to ride bikes in the park and it's an easy way to see the whole park. We took a break and sat on a bench with a beautiful view. We also stopped at a restaurant in the park when it stared to rain and we had beer and pizza. read more

This is a giant park almost in center of Amsterdam. Vondel park is super green in summer. There are a lot of trees here. You can have a yoga, running, cycling, or just have a picnic under trees. We've noticed in this park green parrots in first time in Amsterdam and it was really unusual. One more interesting thing: people can have a sex officially and legally in this park. read more

Absolutely love cities with parks like Vondel. It's a massive escape from the city and in my opinion one of the better parks for a large capital city that I've visited. There are dedicated bike paths, walking paths, ponds, open grass areas, anything you'd want in a park. Plenty of benches to kick back and read a book or simply people watch. I spent a couple hours here just relaxing and reading a book enjoying my vacation, it's a very peaceful place. While there's lots of people here, everyone is rather polite in not making huge amounts of noise to disturb the peace. A five star park in my opinion and definitely recommend it as a stop if you visit Amsterdam. read more

A massive park that helps you completely escape the city! There are a few cafes here or you can just bring a snack, a book, and enjoy at a quiet spot. There is also a fountain area for children. Since the park is so big, renting a bike to ride through is very nice. read more

What's not to like about the Vondelpark. Maybe you're just cycling through it, to get where you need to be. Or you're chilling at one of the terraces in and around the park. But chances are you're picnicking, or boot camping, or jogging, or or, or... well, maybe you're just there for one of the many live performances at the open air theatre! This is a beautiful park with plenty of green for everyone to enjoy. It's great if you want to ride your bike or take a jog or enjoy with your family. I took my girls to the toddler's area to play. This is a great green space for walking, running, bike riding, walking the dog or just hanging out. It's a large expanse in the middle of the city with trails, walk paths, streams, bridges, a small restaurant, a statue for pigeons and a gazebo for musical concerts. There is another stage for more contemporary musical performances. On the far west side of the park is an area where dogs can run free. It's next to a kids area. It's a very popular park. There are many large open grassy areas great for having a picnic or to just lie in the grass. There are even parakeets nesting in the trees though I've yet to spot any. read more

It's one of the gems in Amsterdam and part of the annual Amsterdam marathon runs through it! Vondelpark here in Amsterdam is definitely a great escape from city life for those living and breathing Amsterdam. It was definitely a nice respite from all the traveling I had done up until this point of my recent trip to Europe in October 2014. Truth be told that if you told me that I would be in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, I would have laughed. Then again, my love for travel has grown into a lifestyle on its own and happened to be the catalyst for a healthy, active, and vibrant journey for sure. I enjoy the outdoors and running through any park system, so being in Vondelpark was wonderful. Even my hotel was close by, so I got in a nice short run in Vondelpark before check in. There's definitely a lot of green space here and plenty of people out and about. The park itself is beautifully maintained. Vondelpark here in Amsterdam is located in central Amsterdam, along Vondelstraat. As with any public city parks here in Amsterdam, in Europe, and in the United States, it's definitely free. Free admission is always a plus! I am not sure about the parking situation, as I took a walk from Amsterdam Centraal station to Vondelpark just to sightsee along the way. The park itself is large and sports many different activities for adults and children alike. A definite playground for those on the go, it's a great place for those who love being active. Running, cycling, walking or just someone who just want to be out there to enjoy life and nature. That's what it's all about nowadays, versus just being out there in the rat race of life. Taking the time to enjoy life is what parks is all about and Vondelpark here in central Amsterdam isn't any different at all. This makes it better for people watching and for those who enjoy smoking, it's seems like a good place for that. Het Vondelpark is massive. It's similar to New York's Central Park and San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for being the city's main park but of course, it has it's Amsterdam flair. I was fortunate enough to take a ride through it during Mike's Bike Tour. We rode and rode through paths which were endless. Het Vondelpark is so green and a garden oasis in the city. What fun this place must be during the Summer. There are free theater performances, concerts, street performers, barbecues, picnics, people lounging, children playing, etc. There is a lot going on at the park and depending on your thirst for activity you can engage in some or none at all. Hell, zone out on a blanket and puff one out if you wish. I was half terrified I'd be shitted on by birds and half ready to duck down but I didn't encounter one swooping parakeet or parrot. I did, however, see the following: 1. A wicked rope course 2. LARPing- Live Action Role Play swords, knight armor, and all! 3. A lost and found fence. Anyone lose a dolly or a sock? Pin lost items to the fence and maybe their owners will find them there. These are just some of the things that make Het Vondelpark special. Vondelpark is our most famous city park. I really like this park even though I do not come here that often, usually I just go for a walking distance park, like Sarphatipark. The Vondelpark is pretty big, walking from one side to the other takes a long time, which is good! Who doesn't love a nice big park in the middle of your city?? I sure do. Vondelpark has small paths to walk on, but also bigger asphalt ones for cycling. In the summer the park is super crowded, with people chilling, picnicking, reading and sporting everywhere. Very 'gezellig'. In the park are several spots with nice terraces where you can have a drink and eat something. There is also an open air theatre where is music and shows every weekend during the summer. Much fun. I love taking a stroll in this park with my Dutchman. It's one of the largest parks in Amsterdam. It's a great place to soak up the sun, go rollerblading, cycle through and bring out the picnic basket. Also an ideal place for children to enjoy being a kid on the playground. Vondelpark is located right in the middle of all the attractions and venues. Close to Leidseplein and Museumplein, which is surrounded by plenty of restaurants, cafes, popular museums and shops to browse through. This hotspot is loved by so many locals and tourist because of it's vast array of bright green spaces and ecosystem services that benefit all people. I have read that this is Amsterdam's version of Central Park in NYC. Well, it's not quite that big, but it is just as beautiful. Our hotel was just a 5 minute walk from the park so we were able to take a nice stroll and I also took an early morning run around the park. It's so peaceful here and residents really take advantage of the park as a place of recreation. Hundreds of people of all ages jogging, biking, training in a peaceful park like this just brings a smile to my face. Picturesque park/forest/nature spa/playground/kids park right in the center of the city. This is some of the best that Amsterdam has to offer. Want to get healthy? What to get a good coffee? Want to hook up with dudes? Want to take instagrams? Want to cross over to the South of the city? Want to BBQ in the summer? I love going to Vondelpark for walks. It's always new with great photo ops! There's good nature and a bit of nice landscaping. Inside, you can even discover a flower garden and plenty of fountains. There are a few cafés and a brunch spot, too. When the weather is nice, you can spot skaters trying to practice right alongside joggers and bikers. Kids get their own wading pool. Popular year round with joggers and cyclists, in the summer it gets insanely busy with picnics and all sorts of people - it's the back yard for a lot of amsterdammers who live in tiny apartments! So if the sun's out, it's going to be full. Best to avoid on certain busy days, like King's day, if you're not a fan of crowds. Looking for a quiet spot? Try walking/cycling all the way to the end of the park. Most people stay on the museumplein side so if you venture a bit further into the park you can still find yourself a nice quiet patch of grass, even on the busiest days. read more

On a sunny Sunday you'll think you died and went to heaven, not to be trite. The Sunday concert on June 2, 2013 was fun! The Dutch are rather sedate, at least they were that afternoon...not a whole lot of rockin' out. The music, mostly bluesy, was astoundingly good. The concert was over fairly early,7:00pm approx...and the sun would be out until 10:00pm so I just hung out and read my book and felt happy. I want to rate this park high, because I live 2 minutes from it and my dog loves it, but it can get quite crowded when the weather is nice, and when the weather isn't nice...well, that's not really what parks are for, right? In truth there are other, calmer, cleaner parks in Amsterdam. I prefer Vondelpark in the winter when I can take my dog to play with other dogs with less worry that he will pick up something that picnic goers left on the ground the night before. But when the weather turns nice, I tend to stay away. Tip for dog-owners: at the southern-most end is a large open field where all of the dog owners take their dogs to socialize.
