My intelligent and resourceful wife immediately located and booked a three hour bike tour for the next day. Excited to feel like a local for the day, I highly anticipated our adventure on wheels. Upon arriving at the tour meeting location of We Bike Amsterdam, we checked in with our tour guide and were instructed to obtain our bicycles from the shop. The friendly employee at the shop warmly greeted us and gestured to another employee to issue us both a bicycle. Although these bikes weren't unique, one thing that stood out to me was the distinctive bike lock. Unlike most bike locks that attach the bike to an object (e.g., gate, light pole), this bike lock was attached to the body of the bike and utilized a locking mechanism that prevented the wheels from moving when engaged. Overall, we enjoyed the bike tour that provided us with historical information pertaining to various monuments and locations within Amsterdam. Also, I highly recommend doing a guided bike tour vs. trying to navigate yourself. Having a tour guide added a level of confidence as we navigated the town and tried our hardest not to be a nuisance to the locals (apparently there are some folks that visit Amsterdam and are opposed to respecting & sharing the roads with the locals. Thank you We Bike Amsterdam!

My son LOVED the experience, and says this was one of his favorite parts of the trip, but my husband, who was on the tandem with him, said he had a harder time enjoying it since the bike is harder to navigate than a traditional bike, and he was concentrating mainly on my son. So hubby would have preferred the child seat on the back of his bike, but kiddo was thrilled to be pedaling and fully part of the experience. Our guide was fantastic. Would definitely recommend We Bike Amsterdam!

"no you can handle that with a third party, but we dont do refunds, generally..." what a stupid policy to offer a customer, even worse since this 20 something guy (dirty blond hair at the location under the highway), had a terrible attitude and no respect for an elderly couple. STAYED THERE AND MADE THEM WORK WITH THEIR THIRD PARTY PROCESSOR to get my money back. If that wasn't bad enough, three of the other employees thought it would be good to go after me with their excuses and random shots. Is there an adult anywhere around this business???

But looking back on our tour, there was nothing that could have been improved upon. We met at 10:15 in the morning in a common location that is easy to find but not too busy at that time of day on a weekday. Melissa was friendly and helpful. The tour started in Amsterdam through Vondel Park and then took us to a boathouse community, past the 1928 Olympic stadium, through the Dutch countryside to a working farm where we got to see cows and how cheese is made (with plenty of samples) and saw a typical functional Dutch windmill. The tour was adventurous without being taxing, and Melissa could not have been more knowledgeable of friendly and truly catered to all of our needs. She was so great I wish we could have her as our tour guide on all of our travels. JoyRide exceeded all of our expectations and I would not hesitate recommending them to any of our friends!

Unlike many bike tours that only guide you through Amsterdam, this tour takes you out to the countryside. Be sure to have one sweet and one savory! If you are looking for a great bike tour this is the place! She also has several other itineraries to choose from, included self guided GPD tours.

Picked up our bikes and bikes/walked to central station. We took a train and got off at a stop I believe was maybe 15 miles from Keukenhof garden. From the station, we began our bike tour. The bike ride was a beautiful experience where we were lucky to see some full bloomed fields of hyacinth, daffodils and tulips. You can smell the flowers as you ride thru. We got to the Keukenhof garden around 11:45am and had 1.5 hours in the garden. We bought our own lunch and there are picnic areas in the garden. I suggest bring something quick to eat. We made the mistake of having a full cheese platter and didn't get to see all the pavilions in the garden. Rebecca did not join us at the garden. She got us the garden entry tickets and we met her at the entrance at 1:15pm. After the garden, we biked another 8 miles or so to Leiden train station where we took the train back to Amsterdam central. We got back to Amsterdam by 4pm. (Reason for the time constraint is because bikes are not allowed on trains 7am-9am and after 4pm-6pm). Rebecca was very accommodating all thru the trip. She took the time to tell us about the history of tulips and windmills. We definitely recommend Rebecca whenever one is in Amsterdam.

I prefer to go on tours at the beginning of my trip as it helps with figuring out how to get around the city as well as discover attractions and sites I may not have been aware of. When I went to Europe in 2015, my friend recommended Sandeman's New Europe tours. The tour is free, but you're expected to tip the guide at the end of the tour, which is a win-win for everyone -- you don't need to pay more than you can afford, and the guide ends up making a decent amount. And because their wage depends on what people will pay them, the tour guides make an effort at being knowledgeable, entertaining, and personable. Sandeman's also offers paid tours to certain attractions. I've previously been on free Sandeman's tours in Berlin and Prague (as well as some paid tours), and the tour guides have been excellent, so I signed up for a free tour on our first full day in Amsterdam. Unfortunately it was raining at the beginning of the tour, but despite the weather, I had a good time and learned a lot about Amsterdam's history. The tour was two hours and started in Dam Square. The name of our tour guide was Pau, and she was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. If you like learning about the history of the cities you visit and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I highly recommend Sandeman's New Europe tours. After a bunch of research we decide on hungry birds, and it was a good decision. Our guide for the tour was Anne, as you proved to be a little ball of positive energy that was totally appreciated. She handled controversial issues well, and introduced us to many of the tastes of the market. We tasted everything from fresh Herring to smoke deal to sought after, cookies and we seem to have a back door, no line access to everything. If you'd like to stop reading now is a good point but know that we are big fans of Angry Birds We met at the designated location, introduced ourselves to the other people on the tour and then Anne showed up. She arrived bearing cookies, and my wife and I had actively sought out these cookies just the day before as we had seen them on Instagram. We waited for 15 minutes in line to buy our Van Stapele cookies and here she was showing up with a fresh batch to share with us to get the party started. It was a great start. We then moved onto multiple quality tastes. My wife, ever the brave soul, volunteered to taste the whole fresh Herring that was offered to her, served in the traditional fashion of the seasonal run of the fresh Herring. So it arrived on a plate with onions and pickles, and Leah was taught how to hold the Herring by picking it up from its tail, adding the onions and the pickles and then taking a bite. Mind you the fish had been deboned and cleaned, but it looked every bit of a fish without the head. I volunteered to try a couple of bites as well and enjoyed it. This was at the Volendammer Vishandel, and there was no doubt about the fish being fresh as the place was very busy I don't want to go on and on and ruin your trip to the food tour and so I'll stop here but the combination of the energetic tour guide and the unique stories told made it a very quick four hour tour that I would encourage my friends to take.
