The castle itself is historic with some insanely horrific history to it. I'm not going to say much more it's a great experience. The castle does all different types of events throughout the year, they're most popular is the haunt during Halloween season or throughout October. I went one year it was pretty amazing. My family has gone a few times and loved it. Look forward to this year!! Get your tickets quick because it sells out fast.

Came here for the haunted house event about a week ago and I'm not sure if I would come back again…read more Tickets were $35 each (purchased online) and you have to park and walk about 10-15 minutes to the castle or you can take the little van that drives you there which also takes the same amount of time. We took the van to the castle but they don't drop you off directly in front of the castle so you still have to walk down through security and then to the castle. Porte potty's are available right before security and once you walk up the hill to wait in line to enter the castle. There were a couple food trucks when we went, we were expecting a few based on what was said online but not sure if it depends on the time. We waited over an hour in line to enter the haunted house and if you do really believe in ghosts this place is pretty haunted. The event itself wasn't scary, the actors aren't able to touch you but there's obviously loud screaming and they may be a bit too close for comfort to get a reaction out of you. You do have to climb up and down quite a few stairs and then there's a second part lead outside and back in the castle (barely any lighting and it's a dirt road so you have to carefully walk). Many strobing lights as well so do avoid if you are triggered by that. The energy throughout the castle was not pleasant or welcoming, I was very excited for it to be over as the haunted house itself was not very good and I was mostly tired from all the walking. There's a merch truck outside at the end of the castle as well. We also decided to walk back instead of waiting for the shuttle but there absolutely no lighting and many ditches with uneven flooring so you have to be very careful. Overall experience was not my favorite and I wouldn't come back again.

Wandering around Sutter Creek killing some time before dinner, we stumble upon an open house / fund…read moreraiser at the general store. I have walked by it several times and peered in the windows, but it had never been open to go inside. Oh wow. Time had completely stopped here. Every item, every display was just left- dry gods to the right, hardware tools in the back, clothing, and groceries to the left. The General Store was started in 1896 by John Monteverde and son. The elder came to America in 1860 by the way of San Francisco. He came to Sutter Creek in 1861, like many others hoping to strike it rich during the gold rush. Later working as a stone mason. Married and had seven children. He died in 1918. His daughter Mary took over running the store. In October 1971, Mary placed a sign on the door saying the store would be closed a few days. The sign remained for 20 years. The city opened the store in 1992. Now as a museum the full shelves give a glimpse of the past. Even the old ledgers show the good and bad times of Sutter Creek patrons. You'll need to call in advance for a volunteer tour of the store and family history. Or get lucky like we did and catch a day that it was open

This is one of my favorite courses of all time. The course is beautiful year-round, especially late…read moreSpring and early Fall. The course is laid outdifferent from most courses. The front is a par 38 and the back is a par 32. Par 32, piece of cake, right? Wrong. The back is demanding and extremely narrow. You have to play smart, hit your shots, and leave your shots to green in the right place. The pro shop is rocked well enough and both Bob and Chris are excellent. The practice areas here are enough to get you ready for your round, or allow you to work on your game. The driving range is rough, but it works. There is an outside deli window that is open for most of the year that you can grab stuff at the turn at, and the bar has dogs and chips when the deli is closed. The restaurant has huge glass windows that let you lookout onto the course at dinner and the food has always been excellent. Everyone I have ever met here has been kind, personable, and easy-going. It's not a stuffy club. Come in the summer and watch kids cannon ball off the diving board. It's a great place to golf, a great place to just be, and it's definitely one of my happy places.

Prices range from moderate to high-end, and there are smaller gift items in the less-expensive range, so don't overlook this shop! Sherrie, a former museum docent was quite helpful and very informative. We bought a couple stamped vintage silver spoons for our herb garden and then went back for a copper and glass art piece the next morning that we realized we needed to bring home! It was a pleasure to visit this gallery and see such fine interpretations of the local area. We'll be sure to visit the next time to see what's new.

Went to a cookie decorating class here yesterday with a friend and it was sooooo fun! The place…read moreitself was corky and cute .. it's a canvass painting place but had classes that taught you how to decorate a cookie in detail.. there is a corner of the place that sold woman's clothing.. a bit weird but ‍.. the class was relaxing and fun! I would Definately join these classes again! Cookie class was $50 per person and came with everything you need and you take home the 4 cookies you decorate!
