The playground has the softest padded bouncy-like ground, tons of slides your kids will enjoy, a huge pirate ship, mermaid cove, castle, swings galore ! There are tons of climbing structures and bridges to climb across too! My kids have the most fun here and it's always hard to leave (even for me lol). I think I speak for many parents that the only thing they're missing is a splash pad! There are a handful of restrooms that are always clean and have handicap accessible changing tables too!! They do tend to run out of toilet paper quickly and sometimes only one restroom is available. Those are the only qualms I have , otherwise it's amazing ! It has numerous trails to travel and a multitude of flora and fauna. I really liked the park's layout with benches, a playground, a huge pavilion and many informative signs. I was equally impressed with the sign cautioning walkers and other trail adventurers, about wild hogs, coyotes, snakes, bobcats and mountain lions. Mountain Lions!! After reading, I became intensely focused on my surroundings. I was secretly hoping to see a mountain lion, but from a very great distance. I can say with all certainty, that when I visited this park, many moons ago, it did not seem that big nor interesting enough to warrant more visits. This last visit completely changed my mind. I was really impressed at the changes that this park underwent through the years. As seems to be the case with many San Antonio parks, Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park eventually leads into other parks, in this case Voelcker Park and Hardberger Park. This has given Walker Ranch a longer walking trail, and, really, bobcats, wild hogs, mountain lions...?! This used to be a little bitty park, and now there's the possibility of running into a myriad of wild and dangerous creatures! Clearly a totally different park.

We make several loops through the park, keeping count of all the deer. Typically around 10 each time we walk. Be careful though, they may pop out in front of you on the trail. As will many bikers passing you "ON YOUR LEFT!" I've not seen any other big animals to be aware of during the day. When it is exceptionally busy, the bikers do seem to be prevalent and it is important to keep your dog (and kids) close. We enjoy this park though due to our proximity to it and ease of walking. It wasn't quite shaded enough to frequent in the summertime though.

The best part about it is that it's an indoor playground with ac. That's about it. The last few times we went over a span of this last year we have seen the foam mats warp (so kids trip over them), trash and crumbs (we go opening hours on Sundays so they aren't cleaning before opening or at closing the previous day. Wall paint in bathrooms are peeling away. Most of the games at the arcade are not functioning properly, are out of order or haven't been maintained. I'm not even going to mention the ticket distribution and prizes. The last time we went, I noticed the casing on the toddler swing toy was completely gone. I mentioned it to the staff and was met with, " there's nothing we can do about it now". While that can be true, you could convey some kind of acknowledgement, apology or genuine concern versus irritation. Eventually staff went and did their best to remedy that particular situation. There's also an area for foam balls to fly out of a machine for kids to play and they were filled with the plastic ball put ones so it wasn't really working. I brought it up to staff and they just shrugged it off and said kids take them and so they are probably all around the place in ball pits. (Again we came at opening). So that particular area doesnt really function as intended, because it has a drop down basket for the foam balls and cannons to shoot the balls from. Overall it is just looking more run down each time we have gone and by this point it seems like it wasn't accidental. It's a shame because I have fond memories going when my oldest was a baby and that's why I don't give it a lower rating.

The reason why I am not giving them 5 stars is because parking is a nightmare. There are not enough parking spots to fit the crowds that come here. Between the soccer classes, birthday parties and the morning walkers, parking is super hard to get and you might have to be driving around a couple times until you get one. If it wasn't because of the birthday I was going, I would've turned around and go back home. Regardless, this is an amazing park and highly recommend for anyone with kids as little as 2 - 12.

Did you know there are 84, yes! 84 parks inside San Antonio which have nature trails for people to enjoy? Neither did I. But, I've been trying to discover something healthy to do since my Pho quest of 2018-2019, (I'm still researching that too. ) I love hiking, I throughly enjoy being in nature. (Even if cedar is out to kill me! ) So, my new quest is to go hiking 3-5 miles each weekend at a new park. So, back to Mud Creek Park. Let me tell you, this place is truly a hidden gem. It is off Jones Maltsburger, not to far from the Thousand Oaks intersection. But, if you're not paying attention, you will miss this hidden gem. The entrance is a simple driveway with a white sign with red font that simply reads Mud Creek Park. In the 90 minutes I trekked around, getting intentionally lost, I walked slowly, taking photos with my DSLR & my phone. I attached those images. I saw deer, one poor little Indian blanket bloom hanging on, 6 couples, one other single person, & a family with two large dogs. It was quiet, perfect weather, and the nature was everything I needed. Oh, be aware, while walking a couple with their Husky in lead, told me they had seen coyote. So, as we are supposed to do, keep your pet on lead. Keep them safe too. (Also bring water for them.) I highly recommend getting out & staying safe while social distancing. Be sure to take water & maybe a snack with you. Make it fruit & nuts so you don't leave trash behind. There are a few beaches to rest on if you stay along the trail. But it's more fun to wander. You'll get back to the trail easily if you wander off. Get out & discover San Antonio away from the hurrying in our lives right now. Stay safe!

04 Jan 2026 This is…read morea cute,small wilderness area. It butts up against a neighborhood on one side and up against a water dam of some sort on the other. The trail is basically fenced in. This is a dormant time of the year. Nothing flowering, did not see any deer, no insects. Hell, there weren't any birds, either. There was a lot cactus. The trail is a loop. Less than 2 miles. The husband was taking pictures and we were done in less than an hour because as I said, nothing much is happening. We'll go back in two or three months when hopefully things are hopping.

Deck the Holograms is an augmented reality experience in which you must "help" Santa save Christmas. It's a cute idea, and it was fun, even fun for a pair of older adults. Definitely well-done and worth the drive from the Riverwalk.
