I was recently very disappointed and angry regarding how our beagle's health was handled just last week. I brought him in because he was breathing very fast. First, the vet tells me he has a heart murmur, which really surprised me because he had been going there since we got him as a puppy to 7 years old as of last week and that condition was never brought up before. She did ask to do an x-ray to see if she could see anything about the heart before we had to take him to a dog cardiologist. She comes back and tells me he "might" have a murmur but the breathing was due to pneumonia. I had to then authorize another test to be sent out to find out what kind of pneumonia he had and was sent home with the lowest type of antibiotic until then and a $580.00 bill. Unfortunately, he passed away two days later. I don't understand how she didn't see he had so much fluid in his lungs and either do something to relieve that or keep him for observation. When I called them to tell him he died, all I was told that she was sorry and then transferred me to the receptionist to tell me MORE charges to take care of him from there! We took him to Imperial Animal Hospital instead where they had more compassion and lower prices to offer us during this difficult time. I will NEVER take another one of our animals there again. I feel the vet was very negligent in fully diagnosing his condition at that time. I have not heard another word from them and plan on disputing the charges with our credit card company. Great staff- great caring doctors- have gone here for years- have trusted them with all of my pets

I dropped my rating to a 2 from a 5 after the nightmare last week. My nearly 5 yr old shih tzu has been going there for the past 4 years and everything has been outstanding. Clean office and friendly staff. Unfortunately, my 10 week old puppy was vomiting and not eating so I took her in on a Wednesday late morning emergency appointment. After an x-ray and parvo test (both negative) and $300 later, we were sent home with some medication for nausea and a pate like canned food which she vomited immediately. A few hours later, I knew something was very wrong. I took her to the Emergency Animal Hospital where her blood sugar reading was extremely low and she went into cardiac arrest. I lost my baby girl that Wednesday night. This could have been prevented! When I told the Dr. that she was vomiting and not eating for 3 1/2 days, wouldn't you think he would have tested a 2 lb puppy's blood sugar? She had lost .6 lbs in those days! I was also promised a follow up call that never came. I'm seriously considering changing veterinarians or at the very least, not allowing that particular doctor anywhere near my dog. Prior to this debacle, I didn't know about blood sugar issues with puppies. Now I know. read more

so yesterday (Christmas Day) I sent an email asking for a shot record for one of my dogs that has a haircut appointment this afternoon (26th)... They send me the email record about 2 hours later... on Christmas!!! WOW, that's customer service!! Updated today 1-9-19. This is the most inconsistent place. Put my dog on Apoquel a week or so ago, they gave me a 14 day supply. Then I asked for a script to use an on-line pharmacy ($20/month cheaper) and they only wrote it for 2 months and then refused to fax it to that pharmacy "to protect me??". One time they are excellent with customer service, the next just the opposite. Can't figure them out. read more

Vogel Veterinary Hospital has by far exceeded my expectations for pet care. I recently adopted my first puppy and was recommended to go here by my brother. I recognized a friendly staff and atmosphere from the first phone call I made, even before stepping foot into the office. Dr. Maledy is a great guy, and his love for animals transpires with every visit. My dog got injured and had a femoral fracture on her left hind leg. Like any first-time dog owner, I was a mess and worried as can be. Dr. Maledy was great with her. He took care of the situation in a timely manner and referred me to the best specialist he knew. Dr. Maledy assured me that he'd take the best care of her while she had to stay overnight. As a college student, the tab for this sort of care is frightening, but Dr. Maledy did all he could to work with me and help out. When it comes to my dog, I won't settle for less than the absolute BEST, and that's exactly why I'd give Vogel Veterinary Hospital my highest recommendation. read more

Strongly recommend this vet. I took my cat Bella in when she was sick and they absolutely loved her and gave her the attention she needed. Well after a while Bella passed due to her liver problem, due to personal issues my dad had to take her in. They asked him if there was anything I would want, he told them her paw prints. Not even a week later I got her paw prints in the mail. I will definitely continue taking my pets here. read more

The employees here are always so nice. I recently had a medical emergency with my elderly dog who was staying at a local kennel. I was 8 hours away out of state and called them to let them know I was driving home to get my dog and asked if I could get him in the following day. To my relief they said they would squeeze us in and to get him there right when they opened at 9. We got there at 9 and we got right in. The vet took a look at him and gave us our options. He explained everything clearly. Unfortunately we had to do what every pet owner dreads. The staff was so very caring and sympathetic, they allowed us as much time as we needed with him. They even sent a sympathy card in the mail. read more

Big thanks to Vogel for supporting rescues!! Their entire staff is organized and easy to work with. Very easy to schedule appointments, bonus points for being open until 7 several nights a week. Requests for paperwork are filled quickly and efficiently. I've actually never worked directly with a vet since all of mine have been drop offs but the office spaces themselves are quite nice. Love the availability of coffee and hot chocolate in the very spacious waiting area. read more

Just another vet to me. I initially brought my puppy to this place because he was having issues with his stool and after talking to his old vet in another state they suggested doing another fecal exam. Plus I'm a first time dog owner and had lots of questions about my puppy. Making the appointment was easy and the receptionists are super sweet. When we got there we struggled to get him on the scale, no biggie and then went into a room. The room seemed out dated and a little drabby. Luckily my dog is outgoing and didn't seem to care while I was nervous as can be.. A woman came into the room and gave us a questionnaire to fill out and then returned just to ask me to hold my dog still so she could get his temperature and look at him. He's a puppy and the previous vet we took him to handled him very well, but this was a joke. She then had to go get the actual vet to hold him down with us (he's only 7 months old). The vet was very polite; he introduced himself and shook my hand. I liked him from the start.. Then I did what everyone else does and asked him about dog food brands. He hadn't heard of our dog food but suggested that Walmart brands aren't a big deal and also stressed about Science Hills Diet. I also asked him to look at a weird lump on my dogs belly, he answered that question perfectly.. But then when it came to eating stools he didn't really have too much to say so I left clueless and went to purchase the Science Hills Diet.. Once I got home I visited dog food advisor and found out that not only is that food a lower grade than what I was feeding him, one reviewer posted that her daughter works in a veterinary hospital and said that the main reason vets recommend that food is because it pays for scholars. I was infuriated! Returned that dog food and now wonder if he even cared about my pet's health. I don't know where to even take him to find a descent vet around here, but at least now I know where this guy stands. read more

I have been a long time customer of Vogel Vet. In the last few years I have felt their service has started to focus more on money rather than actual care of animals. I have had several negative experiences but my latest has made me switch to a different vet. My poor 10 year old Golden Retriever was ill and needed to be guided to the Rainbow Bridge. With all of the pandemic going on I knew it was going to be difficult. I called and was told to bring her in and call when I got there. The 1st thing they wanted to know is how I wanted to pay for it. Through tears I managed to give my debit card. Then, they spread a blanket out next to the dumpster on the edge of the parking lot. I was told to put her on that. The techs came out and put the IV line in. The doctor came out and administered the shot. Anyone from Vogel Vets parking lot all the way to the Walgreens could see what was happening. They could have at least took us behind the building where at least my sweet girl could have passed with some dignity. I hope nobody ever has to go through what we went through. read more

Best vet in the Arnold, MO area. Great with cats. All of the doctors and staff members I have met have been great with my cat, knowledgeable and compassionate - which I'm sure isn't always easy. Also, everyone I see coming and going with their dogs appear to be equally happy with their treatment during their visit as well. read more

Dr. Tom Shelton performed an unnecessary and expensive surgery on my cat. My cat was 12 years old and a diabetic, Tom Shelton should have know he was not healthy enough to survive the surgery. Physicians wouldn't even do that to another human! Instead of giving me the option to put him down, he informed me that the surgery would have no complications. My best friend died 3 days later. He was in so much pain. This could have been avoided if Tom Shelton wasn't so concerned with getting money. Now I lost my cat and have a bill for $1200 to pay. read more

Do not take your pet here. I recognized a bad "bedside" manner. I took my dog there for treatment. I overheard the vet on the other side of the examination door tell someone "I need to hurry up and get the hell out of here". Much concern on their part to get the bill paid BEFORE treatment was complete. Also when I originally made the appointment, receptionist was flustered and in a hurry to get me off the phone. read more

I have only used this veterinarian on one occasion but had a great experience under the circumstance. Approximately 2 weeks ago my 20+ year old cats health deteriorated quickly and they were able to get her in early and put her to sleep. It was a very emotional time for my wife and me we felt well taken care of during the whole process with the veterinarian talking us through the whole procedure. I also received a letter in the mail from them expressing they were sorry for my loss with handwritten signatures. I thought this was a very nice touch and something i appreciated very much. We do not have any pets as of this time but should that change in the future i will definitely be taking them here. read more
