Debra at Five Star Premier was outstanding. She went above and beyond to make my clients stay exactly what she needed. The best part about it, in my opinion, was Debra's genuine and utmost concern for my client during her stay. She truly cared about her comfort and addressed any concerns promptly. Five Star Premier is a beautiful and pristine community where all the employees and residents seem very happy to be there. The food was so delicious! Usually, in a large community the food tends to all taste the same. My client ate Atlantic salmon or some type of fish each day. She raved about how fresh and perfectly cooked the fish was each day. No need to hesitate on where your loved one will thrive...this is the place.

Since that time the facility changed management & became The Preston of the Park Cities. My mother has been a resident since the place first opened as Harbor Chase. The place is gorgeous and they are far more creative with their food and menus than any other place we initially looked at. Although there has been turnover in staff over the years, the best key players on staff stayed & have become real assets to the place. When Covid hit we were tremendously concerned about how this would be dealt with and how the residents would be protected. Watermark, who is the management company have done a phenomenal job handling the pandemic and keeping residents safe and their families well informed. The staff & residents were fully vaccinated by late January. Finding a great place for a parent, spouse or relative who needs assistance can be a very trying time in everyone's life. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place for them than The Preston of the Park Cities.

The facilities are great. The residents rooms and bathrooms are private and spacious with high quality buildouts. The food is good. I've noticed generally high quality, tasty food getting served. The staff means well. I don't doubt the sincerity of the staff wanting to help improve the quality of life of the residents whether that mean providing activities in the common areas, get them medical care when needed, speak to them encouragingly when they need to be re-guided. The issues I ran into require a little bit of context. My father is averse to getting help on showers. The PVN nurse suggested we look into getting some meds to help on shower days and get some external extra help to provide showers for him. While I wasn't happy to pay for extra help, given the high cost of PVN I thought the request was presented in a professional manner. The issues come in with a lack of professional approach to medical management and follow-up. I consider these issues significant enough to ding PVN down to 2 stars. My father's doctor agreed that some medicines could help make shower days a little easier and that it was important for him to stay clean on a regular basis. The problem is that now, despite this being the PVN staff's idea, they are unable to get the medicines to my dad on the morning's of the shower days. They have missed this 3 out of the last 4 shower days, which then makes the task of giving showers a monumental task. It would seem that this would be easy to address given that they claim to give him his other medicines, but the one medicine that was introduced - effectively at their request - is something they seem unable or unwilling to give him. I have called numerous times and can get an answer about 50% of the time. I have sent 4 emails on this topic to the Head Nurse & her assistant and have a 0% response rate thus far. In my mind this boils down to poor leadership. I have no way of communicating with the senior leaders of PVN to get these issues addressed. The nurses ignore my emails, and worse, deny my father the access to medicines that will improve his and his fellow residents quality of life. it is my belief that PVN needs to fundamentally transform the culture and leadership of their organization. They are currently falling far short of their mission.

The only phone call I got was that night letting me know that she had passed away. I've called 6 times asking for her admittance record from the facility and they have either transferred me or ignored my requests saying it's up to corporate to give their approval. They started out in IL (independent living) and 3 years ago we lost Dad and Mom moved into DL (dependent living). All buildings are connected so Mom gets to see old friends at Sunday Brunch. (She is 93 now.) She has made many new friends in the DL building who are charming and so nice to her. I'm writing this because over the last 5-6 months I've been joining Mom for Happy Hour and have gotten to know her friends. I can't tell you how many stories I hear them share about other facilities in Dallas (Austin and Houston too) about how bad the food is and how they themselves (or friends) are ignored and not cared for. They told be several times that when they tell people how awesome everything is at The Forum... their friends don't believe it!! LOL, LOL. Well... it's true! Yes, I confess I take Mom to Sunday Brunch so I can get one of the best omelets in Dallas (in the IL building) and the rest of the food is so nice. My sisters take guests and we always celebrate birthdays and holidays at Sunday Brunch. Enough about that. Let's get to the brass tacks. The staff is probably the best I've ever encountered. If I'm with Mon and she has an ache and needs some Tylenol, I call the front desk and the nurse brings it to her within 15 min or so. VERY RESPONSIVE!! (Abbey is so awesome!) Mom has a Help Watch on her arm and can press the button and help comes immediately. As well, the staff will call me with every incident (like sliding out of her chair, etc.) Major or minor - they update the family immediately. AWESOME! Ok. So you are looking for a place for your parents. Absolutely check out The Forum. Have frank and direct conversations with the staff who show you around (and see if you can pay to sample the Sunday Buffet!!) Our family has so much peace knowing even the cleaning people care about a quality job and if they observe anything that needs attention - they alert the right people. Later, as she needed more help there was 24/7 nursing care at different levels of need. We were so happy to be able to let her spend her final days there.

DO NOT choose VNA for your loved ones hospice care. My mom has COPD. So she qualified for…read morepalliative hospice care. She fell and cracked Vertebrae. I called 911. I called hospice. They told me they had to revoke her care with them because she went into the hospital...not true. They only have to revoke care if the patient goes into the hospital to be treated for the SAME chronic illness that qualified them for hospice... My mother was on hospice because of her chronic COPD. She went to the hospital because she fell. I pointed that out, then they backtracked and said they had to cancel her care so Medicare would pay for it....again, not true. Because it was a Medicare approved hospice program Medicare would have paid. And did. They assured me on Wednesday they would reinstate her, absolutely no problem. And a nurse would call me. By Friday, no call. I left several messages with the hospice nurse the hospice social worker manager and a general number because my mom was going to run out of her blood pressure medication as well as some other medication... All of which I explain to them on Wednesday... The social worker manager waited till Friday evening at 6 o'clock to call me to tell me they were not taking mom back as a patient! (I'm sure it's not coincidence that our social worker left the agency the pastor left the agency the back up Nurse left the agency and Social worker manager was having to take over MOM social workers case load. And manage all the social workers. And she just happen to be the one to decide not to take mom back. She wanted to get rid of that extra case load. And they started with my mom.) They left me with no Doctor No care and no prescription refills!!! On a Friday night at 6pm!! Then the executive director called me. After I caught her in her third lie, she got so flustered she refused to continue the conversation......please!!! There are so many hospice programs that are fully staffed and can actually care for their patients the way they should be care for... Do not under any circumstances trust your loved ones care to these people!!! They have no business in the medical field much less the hospice field!!!! (The only reason I left one star is because it wouldn't let me post my comments otherwise)

We transferred my father to VNA as I was not at all liking the service he had. He had been in Hurst…read morebut we agreed to change to VNA as he was getting worse from bone cancer and metastasis to the brain. I am a nurse and had always heard great things about VNA. He was started on service at my sisters the week before he became totally in capacitated and was moved to my home for care ( I'm an RN but it was still hard for me). His nurse Bobbie could not have been more caring and helpful. She arranged immediate transfer and 2 hours before he came - the hospital bed , oxygen and all his needs were met and set up. The gentlemen that set up his equipment were patient and quick. I wish I could say he lasted a few weeks but he died after 4 days. But he had a meal with me in the kitchen on Saturday then went to bed and didn't get up... dying on Tuesday. Within a few hours he was gone . Hugo had washed him shaved and gotten him comfortable- he died 1 1/2 hours later. But he looked so clean and comfortable. Bobbie his nurse was right there!! I don't know what I would have done with out her. She and Hugo are God's angels on earth. I will never forget them. Thank you both. And much love to both. Sincerely- The Russell family
