About 5 years ago I had lots of dental work done and had a partial made for my top teeth. I had to…read morelive without dental insurance for about 10 years, and my teeth suffered greatly because of it. Over a year ago I finally landed a good job with benefits and returned to their office for more work. The dentist was different when I had work done before, and he was wonderful. The staff is wonderful. Dr. Tupman is terrible. He doesn't need to be practicing. Back in April of this year, I went to the office in Dublin to have two teeth filled. I had broken one while eating with the partial in, and knew it was a possibility that the filling wouldn't last. My teeth were rough and rigid and I was severely swollen after they were fixed. Dr. Tupman said to wait until the swelling healed and to give them a call if we needed to adjust. Well, I waited a week and it still wasn't fitting. I knew this was because he had not put the rest stop back where it had been once he had filled the tooth. (Side note: Yesterday I called it a groove or something of that nature and he said he didn't know what I was talking about and corrected me to use the term rest stop.) I called the office and let them know I needed to come in for an adjustment, but unfortunately had to cancel due to illness. Then, the other tooth he had filled and said may not last needed to be pulled. At this point I returned to the dentist and said we could wait to adjust, as I couldn't wear the partial until it was modified, anyway, because the tooth that was pulled was the anchor tooth. So, he pulled the tooth and sent me on my way after sitting with me and planning what we were going to do when I returned. We decided to add another tooth and a clasp to the partial. When I went in yesterday, the hygienist did an impression and asked if I could put the partial in. I explained that I couldn't because they had already pulled the anchor tooth. (Why they couldn't get that information from their notes on me in the system is beyond me. He tried bending the partial with a pair of pliers before he tried anything else or consulted his notes. The notes are there. I saw them yesterday. After he broke the bad news to me yesterday, I was in shock at his lack of professional courtesy and his overall "too bad for you" attitude. I walked out confused and upset and then decided to return. I explained to him that the reason it didn't fit was because of how he left my tooth after he "fixed" it, at which point he condescendingly asked me to put the partial in to show me that it didn't fit. I said, "Of course it doesn't, you just bent it with pliers five minutes ago." He refused to see where he left excess filling on the back of my tooth, trying to make me feel like an idiot. Any idiot can see what I'm talking about, as the tooth on the other side of my mouth has the same rest stop and same place on the partial. When I came yesterday, I expected to be treated with professionalism because I was about to spend lots of money in their office over the next few weeks. Everything could have been taken care of if he had been prepared, read the notes, and known that he needed to correct his mistake on my tooth before destroying my partial. This dentist, and by proxy, their entire organization, is setting the precedent for very bad customer service. It seems to me Dr. Tupman is knowingly destroying people's teeth to increase their bill and services needed. I have heard this from other people, as well. I expect this to be taken care of immediately. I want my partial fixed, and if it can't be fixed, I want it replaced at no charge. I know Dr. Tupman's main concern is not being liable for anything at all, since he will only do the work that you agree to, and admit knowing that it may not work at all. He said he could work on whichever tooth I wanted, but he couldn't make any promises. I told him that's what he said when he filled my tooth, and look what happened. Dr. Tupman is taking advantage of his patients. This needs to be addressed. UPDATE: tried to post a review on their website and facebook page, but they were not approved. Don't trust the reviews posted. They are only the good reviews.

First things, first. I have been a patient here for close to twenty years - through three different…read morepractice owners/dentists - and have always gotten great dental care. Brenda is probably the best hygienist I've ever been to. Personable and pleasant, thorough and knowledgeable - an all-around excellent hygienist. Dr. Settles is equally great. I cannot say enough good things about them or their treatment and skill level. The office staff, on the other hand, is abysmal. They routinely send out "bills" based on " insurance estimates", even after the participating insurance company has paid. Most recently I called to question a bill that both I and my insurance said was paid and that I owed nothing. This was the second time I received this bill and was now "past due." (Delta Dental told me it was paid within one week of my visit.) "Susan" initially took my call. Three different times I gave her my name and account number, and each time she tried linking me to a totally different patient. Finally, she transferred me to "Tina", the office manager. I have never been treated so rudely nor unprofessionally as Tina treated me. Tina first told me that the bill was automatically generated and there was nothing to be done about it. When I challenged her, she told me that was just the way it was and to ignore it. I pressed her by saying it needs to be fixed and that I did not want to end up in collections due to an automated erroneous "bill" (that is based on an estimate.) Again, Tina blew it off so I followed by saying that she knew there was error and wouldn't fix it, and that if I ended up in collections I reserved the right to sue for false billing; she/her office needed to fix this, that I was done dealing with it. Things went horribly sideways from that point on. Tina said she'd just "de-list" me and I'd never hear anything from them again. I replied by saying I had no intention of quitting the practice, only that I wanted the billing corrected. From that point onwards, Tina constantly over-talked me and wouldn't let me say anything. I tried telling her that I had already called Delta Dental, that Delta Dental told me I owed nothing, and that Wytheville Dental Group had been paid on June 21, 2023 for my June 14, 2023 office visit. I also kept trying to tell Tina that Delta Dental had provided a reference/event number. Tina kept over-talking me and wouldn't listen. I finally told her to "shut up and listen to me for just a minute." Tina then hung up the phone on me. I never got a chance to give her, nor anyone else, the reference number from Delta Dental. I tried calling back for the next fifteen minutes, but my calls were never answered. I can only presume Tina told the front desk to ignore my calls. I then reached out to Wytheville Dental Group via their Facebook page. Within an hour, someone named "Sherry" responded, saying she would call me "around 9 am" the following morning. Edited to add that Sherry is the overall practice manager. She called as promised, and was very professional and very apologetic, and she assured me that this issue will be addressed. Thank you, Sherry.
