I came in with a lot of pain in the area where I previously had a root canal. Dr Lee saw the X-rays and was shaking her head nearly the entire time she explained it to me. When I had it done 11 years ago, it was in a different country. And she was talking to me as if it's my fault that they did what they did to my tooth. I even found myself being defensive and saying, "I'm not a dentist so I don't know what was right." She said I had two options: retreatment or removal. Dr. Lee is absolutely amazing. If I could make her my primary dentist I absolutely would. She answers every question and most importantly, she doesn't drill unless she absolutely has to. Dr Lee did as much as she could to manage any pain I was having during my root canal procedure. She kept reaching for the novacaine syringe over and over again. It was my first root canal but I felt comfortable with her because I just trusted her. She was very confident and professional with her work. Turns out I have unusual nerve anatomy that makes my root canals more complicated but here I am 3 days later with no pain in my tooth anymore. I also think she used her lunch break to get me in since I was in pain. I was scheduled for a quick consult "but sometimes Dr Lee will just do the root canal right away if the patient is in pain" the receptionist had told me when I called for an appt. It took 2 hours to complete I believe because of the unusual anatomy and I never felt like she rushed anything. She took her time to answer all questions. I'm very picky about healthcare providers and anything in general and I have no complaints. She did a great job at explaining everything to me, too. A quick update once in a while on how much time is left in the procedure or what % is done once would be a nice touch just to set expectations! read more

I have never had any dental work done outside of one filling and my routine cleaning. I went in for a consultation as recommended by my dentist and was diagnosed with needing a root canal. I have a very sensitive mouth. Dr. Lee is fantastic!!! She calmed my nerves, talked me through every stepped of the process and kept asking me while performing the root canal how I was doing. I am so excited to share my experience with Dr. Vivian Lee. I met Dr. Lee three weeks ago for a root canal, my first interaction with her was the most pleasant that I ever had with a health professional. She made me feel at ease through the first step in my root canal. I never thought that I would be comfortable coming back for the final step in my root canal. Dr. Lee easily provided me with the best dental experience I've ever had in my 33 years of life. She performed a root canal and I actually started falling asleep several times during the procedure, not because I was given medication or gas, I was falling asleep because I was that comfortable and generally tired. I went to see Dr. Lee for an emergency root canal. I was looking for a practice that was reasonably close to Alexandria and that would accept my insurance. As it turned out, there were no same-day appointments available in Dr. Lee's Alexandria office, so I went to her Arlington location. By then I would have done almost anything to stop the pain as soon as I could. If you are reading this, maybe you know what I mean. As it turned out, I count myself lucky to have found Dr. Lee. She coordinated well with her assistant Maritza (nothing is more disturbing than two people working at cross purposes in your mouth), and she kept me informed on how the procedure was going, and what to expect. I won't say it was fun, but it was surprisingly tolerable for almost the whole way. Apparently my tooth was a bit difficult to work with, and things got a little tense at the end, but overall I was very satisfied. It has been over a month, and the tooth feels completely back to normal. I'd definitely go back to Dr. Lee again, though I hope it isn't anytime soon. Dr. Lee's office only handles the root canal, so you need to find a general dentist to fill or crown the tooth afterwards. You have to get this done within a week. Just so you know what to expect. My dentist did the follow-up, and felt this was completely reasonable. He complimented Dr. Lee's work, saying that it had been done "conservatively" and that it gave me a good chance of saving the tooth. read more

Had a great experience with Dr. Lee who I was referred to for root canal therapy. Dr. Lee is patient and has a great chairside manner to put you at ease. I had no pain during the procedure and she was very thorough with making sure I was numb before beginning treatment. I would not hesitate to return to Dr. Lee for an endodontic procedure in the future. I saw Dr. Lee on short notice for root canal therapy and everything from the front office to the dentist chair was an excellent experience. Her front office staff was excellent and thorough, ensuring that all of my insurance information was squared away by the time I arrived for my appointment. The day of my appointment, aside from the time to fill out the necessary paperwork, I was seen immediately. Her technician worked quickly with x-rays and prep and was very knowledgeable. Dr. Lee quickly confirmed what I assumed and proceeded with the root canal therapy. She walked me through the procedure and gave me a general timeframe. She ensured that I was properly anesthetized and comfortable throughout and before I knew it, I was done with the procedure. This is somewhat subjective, but the mixture of late 70's, 80's and 00's singer song writers was quite calming. Anyway, now on to the restorative chapter of my dental journey. Dr. Lee performed a root canal for me in January 2013. I was very pleased with her thoroughness in ensuring the infection was gone before discharging me, which was 4 or 5 visits. Her attention to cleanliness and hygiene were impressive. The office staff were terrific, helpful, and friendly. Dr. Lee seemed extremely competent and caring and seemed to have very modern equipment and techniques. My regular dentist was very impressed with how small an opening she was able to create. He was even more impressed with the colored packing she used which he said was along the lines of "remove here dummy" so it wasn't missed by your regular dentist when he permanently filled the opening. I would not hesitate to return to Dr. Lee and highly recommend here. Dr. Lee's assistant was also very nice and friendly. There was also very minimal pain in her office and afterwards. read more

I saw Dr. Lee today on an emergency root canal that turned out to be 2! Considering I had no appointment, but had been referred on an emergency basis, Dr. Lee was able to fit me in with hardly any wait at all. I agree with the other reviews: her office staff are extremely personable, professional and nice! Dr. Lee herself is the epitomy of professionalism and competence. She had my 2 root canals done in no time, explained what was happening, and I don't even have a lot of post appointment pain. Her assistant was very helpful as well, answering all my questions, with great follow up notes, and pain meds if I needed them. Nobody likes having a root canal, but I would go to her in a flash! I visited Dr. Lee's office to have some internal bleaching done on a root canal I got a few years back by another dentist. My tooth had been discolored for years. Not only did Dr. Lee thoroughly explain the whitening process, but she took out a pen and paper and drew a little picture to help me understand what was involved and what exactly she'd be doing during the procedure, so I was comfortable with it. As it turns out, when we attempted to do the bleaching Dr. Lee found some issues with the root canal my former dentist had done and explained why she recommended having it redone. Knowing that this was not news I'd like to hear, she showed me my X-rays and photos, explained what a good root canal should look like, and it was very clear to me it needed to be redone. I appreciated her honesty and her explanation made me confident I could trust her advice, so I told her to go ahead and redo it. And boy am I glad that I did. She fit me into her schedule and we redid the root canal SAME DAY! I had no pain, no discomfort and she did the internal bleaching for me also. By the next day, my tooth (which had been gray for over 10 years) looked AMAZING. I was (and still am) in shock! I wish I had found Dr. Lee 10 years sooner! She's honest, thorough, and had excellent bedside manner. I will have no hesitation recommending anyone that needs an endodontist to this office! read more
