So far I am happy with my treatment (not done yet!) lol. But yes I called this practice on referral from my general dentist. They were courteous and were able to fit me in within a few days even with Covid restrictions. Clean and generally modern office. I was pleased that my endodontist, Dr. Portell, went carefully over my treatment. The nurse/assistant was also pleasant and helpful. My only complaint is the long wait time in the waiting room, which they apologized for and I attribute more to the impending snow storm. Anyway, I am hopeful that my dental concerns are in good hands. Will update when I finish my treatment plan! read more

Hippocratic oath says first do no harm. This should apply to endodonists as well as physicians. When you scan my tooth showing it's cracked, why would you ask me to bite down on a cotton wad to break it further? Now I have to immediately seek dental care to remove the broken part of the tooth and it's late Friday PM when their office is closed. And when the patient hears the doctor say "oops I guess I should put that back where it was" the patient is NOT comforted. Lastly, asking a patient to arrive 30 minutes early to complete paperwork that was all done on line and then to only pay for one hour of parking when you have directly caused the patient to spend longer unnecessarily, demonstrates a lack of interest in your patients and their valuable time. Dr. Palmieri and his staff are very professional. I was very nervous for root canal, Dr. Palmieri was very patient and explained the process to me and showed me the x rays to be sure I understood everything. He was very gentle with the numbing process and did not feel anything except a pinch. He did a really great job on the molars and it only took less than 1 hour. He was not rushed but took the time to be sure that I was comfortable. I highly recommend him. His dental assistant Mariana was very pleasant as well. she took the time to explain the process to me and be sure that I was ok. It was not nearly as bad I as had thought it would be. A little sore afterwards, but during the process did not feel much.. The best customer service!!! From consultation to end of surgery they made me comfortable during my root canal. Dr. Palmieri and his assistant were awesome. My only issue is that they rescheduled my appointment more than once when I called and told them I was in pain. I was in serious pain and they would never squeeze me in to be seen. And rescheduling my appointment knowing I was in pain. My first call was April and I'm just getting in and it's late August :( If My treatment in the chair wasn't so great I would be pissed. This is my second root canal with them and despite it being difficult to get an appointment, I would go back- but I hope I don't have to:) They really need to have slots set aside for people in serious pain. read more

Are you kidding me? Dr. Palmieri was incredible! This was my 2nd root canal and it was everything my 1st one wasn't - quick, efficient, and painless. The first time was 3 visits with a different endodontist in Reston over the course of a number of weeks with the last visit being almost two hours. An hour into that one I thought we were done and he said, 'I just can't seem to find that last canal.' I just about died right then and there. Appt. with Dr. Palmieri was at 4:00p and when he started cleaning up at 5:00p I was about to ask him when I need to come back for my next appointment when he said, 'All done!' I was honestly shocked and as crazy as it sounds, excited for what just happened. I was done, no next appointment, no more shots, no more drilling, no more pain. Free....That's it, I was free. It's the next day right now and my jaw is still coming to terms with the violation it just endured (a little sore which he said to expect), but I haven't needed to touch the Ibuprofen he gave me (was popping 2 Advil every 4 hours prior to take the edge off the ache). Dr Palmieri was recommended to me by my dentist and I was more than pleased with the work I had done for a root canal. He was knowledgeable, efficient, well-prepared, explained what was happening and had a wonderful assistant who could not have been kinder and helpful with making me feel comfortable. And, Dr. Palmieri called to check on me that evening. So thoughtful. Lovely offices, too, at the Alexandria location. I cannot address the administrative aspects of billing other than I asked for an estimate of out of pocket expenses which they provided in advance and if I could make 2 payments via a credit card for the balance due which was set up. I was also advised that the balance due would be provided after they heard back from the insurance companies involved in case their estimate changed. I was EXTREMELY nervous to get my root canal done. I even put it off for a few months because I'm terrified of needles. The entire staff at Dominion Endodontics is extremely friendly. The assistant kelp me calm during the injections, which to my surprise didn't hurt at all. The dentist added a numbing cream beforehand. The procedure was fast and done right. I had it done Monday morning and it's now Friday and it doesn't hurt at all. They did give me some ibuprofen to take home but I haven't had to take a single one. I highly recommend them :) read more

As a general dentist myself, I know full well how root canals should be done, and not only does Dr. Portell do an excellent job, he is also the most gentle dentist I have been to so far. The reason for the one star is because of myra the billing manager. The doctors are great and the staff is okay at this location. Just be careful when you go in for a rootcanel that they disclose all the information up front. They also have terrible customer service and no follow. I was sent a bill and called several times to inquire about the balance, when I was told there was no payment. I have to call multiply times before Myra would call back. Once I got ahold of her she was rude. I didnt want to believe that dentist or endodenist want your money, but in my case I was lied too and they did. I would not recommend going to this place. read more

No question Dr. Palmeri is the best of the best! He and all of his staff treated me so well, and my first most frightening, anxiety inducing root canal was fantastic. (My fear and anxiety were through the roof). Everyone in the office was very nice and comforting. It was virtually a pain free, thanks to Dr. Palmeri's expertise. He explained everything that he was going to do and why. He was also very honest about the recovery. Dr. Palmeri told me exactly what to expect and when to expect it and what to do about it. (It was not in anyway painful and only had to take motrin for one more day) I had a very pleasant experience considering noone wants a root canal. But if you have to get a root canal or any other Endodontic work done, Dr. Palmeri is the doctor to call. I had to see him due to 3 crowns I had done only 2 weeks before from a dentist. One was excruciating painful and the pain is gone. Now, another is very sensitive and I went to get that checked today. They could have easily scheduled an appointment for another root canal at that time, (I would do anything to prevent that pain coming back again) but they were honest and told me to give it time. I was so relieved and I really appreciate Dr. Palmeri's honesty. They are a sincerely kind, and ethical practice and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Dominion Endodontics is fantastic. Dr. Palmieri is fantastic. Getting my root canal done there today was fantastic. I am feeling fantastic. Life is fantastic. I am not kidding when I say I walked out of their office smiling. I was so relieved it was over and so pleased with Dr. Palmieri that I was literally tickled pink. By the way, save yourself the worry of getting a parking ticket by parking in the Hilton Hotel garage, which is right across the street. Dominion Endodontics validates for the first hour. Okay, here's the deal. I have terrible teeth. Always have. Including cavities in every molar in my mouth, I've had 3 root canals, my first one at the age of 10. So I can speak from experience in comparing my dental visit with Dr. Palmieri to other dentists. No comparison. Dr. Palmieri is hands down the BEST dentist I have ever had. From start to finish, I was put at ease by his confident, but gentle, manner and felt nothing in the way of physical discomfort by the procedure itself. I didn't really even feel the needle pricks when he numbed me, which usually are extremely uncomfortable. Sometimes, all the cheek shaking in the world doesn't help because that needle can hurt. I don't know if Palmieri uses some special pre-needle numbing agent or what, but I barely felt anything when he stuck me. On that issue, I am EXTREMELY difficult to numb. One prior dentist had to stick me almost 10 times in order to get me numb -- a few were after he had already started the procedure. Not good. You don't want to feel the pain of a dental drill. So I warned Palmieri about this. He patiently listened to my concerns, and explained about how precise the numbing of the correct nerves has to be and not every dentist has perfected this skill. He informed me that he had additional study/training on nerves specifically and was confident I would be fine. But added, if at any point I felt anything to immediately raise my hand. I was cautiously optimistic as the procedure began. Palmieri asked me if I felt anything. Shook my head no. Later, he said he had reached the nerve and asked me again how I was doing. Gave the thumbs up. Next thing I knew, he was done. To be at ease and feel nothing. You can't ask for more than this when undergoing a root canal. Those who have fear or trepidation, go see Dr. Palmieri. I promise you, you won't need laughing gas or sedation. Save yourself some money; you will be just fine without these aids. You're in good hands. Dr. Palmieri has the skills and a wonderful calming demeanor to get you through the procedure. I recommend him to anyone and everyone!! read more

I was referred to Dominion Endodontics by my primary dentist, who thought my intensifying toothache likely needed to be resolved by a root canal. I was seen by Dr. Nathan Schoenly, D.D.S. Nathan is friendly and approachable, and by projecting both competence and professionalism, he had an immediate calming effect on me. My dentist recommended me to Dominion Endodontics after realizing a root canal I had ten years ago wasn't done properly and infection was setting in. I thought the procedure would be terrible and expensive experience based on past experiences but I was completely wrong. Dr. Schoenly was the best dentist I've had when it comes to sitting down with me to explain every step of the procedure, why he was doing it, and answering any questions I had. The root canal lasted only 45 minutes and hurt even less than most cavity fillings I've had. When I returned to my dentist she even remarked how good of a job it was when she saw the xray. It feels weird to give 5 stars to someone who gave you a root canal, but honestly it was a really pleasant experience (as much as oral surgery can be). Dr. Nathan Schoenly performed my root canal, and he was very calming and thorough. He took time to explain exactly what would be happening and continually asked me if I was doing ok or needed anything. They even gave me headphones so I could relax a little during the procedure. It only took about 45 minutes, I didn't feel a thing during the procedure, and I have been pain free since the root canal! I was referred to this practice by my dentist when it was discovered that I have a cracked tooth and needed a root canal. There were able to accommodate me the same in the in the early evening. The office is very bright and open and after completing the require new patient forms I was brought in for treatment. Staci is a pleasure and she made me feel comfortable from the moment she spoke to me. She informed me of everything that was going to happen and how they will take good care of me which they most certainly did. Dr. Palmieri did a fantastic job and was very attentive to pain management throughout the procedure. I was given very thorough instructions for home care and a prescription for steroids to manage the inflammation which I did not have so there was no need to fill it. I had seen Dr Portell a year ago for very complicated root canal retreatment and it was done successfully. Since then,I haven't been having any issue on that tooth and in fact,the bone is recovering .Dr Portell is very professional and caring and would like to commend all the other staff members as well who are freindly and know what they do. Dr. Schoenly was sympathetic to my significant root canal/dental needs. However, the Arlington/Ballston office staff and post visit accounting/billing staff require significant improvement. Overbilled me for the cost of the visit, unresponsive to telephone messages and emails and submitted a claim to my dental insurance co after they told me they were not a preferred provider with my insurance co. Requested additional payment from insurance co which further increased their reimbursement above and beyond my overpayment. Disingenuous responses when I enquired about status of overpayments and refund of same. Frankly, its the reason I would likely not return for actual suggested dental work. read more

I must admit, I was dreading my root canal- I have only had one once before and that was 30 years ago. Apparently they have improved in the last 30 years. I won't say it was pleasant, but it was much better than I thought it would be. Dr. Palmieri and his assistant were professional and very accommodating of my phobias!
