Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. They have three screens (modern church), live music with singers, and a Christmas presentation where children were dancing to religious Christmas music. They also had "fake snow" fall from the ceiling for a part of it. In addition, there is ample and free parking. A whole parking lot is dedicated toward this church on Sunday. The holiday sermon was about 2 hours long from 11 am to 1 pm. It was a lengthier mass I've been to, but it was definitely enjoyable!

Huikala is an amazing and warm church family that welcomes you with open arms! I've never experienced anything like that at a church. You feel like you really belong there. Pastor Anthony preaches from the Word of God every Sunday and you hear the Gospel every sermon. His sermons are challenging and convicting (Praise God!!!!). You will grow here! He gives you real life application to go out into your week, make change, be more Christ like, and make disciples of all nations! Candlelight Concert by Fever... Tribute to Michael…read moreJackson... My friend's birthday is the same day as Michael Jackson (August 29). I asked her if ahe wanted to attend this concert at St. Andrew's Cathedral and she agreed... especially because a String Quartet was playing! I got our tickets online and received email reminders and the tickets via QRcode. Parking after 6pm was free in metered street stalls nearby. Parking at St. Andrew's Cathedral had a fee. The unfortunate thing about this venue was that it has no air-conditioning. Each pew had some lauhala hand-held manual fans, but they were to be shared. I felt a very slight breeze from the cross ventilation of the open windows. The good thing about this historical venue was the acoustics. It also had beautiful architecture, stained glass windows, graceful arches, etc. The quartet played twelve songs: Bad Human Nature Rock With You Billie Jean Say Say Say We Are The World Smooth Criminal Heal The World Remember The Time Earth Song Thriller Beat It It was wonderful to hear familiar songs in a different way! The four gals shared humorous anecdotes about the songs; sometimes snapping their fingers; sometimes tapping on their instruments (becausethere were no percussion instruments); and sometimes singing out a phrase like, "Who's Bad!" The concert was very organized. The ushers and ticket scanners seem like they've all done their jobs before. I asked about the restroom... it's in the next building and down the hall. We went early to get the best seats in our Zone C. Some of the people who arrived after us had to sit behind pillars. The doors closed promptly on time. No late entrances. Thanks to the String Quartet for playing this Tribute to Michael Jackson for the first time in Hawaii! It was fabulous!

Members of The Kai'ulani Choir sang beautiful hymns throughout the service, and a loving Hula was performed to start off the evening's program. What a spiritual experience it was sitting in this church, looking around at the Altar and the stained glass windows, feeling the cool evening breeze flow through the sanctuary. Although I'm not a religious person, I would consider coming back for a Sunday Mass.

For one, they live what they preach and the pastor would never tell you to do something or give to something that he wouldn't! Our Senior Pastors, Dr. James and Colleen Marocco are 100% all the time! Worship is no joke!!! It goes beyond the lights, it's literally the Holy Spirit that leads worship! There are soo much things that KC does that goes above and beyond your expectations for a church. Let's start with the amazing parking lot team! All first time guest are given special parking right in front of the entrance! You are taken into the front, where amazing greeters will welcome you as you enter! Our decor is always on fleeek! Right now, we have an amazing Christmas Themed lobby. They have a cute cafe area with specialty drinks, fresh cooked breakfast and lunch before and after services! Our food is freshly made by an amazing chef back there with her amazing Team! follow their IG @Kingscafeoahu! The food always sells out so get it quickly after service! Let's not forget the famous chocolate chip cookies!!!! Sooo good, and as a new comer, you are given a free cookie and beverage of your choice. Did i mention we even have Keto coffee? They do food distribution about 2 times a month(subject to change). They did a Christmas Angel Tree donation where we exceeded our goal to reach those in need! They are all about giving. Again, their leaders don't tell you to do something they wouldn't do! There is soo many more reasons to go, but... one thing is for sure, you won't go to a service and leave without something you need to hear!!! God always has a message for you, rather it's for an event, like a Christmas Play(happening this weekend), or just to check it out... I pray that the Lord will bless you on this visit! I've valued those words through the years as I've moved around and sought a church to plug into. What I can say about New Hope Manoa is that I've met a lot of great people who genuinely try to love others, and I find the teaching to be biblically based. I love the kupuna (elders) who try their best to model faithfulness and kindness. The worship is not flashy, but heartfelt. I especially appreciate when the youth lead worship or when a single aunty is on stage with a guitar because she wants to help people connect with Jesus. Pastor Rod helps the church not just understand scripture, but try to live it out. He has a heart of a shepherd, whether visiting someone who is sick or texting someone who hasn't been around in a while to check in. I love the "Show God, Share Aloha" ministry that helps people with food, utilities, health needs, etc. Every church has its problems like my mentor said 20 years ago, but the goal is to try to be more like Jesus in humility and love. And I see that in many people at New Hope Manoa. Services are Sundays at 9:30am at the auditorium at Mid-Pac in Manoa. Lots of parking available! Dress up or wear a tank top and board shorts. Either way, people will try to welcome you well.
