When I first moved to Hawaii two years ago I was looking for three things in a church: - I would be challenged by the message - I would find a community - I would be able to serve in the church I was house hunting when I noticed One Love's Compassion Cafe. I attended service that weekend, was floored by the convicting prayers and message by a guest speaker, started serving at the Cafe the next weekend, and got connected to the young adults group within the month. I really put myself out there and in the beginning it did feel lonely. But it only takes a few people to extend grace and I was in the fold soon enough. The message: Kahu Waxer is a brilliant teacher. What I really enjoy about the line-by-line scripture store is that this addresses all of the Bible. I've moved over a dozen times in my life and often church sermons are topical, recycled, and safe. Then I come to One Love and was astounded to start learning again. Sometimes the humor can be real kine local. Serving: There are so many areas to serve in, whether your passion is with media or worship or children. You can be a greeter, an emcee, a bible study leader. You can help out with the middle schoolers, high schoolers, young adults, babies. You can cook for and serve at Entertaining Angels or assist with yard work during the Kapuna outreaches. You can even be a Levite, picking up the odds and ends of tasks that are critical but often forgotten. There are always ways to serve. Community: People won't ever be satisfied going through life looking for churches to cater to them. That said, I think One Love does a phenomenal job trying to intelligently and effectively meet the needs of all who walk through the door. But the best kind of community is the one where you also feed into. Without my peoples, I would have never gotten involved in facilitating bible study, flown to other islands to vacation, had cookouts and birthday parties and dive expeditions. I would have compromised my morals time and time again if not for wonderful accountability partners. And all of this centered on Jesus. It's been pretty amazing being here. read more

I was curious about this place because I was told about the ministry and how it was very kid friendly with even a play area for kids. I stopped by in the middle of the week to walk in during my lunch break to see what the layout was like or maybe speak to someone about the venue. I parked in a spot that said RESERVED PARKING ONE LOVE ONLY. I run a business and talk to customers frequently on my phone. I sat in my car to finish a phone call. Call lasted about 4 minutes. Before I could get out of my car a parking lot enforcer told me I need to Leave and I can't park there. I asked, "not even for customers?" He said " The manager asked me to see what's going on and what's you out" Confused that the spot said it was for ONE love customers only and thrown off that they didn't want customers around, I just chose to leave and head back to work. read more

This review is NOT about the excellent teaching of the awesome pastors here - who teach the Word line by line. They truly have the gift of teaching. I don't appreciate the negative reviews down below because someone was told to leave a parking space. These reviews should be deleted from Yelp because these guys don't even go to One Love Church. My main complaint is simply this: If you're feeling SICK, please stay home. Tonight, this shivering woman with an obvious FLU (coughing and wheezing and shivering) should have stayed home. I say this as someone who got terribly sick at Calvary Chapel Montebello and was in bed for 2 weeks (never happened before) because the exact same thing happened. The BIBLE is very clear: "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7:12. So if you have the FLU, please stay home or at least wait in the lobby. This selfish woman ruined a beautiful worship evening my wife and I planned for tonight. The sanctuary is extremely tight and packed in so we couldn't move to another area and had to leave. We won't be coming back. As the Body of Christ, let's do better to care for those around us - again meaning if you're SICK, please show love to those around you. When my family and myself first came to One Love at their Sunday celebration at 10:30am we already heard and loved Pastor Waxer teachings. Our former church had great people but we felt the Lord lead us to find another church where we could fully commit to their vision and mission. So far my daughter loves the children's ministry. We have spoken to some of the elders of the church. Currently we are trying to get connected and involved with the church more. Since my husband and myself just turned 30 we wanted to check out Relavant (service for our age group)on Friday night at their K.Hale location. My husband and I visited One Love Ministries after hearing how it seemed to be a thriving church. However, we both left feeling offended and very much outsiders. The pastor thought it was funny to imitate an Asian accent "4 dolla". We looked at each other- did he really say that? A little later, he talked about Timothy, a follower of Christ, whose mother was Jewish and whose father was Greek and the next thing you know, there was a picture of a hippy-like Jewish person and a psychedelic van with Jew and something else on it. What he said was wrong and racially insensitive. We went looking to be inspired and left feeling offended. read more

I used to go to One Love with my whole family. The teaching was so solid, Pastor Waxer is amazing at explaining and teaching the Word of God. Now 3 years later, sad to say I don't attend anymore and neither do the rest of my family. Everyone there was so friendly in my experience but to my family their friendliness stopped. I love this church, I love the teaching, the extra programs like the nursery and the toddler classes and the life groups. I understand that no church is perfect but after 3 years of constant attendance and attempting to fellowship with no fruit, my family made the decision to fellowship and hear God's word elsewhere. I just wish the Ohana shared the love, His love, Agape love. Again, I love Pastor Waxer, I still listen to him from time to time online. And hey, maybe Our Father didn't plan for my family and I to be there. Right now, my husband and I attend South Shore at Koko Marina and it has produced so much fruit. Praise God for His goodness! Also too this could just be our experience and it could be irrelevant to everyone else reading this. read more

5 Stars and blessed to call it my church! Pastor Waxer serves up sound doctrine and Matt and the praise band are my favorite praise band ever (and that says a lot)! One Love has helped me grow in my spiritual walk with Jesus and has provided me with fellowship with other believers. Wed nights are on the Auahi St location @ 07:00 pm. We do Old Testament studies here which are the bomp diggity. My friend says that most churches do studies in Acts and Romans and you only hear of Old Testament stuff if you were fortunate to be saved as a kid and hear it in Sunday School. Wed nights are actually my favorite because we get to study Old Testament stuff and it's in a smaller, more intimate setting. Sunday mornings are at Kaimuki High 0800 and 1030am. We do New Testament studies during this time. Sunday school is for the 10:30 service time and the kids are doing a sports camp for the summer. What can I say, this church is the best I've been to. I've been here for almost 7 years now and that a lot, being that I hardly used to attend church up until I went here. Doctrine- solid bible teaching and meaningful application. This church is not ashamed of Jesus nor the Gospel. Teachings- are meant to convict and equip you to face the worldly opposition toward the Gospel and Christianity Opportunities to serve- where the Body of Christ is so are the broken. You don't have to count on the type of ministry to serve you, because the environment here encourages us to serve each other. Awesome church. Qualify my review and say this is my newcomer's impression: Very friendly people at the church. Greeters are genuinely friendly. Worship is unpretentious (opposite of a large production that is characteristic of Hillsong style worship/rock concert-esque churches). Communion/tithing/offering done on the side and is not obligated. Pastor Waxer has such a deep understanding of the Word and I respect his desire to work through scripture verse by verse. He presents Greek/Hebrew translations when they enhance the meaning of the passage. He's also very entertaining. Gospel is present in every message, and both times I've visited, Pastor Waxer has invited the audience to accept Christ. On the side of the auditorium are two tenets of the church: teaching the word, and equipping the saints. The instruction here is really top-notch and I enjoy it a great deal (intellectually, spiritually, personally). Am looking forward to going to small group to explore more the church community. read more

Intitally my mom introduced me to One Love, I was attending another church. She worked with the Prayer Ministry, urged me to come check it out, I began calling One Love my Home Church. Often at the Kaimuki HS Theatre, I would walk in and the message brought up tears, not sad but more like my spirit opened within and I was taking things of the messages into my heart. This was the beginning of my relationship with One Love spanning over a Decade. Today I attended Easter Son Rise Service I missed my One Love Peeps I mostly fellowship with a ministry closer to my moms now or nearer by where I currently work and live as well. This church is my Ohana in Christ and I am so blessed to be apart of it. I found out about One love on TV when I was having a difficult time in life. I watched Pastor Waxer preaching and it was about exactly what I was struggling with. It was amazing how it happened. I found out where they were and it was back when they were in the high school. They are now in the ministry office and I drive from Wahiawa every weekend etc., to go here because I know it's where my family and I belong. Waxer's preaching is sound doctrine and he is a very uplifting person. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a church to become apart of to please give One Love a try! While on vacation in Oahu we went to One Love for Sunday morning service and were so blessed. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by friendly and smiling faces through an amazing worship and teaching by Pastor Tipton. He is a truly gifted teacher. One Love does tell it like it is. Some people bring "being politically correct " in and don't like what they hear. I have been attending for over nine years, and have known Waxer since 1991. He is as good as the best of the preachers and as a bonus does not need to "milk " the congregation for money as some "churches " ( or should I say places of business) do. People forget that "their " culture is just that : culture. It does not make it correct. Culture is to be held up to Scripture, not the other way around. Culture is nothing more than habits and beliefs people have learned to believe in. This does not supercede the Word of God. Remember about attending a church that preaches what YOU want to hear , RATHER than what you need to hear. Go to Word of L... I can't begin to describe how this church has changed my life. God led me to Hawaii for college and some friends I met in my Christian club at school brought me to One Love. Pastor Waxer teaches the Bible like I've never heard it before. I grew up Catholic, but I never truly understood God's plan for my life and what being a Christian meant until I came to this church. If you can't make it to church, I recommend watching the live-streamed services on their website! It's wonderful to have when I'm off island. There's a ministry for every age group and they even have Club Love which looks after children while their parents are at the service as well as a Special Needs Ministry! If you have a child with special needs and want to be able to come to One Love they have wonderful people to look after them. This church helped me to strengthen my relationship with God and for that I am so grateful. read more
