First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've been to Fratton Park to see games 4 times, and just to hang out about another 7 or 8 times on top of that. I want to give it a 5 star rating so badly because I love it here so much, but I can't. It's so run down and hasn't had a really good investment in a long time. Yet it remains one of the most passionate and intimate places to watch football, right by the sea, and a wonderful destination for fans and a historic place. The amazing thing is, I've seen Pompey (they play here) play in 4 different tiers of football. Premier League (vs Oxford in the old days as a tiny kid), Championship (both home and away), League One (just a few years ago) and League Two (last year). I enjoyed all of them, but things were more intense back in the old days. I'd have given them a 5 star back then but things changed, stadiums got safer and more comfortable, and Portsmouth didn't move with the times. I'll see them play here again in the next few years, I am sure. I love coming here. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** Fratton Park is a stadium I love, so it hurts to give them less than a 5, but the stadium does need some work to modernize itm and maybe close off those sides, give it a better pitch and what not. It creates a real crazy atmosphere and I do love the way it's close to the sea and right in the middle of a neighborhood. The food isn't great, the loos are awful, and I'm sure as they rise back up through the divisions sooner or later, they'll fix the facilities here. It still holds a whopping 21k people, and deserves to be a better stadium. But if you want to know what it was like to watch Premier League football 20 years ago, you can go here and get a good taste of it. The Tudor Facade out front of Fratton Park is really cool. It's been open since 1898 which is also amazing.

There is very limited parking on matchdays, but it is within easy walking distance of Fratton train station. It holds just over 20,000 people and the fans are very close to the pitch making for a great (and often very loud) atmosphere. All four stands are now covered although, if you are sitting near the front, you may get a little wet on rainy, windy days. The facilities inside the ground are limited - toilets are not great and the food is a bit expensive - but there is a McDonalds and KFC just outside.

I love football, traveling and Yelping so I am today pleased to combine the three for my 1100th review. The stadium is quite interesting with its' location, it is right in the city centre of Cardiff, which is a rather unusual and uncommon approach with football stadiums in large cities, which normally tend to be a few miles out, this means that traffic going in and out of the stadium on a match-day might be troublesome on the best of times. The stadium here was really cool, and was modern in most ways, I really liked the inside seating and the whole look of it, even with a retractable roof, the tour was quite cool, it was a decent sized group and I learned some cool stuff about the stadium, which is set to host the Champions League Final in May/Jun 2017, meanwhile the likes of Leicester City versus FC Porto are playing right now in the Champions League as I write this review, with teams dreaming to reach here come the end of the season. The dressing rooms were not as welcoming, they were average and certainly not as nice as I have seen at other major stadiums such as Wembley and The Etihad. The tour also lost that spark, magic, because the pitch had been pulled up to make way for concrete to hold a massive dinner, which was a cool idea in practice, but along with the roof-up, it made the stadium feel dark, and more like a concert hall rather than a stadium, which ruined the atmosphere in ways. As mentioned above, the tour guide was friendly, as he was an Arsenal supporter we shared a few jokes about football, myself supporting Manchester City. The stadium store is quite poor, with multiple really old fashioned, inaccesiable lifts and it is hard to move around and start the store, which is a huge let-down for a store meant to serve the leading stadium for both football and rugby, hence all sporting events in Wales. Overall, this is a nice, cool, new(ish) stadium but still there are some issues with my visit, which need to be ironed out such as improving the modern feeling of this store, the tour experience. I feel this stadium in general deserves three stars.

First-Hand Experience: I've seen Bournemouth play in person, live, once away and once at home, although I've been to their stadium several times. I love the fact that it's near the beach and I think the fans are lovely and very friendly. I'm looking forward to watching them experience life in the Prem this coming season. Well done to them! Going to Bournemouth the city or Goldsands is always a pleasure and I'll try and see a Prem game there if I can though I bet they'll be all sold out. They were nearly full when I was here and that was a lower division game. Incredible atmosphere though, lovely facilities and great stewards. One of my fave little stadiums in the country so it gets a 5. They play in AC Milan-style colours and are originally from the lovely suburb of Boscombe in one of the prettiest loveliest cities in England: Bournemouth. It's one of my favourite cities, which was underpinned by an excellent concert I had there in 2011. If you want food in this area, go and try the Fish and Chips at Chez Fred. It might be the best fish in the country. No exaggeration. These are heady times for Bournemouth, as one of my fave teams from one of my fave towns, is heading into the top flight for the very first time. They are expected to be instantly relegated, but one thing is for sure. Things in Dorset will never be the same again. Formed in 1890, the 2015-16 season is going to be the biggest season yet in the history of the club. How exciting. It will be an absolute miracle if they stay up.

On a match day expect to see plenty of old men drinking ales and looking a bit dozy as they follow the game. When internationals are hosted their raise the capacity, though, and things get a bit noisier. It's still all a lot more civilised than a football match. International one day matches are probably the best time to experience the ground, though tickets are more expensive and go quickly. If you can try and slip into the corporate area (the big marquee, usually with a few bouncers hanging around oustide of it). Ensconced up in St Andrews, just off the Gloucester Road, being near the Rovers ground this area truly is a paradise for lovers of slightly mediocre sport. This is a small ground, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Domestic games generally attract one fan and his proverbial pooch, so the smaller size makes for a better atmosphere. And what a good buzz there is here; word is that it's one of the more popular venues with the England team as the rarity of their appearances here brings out the boisterousness in the zidered up locals. A great place to watch cricket and not too expensive either, though be sure to check the forecast before you go.

Aviva Premiership Rugby club, London Irish play here too, in a stadium located in Reading, just off Junction 11 of the M4. The stadium its-self was built and opened in the late 1990's and it is just a single tier on each tier, apart from one side where they is two. Inside the grounds, where you can pick up refreshments, it isn't the nicest of areas, and seemed a little old fashioned compared to other stadiums I have been too, such as The Etihad, St James' Park and Wembley, but it wasn't too bad either, for a Championship club and of course beating Rochdale and Hyde FC. Around the ground they its lots of posters and signs from the club's history, such as their 106 point mark they won the Championship by, the most recent promotion winning team, signed shirts, Trevor Senior's 184 goals etc, if you want to see more take a look at my pictures, they are all nice and colourful, and give the stadium a better feeling and vibe, and a better place for the fan. I was shown in the dressing rooms, somewhat, they weren't too impressive but they were not set out ready for the tour, nothing was, but still the stadium was nice, clean and quiet. I was even ended the tour with a few match programs from past Reading games, and even a historic one. This is a nice stadium, obviously it doesn't compare to most of the other stadiums I have visited, as I have visited a wide range of major stadiums: Wembley, Anfield, The Berneabu, The Nou Camp, Allianz Arena etc, and some parts of the stadium were not really impressive, and for a new stadium just felt a little old fashioned. The staff were really nice in offering me the tour though and shown me around what they could, and I can't fault that but still I feel I can only give a solid 3 stars as the stadium wasn't really impressive, and was merely average for a team like Reading.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've been to the Madejski probably 10 or more times, because it's only half an hour from my house in England (or rather my mother's), and about 45 mins from my Dad's place for that matter. It's a spanking shining new stadium which is very close to being 5 stars. I think the fact that it cost me and my friends an absolute fortune to go here at a time when the club wasn't even in the top tier, is why I can't give it 5. But in terms of facilities it is absolutely top notch. I was last here in 2014, just recently, and it was amazing. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans).
