First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've been to Fratton Park to see games 4 times, and just to hang out about another 7 or 8 times on top of that. I want to give it a 5 star rating so badly because I love it here so much, but I can't. It's so run down and hasn't had a really good investment in a long time. Yet it remains one of the most passionate and intimate places to watch football, right by the sea, and a wonderful destination for fans and a historic place. The amazing thing is, I've seen Pompey (they play here) play in 4 different tiers of football. Premier League (vs Oxford in the old days as a tiny kid), Championship (both home and away), League One (just a few years ago) and League Two (last year). I enjoyed all of them, but things were more intense back in the old days. I'd have given them a 5 star back then but things changed, stadiums got safer and more comfortable, and Portsmouth didn't move with the times. I'll see them play here again in the next few years, I am sure. I love coming here. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** Fratton Park is a stadium I love, so it hurts to give them less than a 5, but the stadium does need some work to modernize itm and maybe close off those sides, give it a better pitch and what not. It creates a real crazy atmosphere and I do love the way it's close to the sea and right in the middle of a neighborhood. The food isn't great, the loos are awful, and I'm sure as they rise back up through the divisions sooner or later, they'll fix the facilities here. It still holds a whopping 21k people, and deserves to be a better stadium. But if you want to know what it was like to watch Premier League football 20 years ago, you can go here and get a good taste of it. The Tudor Facade out front of Fratton Park is really cool. It's been open since 1898 which is also amazing.

There is very limited parking on matchdays, but it is within easy walking distance of Fratton train station. It holds just over 20,000 people and the fans are very close to the pitch making for a great (and often very loud) atmosphere. All four stands are now covered although, if you are sitting near the front, you may get a little wet on rainy, windy days. The facilities inside the ground are limited - toilets are not great and the food is a bit expensive - but there is a McDonalds and KFC just outside.

On a match day expect to see plenty of old men drinking ales and looking a bit dozy as they follow the game. With a capacity of just 8000 it doesn't ever get very noisy, with polite applause being all you'll usually here during a game. When internationals are hosted their raise the capacity, though, and things get a bit noisier. It's still all a lot more civilised than a football match. International one day matches are probably the best time to experience the ground, though tickets are more expensive and go quickly. If you can try and slip into the corporate area (the big marquee, usually with a few bouncers hanging around oustide of it). They get the best food and the quietest bar, definitely worth the risk of annoyance of a couple of bouncers for. Their is a waiter service with the food here too, which is the way a cricket ground should be experience I think. The County Cricket ground is small and civilised, well suited to watching some cricket.

Ensconced up in St Andrews, just off the Gloucester Road, being near the Rovers ground this area truly is a paradise for lovers of slightly mediocre sport. This is a small ground, though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Domestic games generally attract one fan and his proverbial pooch, so the smaller size makes for a better atmosphere. And what a good buzz there is here; word is that it's one of the more popular venues with the England team as the rarity of their appearances here brings out the boisterousness in the zidered up locals. A great place to watch cricket and not too expensive either, though be sure to check the forecast before you go.

Aviva Premiership Rugby club, London Irish play here too, in a stadium located in Reading, just off Junction 11 of the M4. The stadium its-self was built and opened in the late 1990's and it is just a single tier on each tier, apart from one side where they is two. Inside the grounds, where you can pick up refreshments, it isn't the nicest of areas, and seemed a little old fashioned compared to other stadiums I have been too, such as The Etihad, St James' Park and Wembley, but it wasn't too bad either, for a Championship club and of course beating Rochdale and Hyde FC. Around the ground they its lots of posters and signs from the club's history, such as their 106 point mark they won the Championship by, the most recent promotion winning team, signed shirts, Trevor Senior's 184 goals etc, if you want to see more take a look at my pictures, they are all nice and colourful, and give the stadium a better feeling and vibe, and a better place for the fan. I was shown in the dressing rooms, somewhat, they weren't too impressive but they were not set out ready for the tour, nothing was, but still the stadium was nice, clean and quiet. I was even ended the tour with a few match programs from past Reading games, and even a historic one. This is a nice stadium, obviously it doesn't compare to most of the other stadiums I have visited, as I have visited a wide range of major stadiums: Wembley, Anfield, The Berneabu, The Nou Camp, Allianz Arena etc, and some parts of the stadium were not really impressive, and for a new stadium just felt a little old fashioned. The staff were really nice in offering me the tour though and shown me around what they could, and I can't fault that but still I feel I can only give a solid 3 stars as the stadium wasn't really impressive, and was merely average for a team like Reading.

I hated it so much that I actually hate this stadium because of it, since this stadium is named after the Madjetski. Actually it's named after the owner, or former owner, and that's one of the reasons I'm giving the stadium 4 instead of 5, since I don't like him. First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've been to the Madejski probably 10 or more times, because it's only half an hour from my house in England (or rather my mother's), and about 45 mins from my Dad's place for that matter. It's a spanking shining new stadium which is very close to being 5 stars. I think the fact that it cost me and my friends an absolute fortune to go here at a time when the club wasn't even in the top tier, is why I can't give it 5. But in terms of facilities it is absolutely top notch. I was last here in 2014, just recently, and it was amazing. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** It's a fantastic stadium with an amazing atmosphere, absolutely gorgeous, but the price of tickets, parking, and so on, is not conducive with a stadium in a smaller city like Reading, and as much as I have a spiritual connection to Reading (due to a good concert and a car rental agency), I can't give it more than a 4. It opened in 98, it cost 50 mil, and it's right at Junction 11 of the M4. London Irish play here too. It's known as the Mad Stad, by the way. Oh, and hi Sherri.

Watching them live was enjoyable, if a little predictable (they got destroyed). I will give them a solid 3. The previous Aldershot went out of business, but in 92 these guys came along and brought sport back to the town. They play at the Recreation Ground and wear red like the evil Manchester United, hence the picture here with the girl wearing the wrong shirt but the right colours. They're currently in the Conference Premier, which is one step below the Football League. I have indifferent feelings towards them but I wish them much luck.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've watched one match at the New Den, in 2011 - it was half full which was a shock, and might be the reason why it only gets 4 stars. I'd heard about the rabid, evil Millwall fans, and seen them so many times away from home, and once in their old stadium as a younger lad. Not the case on the day I was here, but then the opponent was a lowly and unexciting adversary. It's a good stadium though, not as expensive as some of the others in London, by a long shot. I enjoyed my day, I was covered from the rain by the stands, I didn't get stabbed (people used to say that's what happened at Millwall games), and altogether I found it a lot more pleasant and also underwhelming than expected. I'll try it again for a much bigger game, one of these days... to see what the fuss is really about. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. It creates an intimidating atmosphere of course. It was built in 92 for 16 mil, and is the pride of South East London, with a capacity of around 20k. As you can see from the pictures, it's absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere is intense, but it would be better if it filled in the corners.
