We had our family holiday here last year. They have about 8 adapted chalets which are very spacious…read moreand can sleep up to 8 people. The interior decor is fantastic and set out very well, they accommodation we stayed in was a lovely lodge which was very comfortable and had 2 bathrooms and toilets as well as 3 bedrooms, a nice lounge with dvd player and French doors leading out to a veranda with table and chairs. The clubhouse is a large building but looks from the outside like an old worldly pub. It's very pretty from the outside and also the reception is in there. The food was great, reasonably priced and very homely, there was a nice area with sofas and a tv and bookshelves if you didn't want to join the main club area. Of course there was a main area with entertainment but we didn't go in there not our cup of tea but it was a large area with many tables and chairs. Plenty for the kids to do and a lovely area. Top notch management staff very friendly and you don't have to pay for the club passes.

We've just enjoyed a four day holiday at Hoburn Naish, using an 8 bed Solent Lodge. Four day breaks…read morerequire booking in at reception from 4pm on the Monday. If you require an extra key, there is a £5 deposit. The Solent lodge has a sun deck with two large green plastic tables and accompanying chair. The gate to the sundeck has a lock on it, high enough to deter small fingers. As you step into the lodge, the dining area is directly to your left (It is a tight squeeze if you are at full capacity, you'll need to keep your elbows in and you will need to pull the table out slightly before dining). The kitchen is next and the cupboards were well stocked with plates, cups, glasses and bowls. There was a full selecting of cutlery, but we found the knives we were provided with were blunt. Reception sent us a new set straight away. The lounge area had two sofas and an armchair, a fireplace, a coffee table, a colour flatscreen and DVD player. As we had a curious one year old with us, we used the coffee table to block the fireplace. There is a storage cupboard in the lounge area Through a multi panelled glass door, you will find the side door to the property and the first of the two bathrooms. This first bathroom had a toilet, sink, cabinet, mirror, sink shelf and shower. Our lodge had four bedrooms. Reception were able to provide a cot for the one year old upon request. There were two double bedrooms consisting of full wall wardrobes, two bedside cabinets, wall mounted heater, dressing table, trunk and chest of drawers. Very tight squeeze. We had a bedroom with two single beds in and the bedroom we used for the baby where there were an additional 4 mattresses piled up. The second bathroom had a toilet, sink and bath with shower screen. In the park club, you will find reception, a wall full of attraction tourist leaflets, a mini arcade, ball pit for the kids, a number of toilets dotted around, indoor bar with sports (mainly footie) on a very small tv in the corner of the ceiling, a large hall where the evening's events happen, and another pub that has a garden, dart board, pool table and 2 lane bowling alley. The arcade has ticket machines that can be cashed in for toys from the in-arcade shop, there are 2p machines everywhere, various big machines like Time Crisis 3, motorbike, car games, pool and snooker tables. There is a snack machine in the foyer next to reception. Darts has a £5 deposit normally but we had the fee waivered when the barlady couldn't find three matching darts. The bowling alley is £1.50 payable through a slot in the machine. The garden/smoking area is not sheltered. The evening entertainment at the club consists of early things for kids, kids disco, bingo, quizzes and caberet. I went to the bingo one night which was fun, £1 per book with three games in. I went at the beginning of the season so it was fairly quiet and prizes were between £10 an £30 a game. The park also has a fully stocked gym, kids pool and adult pool. You need to take your shoes off before entering the changing area. There are four family changing cubicles and umpteen individual cubicles that are too small to get in! I'm a size 12-14, so I'm not too fat to get in them! There are mens, ladies and disabled toilets. The only drawback is there are only two unisex showers that are in full view of the adult pool. I assume they think you'll go back to your lodge and use the shower there. There is a separate hot and cold shower at the end of the adult pool which you use before using the steam room and sauna. There is also a kids adventure playground on the site, a laundrette and a Nisa shop. The tourist stuff was pricey, but regular stuff was a normal price, chocolate being cheaper than back home! There is a lovely beach behind the lodge park with sand and shingle, very clear water. The route down to the beach is not buggy/pram proof and I advise you carry your little ones down there. You won't be able to drag the buggy of the shingle/rocks with ease anyway. On the way back from the beach, having taken a damned buggy, we decided to try and find a smoother route back to the lodge park. We discovered Chewton Bunny Reserve which runs alongside the lodge park. Beautiful scenery and ends by a couple steps up to the main road where you can peer down into the weir. Booking out was 10AM on the Friday morning.

Large benches looking onto the cottage-like facade make for what I imagine a gorgeous place to enjoy some Pimms in the summer. However, in the chilly December nights we took refuge inside the establishment, furnished with light-wood, bright and simply decorated. The right hand side of the inn features a wall-papered library theme with shelves of books printed onto the walls. This makes for an interesting feel of studious eating. Almost a little bit stressful after all the student hours spent in the library. The steak cooked rare was very nice indeed, virtually without fatty discard and a succulent flavor, dripping in its own slightly salty juices. It was large and came with a bit of cress and chips. The cheese board was nice as well, giving you Brie, Wensleydale, several hard cheeses as well as a pot of chutney and grapes. For the area and the quality of food it was reasonable priced and good for our group of 8. Our waitress met our inebriation with a large spot of jest and good humor. But not without sarcasm. The food came out quickly and we were given lollipops out our way out. When in the area, I would definitely return.

The pub is the only pub in the harbour and has a large carpark so access is very easy. Using a wheelchair is not a problem as the doors are large and the interior is spacious, however upon my last visit there were no disabled toilets but the normal toilets were adequate and they allow a carer to go in with you. The pub itself is decorated inside with a wonderful warm almost mexciana feel, there are warm burnt oranges next to cool blues and the welcome you receive is very warm and friendly even from the locals and other drinkers visiting. It is a family friendly pub with children allowed in right up until closing time, however don't let this put you off it's not a rowdy noisy place with kids running about it's just a good old family atmosphere. There is a small outdoor area with a few tables which has some old ships memorablilia and is wonderful on a summers evening. There is a darts board and the whole pub is full of wonderful old heavy wood tables like you'd of found in a good old English pub of the last centuries. The bar is extensive with something to make every drinker happy and there is a good food menu which will surely fill you up and all reasonably priced. Go there you won't regret it.

I don't know if they serve food anymore but when I last ate there it was excellent. Definitely one of the nicest places to drink in Bembridge and far less likely than most to be empty come winter.

Nice! On a recent…read morefamily excursion to the Jurassic Coast we stayed at the family-run Berehayes Farm Cottages. It's in a lovely area, close proximity to nearby beaches, towns (Lyme Regis, Bridport) and exploring the coast for fossils. 1. They have some darling alpacas that you can visit! Very cute (though shy, move slowly and quietly)...cool to have the opportunity to see them, our toddler was quite enthralled for 3 minutes, the longest he's ever paid attention to any one thing except picking up trash. 2. There is an incredibly well kept INDOOR pool and jacuzzi for guests to use. Quite rare for farm cottages, I'd say! They are immaculately clean and very enjoyable. If the weather is uncooperative, this is a nice backfill for an hour or two, as is the adjacent game room with pool, darts, board games, books, etc. 3. The real highlight for me was the relaxing courtyard -- each cottage is assigned its very own table with umbrella and chairs, we used this for several dinners, relaxing with a drink, etc. 4. Very kid and family friendly. Do be warned though the noise carries and kids go to bed early. Even though we have a kid, we got some side eyes due to my loud talking brother in law. It was 8pm -- kind of early to be upset about the noise! I guess this will depend on your fellow guests. There's also a small playset that younger children will like. 5. Easy parking. A nice grill can be used for preparing meals in the warmer months. Overall this was a very pleasant place to stay. The decor and accommodation are rather rustic, but what else would one expect? One other small funny thing (that I liked!) is that you pay for what electricity your cottage uses at the end of the stay. It apparently promotes conservation of power, which is a good thing -- but I have to admit the extra thing to worry about upon check out is a bit of a drag, especially when trying to get out on time with a toddler. We paid around 200 GPB/night in high season for the largest cottage (we had 3 adults and a child) and it was a good value based on others we checked out.

I believe the council are trying to put a limit on the noise and performing times and the outside area seems to be closed at the moment so no more BBQ (shame) what do you expect when you allow a block of flats to be built right behind a pub? Peace and tranquility?! Problem is people move in and then complain. Unless they are registered blind they could not have failed to spot the Great Western. So who gave planning permission for the flats then?? This is a very friendly pub and they do a nice pint of Old Speckled Hen. This real beer was named after an MG car which was used as a runaround by the staff at the MG plant and had been patched up and painted by so many different people that they called it the 'old speckled un' hence the beer! At least the British beer industry is still alive and well unlike the car industry! If you like a pub thats a bit different then try the Great Western. You couldn't be handier for the station, its across the road. Look out for the Syn City Rockers who do an excellent AC/DC and Thin Lizzy tribute.
