Red Barn Ranch - Bridesmaid's Cabin for the wedding party to get ready

    Red Barn Ranch

This was our second favorite stay at the Red Barn Guest Ranch in New Castle Colorado. Just like our…read morefirst visit, we again experienced a beautiful stay surrounded by beauty and the tranquility that we needed. Our accommodation in the "Bridal Suite" was immaculate and so comfortable. Our hosts, Luis and Kristine, surprised us with a fresh organic breakfast every morning, along with piping hot coffee and tea. We relaxed and enjoyed walking the property and seeing the beautiful horses in their pasture. One morning wild turkeys ran past our door and I managed to get some great photos. The fall is stunning for great sunsets and aspen-glow. We will be back !

Unfortunately, due to the nearby fires there was heavy smoke everywhere. The owners realized it would be unbearable to stay there and offered us a bridal suite at their recently purchased ranch which is 15 minutes away. After a few rural roads we came upon their place... OMG what a ranch! It was how one would imagine a ranch to be... white fenced sections, horses, wildlife, stables, lots of well-kept acreage with many large shady trees also many apple trees. A beautiful huge main house to one side, the bridal suite across the driveway very privately surrounded by beautiful lawns and trees with lots of shade. One of the family members took us on a tour around the 21 acres and as the ranch name suggests, they have a huge red barn along with stables, corrals, ponds, more B&B suites, just amazing! It had a perfect reception hall that opens to a vast lawn, this with a complete bar, bandstand; this is a perfect place for a wedding. The entire place was super clean and well kept. Our mornings were very relaxing... peacefully quiet but for the soothing soft breeze through the trees. Breakfast on our private patio was a treat and did I mention the delicious coffee? Luis and Kristine along with their wonderful family were so welcoming and are the warmest of hosts, one and all. We really enjoyed their company. This ranch is a perfect place for a wedding, family reunion, retreat or whatever! We look forward to coming back very soon. We loved it and you will too!

When we arrived, the check-in woman said that Hotwire had allocated our room, which had a queen bed for three people, without a sofa bed. I said this wasn't appropriate for our group size, but her suggestion was that we call Hotwire and cancel the room. This just didn't make any sense. I asked if they could change our room, but she insisted this would be an upcharge of $50. Then I asked if there was a supervisor who could clear up this problem, although this woman also passed the buck to Hotwire. I assumed they must be full that night, but no, they weren't. They were just cheap, argumentative, and irrational. After haggling for way too long, the manager finally agreed to provide us a suitably-sized room, but "just this once." WTF? This was appalling customer service. I'll add that this is a dated Holiday Inn with run-down rooms and amenities, and without a working pool. (They didn't have any gluten free options at breakfast either, so why should we pay more to receive less?) Two stars for the serene view of the river, zero stars for the absolutely dreadful customer service.

The furnishing and lamp shades were badly worn and/or torn and there appeared to be something smeared on the wall as you entered the room. When my husband checked at the front desk about getting another room, the clerk initially said there wasn't anything available. When my husband started got irritated and mentioned how nasty the room was with other hotel guests nearby, the clerk mysteriously was able to find another room. The second room was slightly better, but this place is WAY overpriced for the condition it's in!

We spent two nights here for a friends 40th birthday... it was a perfect getaway retreat. There's…read moresomething special about having to snowmobile in, you know you're in the middle of nowhere, no cell phone service, nothing but being present, enjoying the days, and snowmobiling or timbersledding out the front door. The staff here was so kind, helpful and down to earth, we were on a first name basis with everyone. There's a restaurant which serves all local farm to table food and coffee, a fully stocked bar, game room, hot tub, fire pits, super great massage chair, and we even went on a snow cat tour. Our cabin was cozy, comfortable and clean. Would highly recommend. We will be back!

I guess my purpose of never going in was that we came in on the other side of the mountain (Off of McClure Pass), and never really ventured into the "Hubbard Park" area. We always had our big wall tents, wood burning stoves, and food for the week. So I guess we never really needed to venture that way. Let me tell you we were MISSING OUT on something amazing. I ended up venturing over into that area due to the dry season, high temperatures, and the sparse amount of elk in the area that I am usually in. I got a tip from someone about a place in Hubbard Park so decided to go check it out! First the spot was amazing, and was what I hunted for the rest of the season. However, after my first night scouting the area I decided to stop in for a beer and a meal at electric lodge. First, The staff is amazing! From the back kitchen staff, the bartenders, the waitress's, the bar backs, etc! You all rock! Super friendly, great to talk too, funny to be around (I love sarcasm and they could all read that). The place was clean, warm, and rustic truly made my hunting trip feel even more amazing. The food was great (Only criticism is a little pricey, but hey supply and demand so no complaints). The beer was cold and in a clean glass so no complaints there (Also reasonably priced). The next night I ended up bringing my whole hunting crew over for dinner and some beers after our evening hunt. They all enjoyed it and we had probably some of the best brisket and smoked sausages I have had in a long long time. We all talked about looking in one year of just staying at the lodge instead of setting up our camp. It wont be an every year stay, but worth looking into every few years. However, even if we set up our own camp you can sure as heck no that we will be stopping in for at least one night each year. Great work Electric Lodge! Great work Electric Lodge Staff! This is my new hidden gem that I can't wait to tell people about!
