Stopped in to Vista Ranch and Cellars for some wine tasting. Mark was a delight to talk to. We tried quite a few and decided on the two favorites, which were the Pinot Noir and the Sparkling wine. We met several other locals and enjoyed conversation and laughs with them. The Sparkling was great!! We rarely drink sparkling, but enjoyed its flavors so much that we purchased 18 and 6 of the Pinot Noir to take back to AZ. What a LOVELY stop! We stayed overnight at Vista Ranch & Cellar, as they are part of Harvest Hosts for RV'ers. They have some wonderful varieties of wine and had their version of a rosy Moscato. Needless to say, that bottle was finished the evening my husband and I opened it! Not too sweet, but definitely a very delicious, fruity taste. They have lovely grounds for many types of special events, such as weddings, anniversary celebrations, or even a reunion gathering. This was a nice winery we decided to visit during our few days stay in the area. The Pinot noir was good enough to take a case home. This place is beautiful definitely a staple in Merced. However, they charge a lot of money for anyone to photograph on the property. I understand charging some but the amount is ridiculous. Tom was an absolute gem! We stopped by here on our way back from Yosemite. Lovely shop, with lots of local items. We sat at the bar and chatted with Tom while we did our tasting. My friend grabbed a charcuterie box for snacking. Another couple came in and got a panini. It looked so good that we split one. For $9, we couldn't pass it up. It was a perfect late lunch. The wines were delicious. I've recently gotten into drier wines and these were smooth as well as delicious. The Chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon were my favorites. After spending 3 days in Yosemite and a long drive home my friend and I saw a roadside sign advertising pizza and wine. Sold. We were greeted by Tom, who was a rockstar. He was so polite and knowledgeable and has some great stories. We each did a wine tasting which is 5 pours for $10. Waived with a bottle purchase. I came home with 3 bottles. The Vista Ranch Zin was my favorite. We sat at the tasting bar, but others came in to buy a bottle and sandwiches and went outside to a super cute area. Tons of picnic tables and private tables amongst grape vines. We ordered a turkey bacon hit sandwich and it was so good. Hit the spot along with a pre made charcuterie plate. Yum. Very nice host for tasting. Lots of red wines. Also in the tasting room they have a kitchen off to the side so you can grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine or just stop in for a tasting. There are also a lot of snacks you can buy for the road. However, having a kitchen they still had no bread or crackers to cleanse your palate between wines. Overall, it's great place for tourists coming through on their way to Yosemite or starting off your wine tasting for the greater Madera area. We were looking for a place to hold a simple dinner for 40 people. I didn't think a location as beautiful as this word even attempt to accommodate our small party. But they did and they did it with the attention as if this was a huge quinceanera or wedding or any other kind of large scale event. While on the way to Yosemite / Mariposa, my fiancé surprised me by making a stop at this winery. It was a lovely, unexpected experience. Started with a simple wine tasting.... $5, for 6 large pours... it was supposed to be only 5, but the host insisted on us trying the sparking wine. Left with bottles of the Vista Cellars Sparking- my favorite! Also got a bottle of the Las Lucas Pink Moscato, Anthony's fav.... and a bottle of the red Marchini 2014 Zinfandel..... Sweet place.... a couple of couples hanging out. Nice place to stop on the way to Yosemite.... love supporting the local wineries. They were kind in indulging us with the widdo dog. One of the great little hidden gems of Merced! I don't think I've had a wine there that I didn't enjoy. The staff is always friendly. I also absolutely love going for Summer Nights. Ada Givens had a field trip in 2018 to Vista Ranch. As school parents we went along the field trip to the Vista Cellar Pumpkin Patch. The presentations and walk through corn maze was relaxing until we arrived at the Hut and Tepee. A bunch of children huddled inside a hut and one little girl came out gored by a barbed wire. The Guide seemed upset that I would point out their negligence. The whole hut was held together with electrician's tape. Clearly should remove hut before they get sued. Went with my family to Vista Ranch today and it was perfect. Amazing staff, good wine, pizzas were delicious and the surrounding area had lots of room for kids to roam free. During COVID- lots of open air seating, and staff was very accommodating, safe, and professional. Would love to go back for a weekend chill. Ancelle was a great host! She looked after us really well. The place is very homey, nothing too fancy but the quality of the food and wine is excellent. When driving down to Yosemite or Fresno, Vista is a must stop. They are right off Highway 140 so it's fairly easily accessible. Their grounds are fairly large and host events outside that includes strung lights, outside bar, and huge wine bottle art. I was here on a Monday, one of the only wineries open that day and enjoyed their 6 tastings for $5. The wine pourer was attentive and sweet. I had to step out a few times for a work call and she was more than patient and made sure my mom was taken care of while still ensuring to not leave me out. read more

I've always tried to support local and it's great having the Vista close in distance to us since we live a bit out of town. However, since the SIP requirement started with Coronavirus we have craved eating out and are tired of cooking. My husband, daughter and I had an amazing first time experience visiting Vista Ranch on May 18, 2022. The huge garden/orchard is beautiful. It was so peaceful to walk around the ranch. Our host Momi was incredible - so warm, knowledgeable and attentive. Being from San Francisco and our first time in Merced, we were excited to enjoy the best that Merced had to offer. We had such a great time the first day at Vista Ranch that we returned the next day for more wine tasting and even brought a good friend along who drove an hour away from where she lives. I have been coming here since May of 2012. I have to say it is one of my favorite spots. As with any establishment they have their good and their bad. I'll start with the good: The Food. Well the pizza specifically. It is fresh and delicious. The veggies are home grown and I don't think you can get a better pizza in Merced. The Wine. I have tried a few of the wines. You get a free tasting with the purchase of a bottle. My favorites are the Base Camp Zinfandel and the Pinot Grigio. Delicious wines, not sweet. If you're looking for sweet go for the rosato or the Chardonnay. The Atmosphere. This is my favorite part. Between this and the wine it completely out weighs anything bad I could ever say. They have a glorious view of the sunset over the orchards, twinkling lights, a nice breeze, and on most nights a great band (tonight was jazz and it was perfect). THIS is why I come to Vista. THIS is what makes it. If this is what you seek, you've found it. Now for the bad. And there isn't much. AND I think they've fixed it. The Wait for Food. They have one wood fired pizza oven. That means when they have all the tables full and can only crank out so many pizzas, you're gonna wait. And sometimes, you're gonna wait a LONG time. Tonight was their second night of something new and I'll tell you, I've never been served so fast! Which left the next problem. I was done before I was ready to go!!! All in all, if you're looking for a nice time in a beautiful setting, this is it. Merced's own little gem. If nothing else, try it once. Go prepared to wait. Relax, have some wine. And enjoy. I am disappointed. I had heard good things from a young lady that came here with friends for country night or something. We came back together because this was supposed to be the place to be. I believe there was a Mexican cultural theme. Rather than make jokes, I will introduce the sequence of events as they occurred. - Get to front of line to pay - lady tells us that they are out of food, and that all they have left is pizza. This was fine because that's what I wanted. - They run the card. They run the card again. They run the card again. Several more card runnings later, the person running the card said they didn't think it worked and ran inside and ran it again. Then she came out and said "So it's doing the same thing there. It's weird. It says it didn't run but it probably did. You may have been charged multiple times so if so just give us a call." - We go up to ask for our food. A lady comes to us and asks us what we want. We tell her our pizzas, and she writes down "blue shirt" to remember us. - Many moons pass. We have not received any food, and the lady was nowhere to be found. As we're waiting, the bartender came to the group sitting next to us and asked them if they had gotten their food yet. The group said they did not order food, but we mentioned to him that we hadn't received ours. He ignored us, and told the group that didn't order food he'd bring them free beer while they wait for food they never ordered. - As he was leaving, we stopped him and said "hey, we haven't gotten our food yet, do you..." at this point he was tapped on the shoulder by someone else. Rather than continue and listen to us, he spoke with the person that tapped him on the shoulder, then laughed and said a few jokes, then walked away without coming back. - We stopped another young lady to ask us if she could check on our food. She goes to the pizza makers and points at us. The pizza people raise their hands up in the air and shake their heads and look upset. Apparently they had planned on not making any more pizza, I believe. The lady came back and told us that our food would be ready soon. She asked us if we would like drinks while we wait. She stopped the bartender (who happened to be serving the free drinks to the table next to us at the time) and asked him to bring us two beers. He dropped off one leftover beer because one of the people still not waiting for food decided he didn't want it. Then he said "I'll be right back with the other beer - Dos Equis okay?" We said "yep" and he left. - He never came back. We did not get the free drink for our trouble. He was talking in the back with one of the other workers, and they were laughing and joking around. - More moons passed. Still no pizza. At some point we saw a cheese pizza sitting there, along with another pizza. A third young lady went over and asked who it was for. They said they didn't know, so they motioned for her to just give it to anyone. She laughed and started walking away before the second young lady stopped her and told her to bring it to us. She brought them over. The first one (cheese) was correct. The second one (meat) was not correct. We mentioned to her that it was the wrong one and she smiled and went back and got another one that happened to be done and brought it over. - The table next to us asked the lady that brought it over if they're still making pizza. She responded with "No, we're out of food. We just decided to do them a favor" motioning to us. Then she walked away. We left soon after. Really, just terrible all around. Potentially charged multiple times, out of most food, extremely long wait, ignored by several waitstaff, no free drink as promised, two hours until we got our meal and then telling the table next to us that they "Did us a favor" which really is the only reason I'm even bothering to write this review, because ... wow. The only think keeping this above 1 star is that my lady's experience a few week's prior was great. Many people seem to like it here, so there is a very good chance I'll give it another try and update the review later. This was a horrific first impression though, and at the end of the night my partner was more upset than I was because she couldn't believe how bad the experience was and was looking forward to me liking it. I don't like writing bad reviews, but think of this as me doing Vista a favor. read more

We stopped here on a whim while driving back from Yosemite and really enjoyed ourselves. It's a great location right on 140 and they're tasting room is open 'til 6pm, so a lot of you who frequent Yosemite can make this a pit stop in either direction. We did Half Dome and were really sore/exhausted driving back. As soon as we saw the sign, we spontaneously pulled in to stretch our legs; we were immediately taken by the inviting layout. Vista Ranch & Cellars doesn't try to be big and fancy like so many other wineries, they keep it homey, simple, and family oriented for the Yosemite travellers. The set-up around the tasting house is like a big, country yard filled with picnic tables and a giant BBQ - I loved the feel. The inside wasn't very big, but there were a couple of tables and a long wine bar (you could do your tasting at either). Lots of neat crafts and nic-nacs to look at, some great snacks (buy some of the Celtic Sea Salt Caramels or Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels ... Soooo friggin' Good!), and more of the "home" feel you find in the yard when you arrive. The price was super reasonable at $5 for 5 tastings, and they waive the fee if you buy a bottle (seriously, that's a great price!). The gal doing wine service was smart, fun, and knowledgeable about the wines. She was also good with the pours (I hate stingy tastings where they pour so little it almost disappears when you sniff the glass). In the end, our favorite was the sparkling wine - really wonderful and refreshing! We left with two bottles of that, plus some zinfindel (mostly because of the Half Dome label; it's a great souvenier for those who've just finished the climb!). Next time you're on 140 travelling to or from Yosemite, stop in and check them out; it's a fun place to stretch your legs. read more
