Physical therapy told my husband and I that I would never walk again and stated that I really neededto be trained to live in a wheelchair. To make a long story Short, I am now an outpatient physical therapy. Though I spend time in a wheelchair, I am learning to walk and will be able to do so with a walker independently. Additionally, the medical Director came to my husband and I and told us that I was dying, and should be placed on hospice. that was two years ago. All of my doctors are completely confused as to why he would've came to that conclusion. When we refused hospice, and refused to accept that I could not be taught more independent living, they discharged me. The facility itself is beautiful. It is clean and well-managed. However, they did not provide what I needed from them. Have they done so, I believe that I would be further along than I am now. Again, the good news is that I am progressing dramatically at this point.

After my 90+-year-old mother was hospitalized months ago, the hospital recommended that she not…read moreimmediately return to her assisted living facility, but instead, they said that she should go to a rehabilitation facility. It was arranged for her to go to Lorien Mays Chapel. I am writing to tell you that Lorien Mays Chapel was very disappointing and that my mother dramatically deteriorated there. Although they say the right things and have a lot of staff with all sorts of titles, they are really not set up to manage elderly women with dementia. They put her on a vigorous regimen of PT and OT which wore her out and there appeared to be a complete disconnect between their administrative staff like the dietician and their floor staff. In fact, the latter were more concerned about their break times and getting food from the small luncheonette there than with my mother. Lorien Mays Chapel has a good reputation and I think that for relatively healthy young to middle aged men or women who just need a little PT or OT, it is probably fine. However, for older individuals who need more care and attention, in addition to PT and OT, Lorien is not the place to send them. Seeing my mother deteriorate so quickly at Lorien, we managed to get her out of there relatively quickly - weak, very disoriented, and on oxygen 24/7. After returning back to her assisted living facility where they are better setup for her issues, she is much stronger and active again.

I've had a very concerning experience with Pivot Physical Therapy, involving patient safety, staff…read moreconduct, and billing practices. Following an aquatic therapy session, I experienced a fall shortly after leaving the clinic due to instability. There was no reassessment of my ability to walk safely before I was discharged from treatment that day. This never happened after any of the other appointments either, although having shown MRI findings to the therapist of ligament injuries in my ankle being treated. After being medically cleared to resume therapy today after a week off, I called today to schedule a new appointment. During that call, the receptionist and a physical therapy assistant were rude, dismissive, and confrontational. I was told that I would not be allowed to continue therapy unless I paid a $40 cancellation/no-show fee related to a same-day appointment that had been scheduled immediately after my fall. That appointment was scheduled less than two hours out, while I was injured. At the time, I stated that I would try to attend, but that my ability to do so depended on whether I could walk safely. I ultimately could not ambulate safely and did not attend. Despite this, payment of the fee is now being required as a condition of continuing care. Being spoken to rudely and pressured for payment in order to access medically necessary therapy, particularly after a treatment-related injury, was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic to patients who need clear communication, reasonable accommodations, or patient-centered care--especially following an injury. A formal complaint was also filed today to their corporate office.

The director of nursing was very pleasant and personable. She gave us a good tour and explained everything very thoroughly which was nice. But I went to tour with my father and the rooms are small and don't have closets. I was still willing to move my father there due to the urgency, and because of how accommodating the director of nursing was. Kenny just pushed us off to her saying he had another client, and talked more about himself than the facility or residents. Then when I followed up about a week later and email questions he called me and stated he didn't have time to answer the questions because he's way too busy. Wow! Anything would've been better than saying that to me. I'm busy too! But saying you're too busy to answer a question about my loved ones care and pricing of your facility is disgusting and rude especially coming from a Veteran. Don't even waste your time, gas or money here! And if the facility is seeing this, give the director of nursing a raise !

However, I felt traumatized by my treatment by a previous PCP there, her medical assistant and the office staff. All seemed careless, marginally competent at best and indifferent to whether I lived or died if it required any time, attention or effort on their part. It did not appear to be anything personal. The whole experience felt totally impersonal. This was the Woodholme office, which seems horribly poorly managed with zero quality control standards. No one ever answers the phone. You have to leave a message. Maybe they call you back within 24 hours, maybe they don't. I don't think I ever got any response to any messages sent through the patient portal to my previous PCP. I once had a telehealth appointment scheduled with her, used the link the office sent me and waited about 45 minutes without her showing up. Tried calling the office. No one answered, as usual. No one responded to my voicemail. She finally called me several hours later and claimed the staff had some problem processing my insurance. God forbid they treat me without making sure the insurance claim went through. Nevermind that my insurance hadn't changed since my previous visit and no one else has ever mentioned having this problem. I was very confused, frustrated and disappointed by the process and the lack of respect it displayed for me as a patient, especially since no one called to let me know what was going on or to check whether I could be available later. I got a perfunctory apology and the sense that my PCP did not think this was any big deal. Just one bad experience among several over a couple of years before I fired her. Should have done it sooner. Until recently, I also had a specialist at the Woodholme office, but she left the practice and wasn't allowed to tell her patients where she was going. She referred me to a colleague, which would have been fine EXCEPT when I tried in March to make a follow-up appointment, no one was available until November! Unacceptable when I'm trying to manage a serious medical condition, had just recently been put on a new medication, and had some concerns I felt needed monitoring. Fortunately, I was able to get an appointment with a few weeks with a specialist at a different practice. I used to have a fantastic PCP and eye doctor with Clinical Associates, but both retired several years ago. Since then, things seem to have gone extremely downhill. I am giving them two stars only because I like my current PCP so much. She is in the Reisterstown office, where a real person answers the phone most of the time, voicemail messages are returned the same day and my messages through the patient portal are promptly addressed. Based on my experience, I would give the Reisterstown office four stars (have had some isolated issues with one very unprofessional staff person there or else it would be five stars) and the Woodholme office zero stars.
