I visited Visage several months back for a consultation due to an issue that I had with one of my incisors, which had a post crown, and my own dentist was sure the root had split. My own dentist suggested that under the circumstances, the tooth should be removed, and he referred me here for a consultation with a view to having a dental implant placed.
Despite having had advice from multiple other dentists who agree'd with my own dentists diagnosis, and agreed the tooth had to be removed due to infection causing bone damage, the dentist I seen at Visage suggested otherwise. Infact, he suggested instead of extracting that tooth, and placing an implant, I have all 4 of my front post crown removed, and re-root treated, then new crowns placed. The root treatment alone was quoted at £500 per tooth, and then an additional £500 plus per tooth for new crowns. This took the total quoted to over £4000, just for new crowns - a treatment approach that more than one dentist had told me, after analyzing x-rays, was unlikely to give me any form of long term prognosis. Indeed, the dentist I spoke to asked for one of his colleagues to give a second opinion on his proposed treatment plan - his colleague came in, looked at my x-rays and said it was possible, but would likely be "Dentist wizardry" - he proceeded to recommend this treatment plan! Despite me paying £70 for a consultation - the dentist's manner was quite poor - advising me that at my age I should not have these type or dental worries, and I was very young to be having the post crowns I had - this didn't really help my self esteem, at a time when I was quite stressed about losing one or more of my front teeth.
No other practice I visited charged me a consultation fee, and no other practice made me feel as uneasy about this procedure. In the end, I had my front 4 teeth replaced with an implant supported bridge, which is fantastic, and my total treatment plan cost £6000 - but the results are outstanding, and it offers a long term predictable prognosis.
I would suggest if you want any form of dental work, go to another practice where you might be treated as a dental patient, instead of a commercial customer. In all honesty, had I not been quite downbeat after the appointment, I should have asked for my consultation fee back, because I got very little from it, and feel like I was very ill advised. Thankfully I chose to go elsewhere. read more
