Privacy Breached
*******************Who has access to YOUR booking?*****************************
Do you have children that fly from one parent to the other? Do you have friends and family that know the flight number and date of your booking that you paid for?
Those people can get unlimited access to your booking, reference number and possibly make any changes or receive information such as tax invoice and itinerary details.
This is what happened to me, and the reply received from Virgin:
I booked a flight for my daughter to travel to me, did not (and never have) give her father the booking reference number. I have to give dates and flights, otherwise she wont be on the flight. (How many people do you tell excitedly of your date and flight number?)
Again: I never gave him the reference/booking number.
He then phoned Virgin and with minimum information (such as our daughters name, flight number and date and method of payment and credit card name - big surprise it was obviously me, my booking), requested to have them change the email address and have a copy of the itinerary and receipt sent to him.
These booking details are obviously very sensitive, I have never given the reference number or the price of the flights as:
A) I do not have to, its not in any court orders, and
B) It helps to keep the peace to give minimal information.
Obviously he did not change the email back, as when I tried to get the itinerary re-emailed to me, it didnt work.
I then phoned Virgin, who advised me the email I provided was changed, but they couldnt tell me what it was. On my booking.
I am obviously using a different facebook account than my real one to help further protect my identity at this stage, however I consider this a serious breach. Their privacy policy states that they will only speak to the person who made the booking, but it is terribly, terribly wrong.
This is the response I received:
"Thank you for contacting us with your enquiry regarding privacy.

In accordance with Virgin Australia's Privacy Policy, the request was undertaken by the GCC agent after the appropriate verification was ascertained. I didnt even get a name from the email response.
I requested information regarding the 'verification methods' in my original email, however this was not addressed. It seems like pretty basic info only is needed to get access to someones booking.
