I stayed at a hotel nearby, and visited this gym recently. I went to Gymbox earlier in the week,…read morebut I found it significantly underwhelming compared to this gym. First this gym is 24 hours, so props to that. Second, it has 2 floors, a ground floor for mostly cardio and the lower level for weight training and a crossfit/functional weight area. The price is reasonable too, but the sign-up process is pretty tedious. Because the facility is so automated, so have to enter a code to get someone to show you around the place. There's a couple of kiosks available to sign up, but I recommend just signing up via the website if possible. I didn't understand how to get into the place until I had it explained to me, since I come from the US, where they have no such automated door system in place. Apparently you enter in a code, press the OK button, and you step inside the pod, and the other side will open when the first side closes. In addition to being more automated, it also reduces the airflow from the outside, which I presume indirectly saves them air conditioning and heating, though the airflow actually might be a drawback when you go downstairs to do barbell / free weight training, because it kind of smells slightly. On the whole, considering it's in London, and the alternatives are simultaneously more expensive and smaller, this is actually a good deal. But even though the weights are re-racked (which doesn't happen all the time stateside), they were all in the wrong place. It's almost like people just put it wherever there was space, no matter whether it was even a matching or pair space for the dumbbells. But once again, for the price and location, this is really small potatoes. I could see myself going here more often if I were staying here longer for a visit.

In favour of the latter are the following elements: the 20metre pool cleanliness Power Plate beauty room friendly staff towels on arrival so you don't have to bring your own decent size of locker shampoo and shower gel in the showers, in case you forget your own (okay, it's far from quality stuff but it's certainly better than nothing) plenty of hairdryers and grooming space Mostly, I live for the pool, where they play restful classical music and where windows let in natural light, making this quite a pleasant space until the doofus in front of you splashes the pool in your face with over-zealous kicking.

The equipment is reasonable but the whole place feels like cramped - you can stretch a bit and reach the ceiling from the treadmill! It is relatively easy to get to the machines so not too much competition for resources but I find it strange that the strength equipment is limited. The good part: there is a sauna, steam room, shower cubes are clean, there is a small swimming pool and a cafe. The down side: again - size, staff is not really helpful; for 70 pounds per month they don't give full towels but a sweat towel only so it's not good value for money at all! I was told that for a full towel I have to pay 6 pounds per month extra but then again with Virgin is like this - X pounds for this, Z pounds for that on top of the already high price. In the US for 90$ you'd get an excellent gym with everything!

Price for the gym only is expensive at £65/ mth and the spa use is more expensive. Spa and gym membership is £90/ mth and include access to steam room, sauna, solarium, and even a snow room, which is quite novel. Overall the facilities are pleasant and the staff are nice, however the price is quite high, but then if you attend regularly it is worth it.

Not only do you have to get a card you have to sign in. Sometimes you get in line and wait! Who needs that extra hassle. Then when you leave, you have to go back to the 3rd floor and get the card with your name on it again. Wait, wait, wait. - they don't listen! The staff at the counter don't take any notice of issues in the gym. - no one cleans up the gym during the day - so towels are laying around, weights lying everywhere - no liquid cleaner or paper in the dispensers to clean the equipment before and after you use it - yuch. I asked 4 times, then finally brought the liquid bottles to the counter on the other floor for them to refill. Seems they can't be bothered - machines don't work and stay that way. Not regularly maintained. Signs sit on them for ever. - lots of the tv screens don't work - the room itself is really quite small yet they charge £65/month - the steam room and sauna are not part of the gym membership - you have to pay a lot extra to enter the spa area. - the staff use the changing rooms as their changing rooms! Not cool. - the music OMG they either have no music or they put it on a radio station and turn it up loud. Ever try to work out with someone's voice talking loudly on and on - not music but the chat in between. Really cheap. - If you talk to the manager, Ludmela, she just says, "It's policy" to go through the sign-in/out regamorole. Yes, they are looking for someone to look after the gym! So they didn't say that when I paid up for 3 months. GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS

I have been a loyal customer of Gym Box, Westfield for some years, as I like how it is a bit more upmarket than other gyms and I am happy to pay the higher Membership.  I have found the gym to be friendly by both staff and members, motivational atmosphere, great equipment and shower/ sauna facilities. I have never had a bad experience I have been paying £20 monthly for locker hire for 1 year, which may I add is the cost of a Pure Gym Membership. In this locker, I had £600 worth of items inside - brand new Adidas clothing with tags, trainers, toiletries, underwear, , weightlifting belt, weightlifting gloves, Cobra grips, supplements, etc some of which were items that I had just bought from Westfield. One day I went to the gym as normal and when I got to my locker, my padlock was cut open and all contents inside were missing. It turns out that the staff mistakenly cut open my locker. I was never notified about this until I found this myself. When I contacted the staff, I was told that it was an admin error, which meant they didn't add my locker to the list of permanent lockers. When I asked where my belongings were, they confirmed that they had given the items to charity. I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate, as there were a lot of sporting apparel inside my locker, but I can only go on what I am told by the staff members... I have asked to be compensated (in either a cash swap or additional free 12 months Membership) for my belongings, which totalled over £600 but they have refused and offered me three months membership. I find this utterly cheeky and does not reflect the value of the stolen items, whatsoever. This is less than half the value of my missing belongings. I am really upset that I am being treated like this and I do not feel like a valued member, considering I have been a loyal customer for some years. I have been completely understanding that a mistake was made, and I am only asking for them to rectify their own mistake. This back and forth has been ongoing since August, and it is now November with nothing more offered as compensation than a few months free membership which costs them nothing as it has no outlay or impact on overheads. I would love to have this resolved to my satisfaction as soon as possible as it has been ongoing for 3 months. I want to be able to train at the gym I love with no animosity and knowing that I am a valued member by the company.

Yep living near the Park is paying off nicely at the moment - my new local council swimming pool is none other than the Aquatics Centre! It's been open to the public for the last few weeks and I have to say it's a pretty special venue - I still get tingles every time I walk in. It's £4.50 per swim session for an adult and there's an easy peasy online system to book in advance. There are 2 full size pools inside - the Competition Pool for the hardcore swimmers and the Training Pool where they separate the lengths into two 25m sections. Personally I found a 50m pool to be ridiculously long in real life (my superwoman stamina is a err work in progress) so I tend to do laps in the 25m lanes. You choose a pool and a start time online but it's pretty lax once you're in, and you can stay as long as you like. The water is a nice slightly warm temperature and it's usually a uniform 1.2m depth all the way along (though somehow they can change the depth of different sections - the mind boggles!). It's not all lanes - there are also sections of the pool roped off for 'fun' as well as swimming lessons. Also saw signs for a total wipeout stylee 'Splash Time' for kiddies at weekends that sounded like great fun if anyone wants to lend me a child?! The reason it misses a 5th star is that the changing rooms and shower facilities are just not that great. It's spacious yes and there are plenty of cubicles, hairdryers and lockers, but the layout is a little confusing (quite a wander from the lockers to the female showers), they seem to have too many staff/cleaners milling around not doing much, and the showers themselves seem temperamental and need you to wave a hand past every 3 seconds. Is this how Michael Phelps showered?! (*pauses to enjoy the mental picture*) Ahem. Yeah I expected better. So remember to bring your own towel+toiletries, a plastic bag for your wet cozzie (I haven't spotted a drying machine yet) and a £1 coin for the lockers. And please only tell your special friends - the nicest thing at the moment is that it isn't too busy on weeknights! See you there :)

So it's a very good pool, but come there for exercise only and not hoping for a full spa experience!
