I stayed at a hotel nearby, and visited this gym recently. I went to Gymbox earlier in the week,…read morebut I found it significantly underwhelming compared to this gym. First this gym is 24 hours, so props to that. Second, it has 2 floors, a ground floor for mostly cardio and the lower level for weight training and a crossfit/functional weight area. The price is reasonable too, but the sign-up process is pretty tedious. Because the facility is so automated, so have to enter a code to get someone to show you around the place. There's a couple of kiosks available to sign up, but I recommend just signing up via the website if possible. I didn't understand how to get into the place until I had it explained to me, since I come from the US, where they have no such automated door system in place. Apparently you enter in a code, press the OK button, and you step inside the pod, and the other side will open when the first side closes. In addition to being more automated, it also reduces the airflow from the outside, which I presume indirectly saves them air conditioning and heating, though the airflow actually might be a drawback when you go downstairs to do barbell / free weight training, because it kind of smells slightly. On the whole, considering it's in London, and the alternatives are simultaneously more expensive and smaller, this is actually a good deal. But even though the weights are re-racked (which doesn't happen all the time stateside), they were all in the wrong place. It's almost like people just put it wherever there was space, no matter whether it was even a matching or pair space for the dumbbells. But once again, for the price and location, this is really small potatoes. I could see myself going here more often if I were staying here longer for a visit.

This gym had a much needed refurbishment at the start of the year, sadly the new colour scheme is…read moregrey....and grey....with splashes of red here and there....oh how I long for the bright colour scheme of old! I've been a member of this gym for about 7 years now (you wouldn't think it to look at me!) and things have definitely changed. Sadly not all for the better. The childrens pool seems to be out of order a few times a month (not a big deal to me, don't have kiddies but can see it being a deal breaker if you get junior all the way there and they don't have the fun pool to play in!). Changing rooms are kept pretty clean - you need to have a padlock for your locker - and they've tried to keep an area of the changing room child free....though sadly most of the kiddies (and their grown ups!) don't seem to be able to read the sign.... A victim of the refurb was the ladies weights area. I'm not sure why, it was pretty well used. Clearly the spin studio and 'skill zone' areas were far more important to them so now we just have to put up with being amongst the grunty men while we tone our muscles....another downside is that the weights machines do feel somewhat cramped together now as the space has been reallocated for other uses. The upside - there are lots of treadmills (though at peak times - like Monday evenings - you'll be lucky to get straight onto one!), bikes, cross trainers and rowing machines....the spin studio is now enclosed so you don't have to hear the instructor waffling on and on nor have two different types of music trying to seep through your headphones! The skill zone has new and very entertaining trixster bikes (simulates a mountain bike course for those of you afraid of the outdoors like me...) TRX training systems and a skill wall (you know, the lights come on and you have to jump around hitting them off....I dunno the proper name!). There are plenty of tennis courts (book in advance), a large pool with lane swimming, For the popular classes (like spin) you'll need to book in advance and get there early or you'll find all the bikes reserved with towels and water bottles! I haven't tried many of the other classes, the schedule isn't great for someone who can't get there til 7pm of an evening, and having had previous miserable class experiences I am wary of some of the instructors, nonetheless the classes seem popular so I guess it's just me!! Money wise you're going to pay for this upgrade in facilities! Current full membership is around £83 a month although you can sign up for a year and reduce that a little (be aware of when your cancellation date is though otherwise you will automatically get rolled over for another year!).

And their kids facilities are great. Both creche and classes. Current favourite new toy there is the Trixter Xdream videogame cycle - you have a videogame screen in front of you, and you race against computer generated competitors or real people. Resistance decreases and increases according to gradient, terrain and gears. I should be there now, really, racing against the machine - instead of slumped here, writing about all the food I've been eating.

They organise a great event with fireworks in the fall. Lots of courses and classes. Gym is clearly where they spent most in recent years. Lots of machines etc. As they say on Zoopla "in need of updating" (the hallways have needed fresh varnish for at least 3 years, the changing rooms for about 5y, the small child playing area was probably used by the staff when they were young...). The food is often disappointing and slow. Especially if you eat in the formal restaurant where you often wait 50+ minutes for food. So much hardly anyone eats there anymore. All in all good but well below its potential. The place feels like it would benefit from a manager that is more visible/present and makes you feel like he/she cares.

I did write to complain, but have never even had a reply. Very disrespectful, and poor management. I have to say that the therapy area is down at heel. The loo is in need of redecoration, the waiting room is full of mismatched second hand furniture, and once there were two old workmen(?) sleeping and literally snoring on the chairs while I waited for my appointment. Signs for no mobile usage are often ignored. I have also used the cafe there, which reminds me of the student cafes of the 1970s, a hodgepodge of decor sourced from jumble sales. The photos on the website are exceedingly flattering! The food is OK, Vegan, but don't expect any service, let alone service with a smile, it's all DIY and pay upfront. And rather like Starbucks, the best seats are hogged for hours by people on their laptops, nursing a cup of coffee. There is a carpark, although I have not used it. Apparently you pay extra for that. There are tennis courts, but I have no info on those. The whole club seems to be a bit run down and poorly maintained, with little investment. It's a pity, as it could be a pleasant location. I have not been inside the gym, but a passing glimpse inside it appears to be choc a bloc crammed full of equipment. I have heard the pool described as grungy. My overall observation is that this is a club for the undiscerning young, who will put up with poor maintenance, and who don't expect any respect from staff for paying clients. It's all a bit "matey", so not at all what more mature and upmarket clients are used to. If I were looking for a gym, I would look elsewhere, there are plenty more in Chiswick.

Recent refurbishments have been made to all areas except poolside but I imagine it would cost a lot and cause a lot of hassle. Maybe it's being worked on. I usually go for a casual workout followed by the spa and always get to use the equipment I need. Only thing I would advise is better customer focus. Ten years ago the personal trainers would say hello and front of house would greet you by name and say a farewell, but not since rejoining this year. Otherwise it's a fantastic club.

I have been a loyal customer of Gym Box, Westfield for some years, as I like how it is a bit more upmarket than other gyms and I am happy to pay the higher Membership.  I have found the gym to be friendly by both staff and members, motivational atmosphere, great equipment and shower/ sauna facilities. I have never had a bad experience I have been paying £20 monthly for locker hire for 1 year, which may I add is the cost of a Pure Gym Membership. In this locker, I had £600 worth of items inside - brand new Adidas clothing with tags, trainers, toiletries, underwear, , weightlifting belt, weightlifting gloves, Cobra grips, supplements, etc some of which were items that I had just bought from Westfield. One day I went to the gym as normal and when I got to my locker, my padlock was cut open and all contents inside were missing. It turns out that the staff mistakenly cut open my locker. I was never notified about this until I found this myself. When I contacted the staff, I was told that it was an admin error, which meant they didn't add my locker to the list of permanent lockers. When I asked where my belongings were, they confirmed that they had given the items to charity. I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate, as there were a lot of sporting apparel inside my locker, but I can only go on what I am told by the staff members... I have asked to be compensated (in either a cash swap or additional free 12 months Membership) for my belongings, which totalled over £600 but they have refused and offered me three months membership. I find this utterly cheeky and does not reflect the value of the stolen items, whatsoever. This is less than half the value of my missing belongings. I am really upset that I am being treated like this and I do not feel like a valued member, considering I have been a loyal customer for some years. I have been completely understanding that a mistake was made, and I am only asking for them to rectify their own mistake. This back and forth has been ongoing since August, and it is now November with nothing more offered as compensation than a few months free membership which costs them nothing as it has no outlay or impact on overheads. I would love to have this resolved to my satisfaction as soon as possible as it has been ongoing for 3 months. I want to be able to train at the gym I love with no animosity and knowing that I am a valued member by the company.
