LA Fitness seems to be offering a 5-day trial pass at the moment - I guess in theory that would give them even more opportunities to close you! I booked mine in the morning and was in the gym at 1:30pm. After being told to wait for a sales rep, the manager came over and told me that someone would be over very soon to assist me. I would have liked more time to chat with the her but the sales rep came over very soon - Anyway, it was a nice touch and I'm really beginning to see that LA Fitness do take customer service training seriously. Kirsty showed me around the whole gym before letting me have my session. The only negative that I've found with many LA Fitness sales reps is that they don't know about equipment and lack knowledge about training.
The gym itself is on street level. Inside you can find about 40 cardiovascular machines, a range of Technogym weight training machines, free weights, one smith machine, a Kinetics machine, a studio for classes, a spinning studio and a stretching area. In addition there is also an 17-meter pool and a mixed-use steam room. Yes! It's very similar to their Victoria site.
Good Points: The atmosphere was positive. As with a lot of their gyms the place has been well looked after and all of the machines looked quite new. The staff members were very courteous. The gym has natural light. Although the free weights area was small, there did seem to be enough mirrors. I can also say that when I was in there I was able to use everything without much of a wait (I'm sure it gets packed after work).
Bad points: Again, I would have liked to have seen a slightly bigger free weights area and 2 Smith Machines instead of just one. They should put some mirrors by the stretching areas (also good to have them in front of treadmills - not possible here as they face the windows, which become mirrors at night). As in Victoria there is only a steam room and no sauna - I guess that they are trying to cut cost (This is a good point for the owners).
I'd say that the standard in this place is the same as LA Fitness Victoria. I was offered £51 per month for a six-month contract with a £50 joining fee. This is a special offer and normally you'd be expected to commit for 12 months at this price.
Here I have given a 3, but you can take that as a 3.5 - it's not a bad option when you take everything into consideration. read more
