I moved to Soho Gyms as it gave me a (much) cheaper alternative to the Virgin Gyms I used to be a member of. Originally I used the Clapham branch, however after moving home I now use the Covent Garden/Holborn gym as it's the closest to work
I use the gym primarily before work or at lunch times, and it is always surprisingly quiet. It's well stocked with free weights and machines (1 squat rack, 3 Smith Machines, 4 bench presses of various angles and plenty of benches and dumbbells), and there appears to be easily enough cardio machines to go around (although I can't comment if this is still the case in the evenings)
Soho do a wide range of memberships, which can be cancelled month by month (unless you pay for the whole year in advance to get a discount of 12 months for the price of 10. I did this, hence having to use the Covent Garden gym even though it's not too convenient)
The staff at both branches have always been very friendly and happy to help. The PT's appear to be very knowledgeable, and the introductory session gave me a great routine to follow
The downside: There is only one studio, with very few classes. I used to go to circuits and spin before work in Clapham, but this isn't really possible in Covent Garden.
Also towels aren't provided free of charge. It's £1.50 a day, or £7/month via direct debit. Again if you've paid for the year in advance, it will cost you £70 no matter when you decide to try and add them to your package
Summary: Well furnished, relatively cheap and quiet gym, suitable for most people's goals. Just make sure that if you pay for the year in advance, you're sure that you will remain near a branch for the entire time! read more
