After 10 years loyalty to Fitness First there was a need for a change however determining a gym or…read moresports club to attend is time consuming when thinking of cost, style of gym, trainers, equipment and other logistics. With the intention of fulfilling the mission to trial several in the local area and writing/reviewing for Yelp, I have only managed to get to Joe's Garage Gym. Here is why? Joe's Garage Gym is straightforward. Small group fitness training that is intense, rewarding and where you are always learning new skills. There are four types of fitness classes that can be easily booked online which are Cardio training, Conditioning, Strength training and boxing. These classes rotate weekly. The gym community is unique to Joe's Garage Gym and the fitter members in the gym are encouraging and not intimidating which makes for a good culture and gym environment. There are also classes for kids. Joe Bonington is hands on with every aspect of his gym and provides a wealth of experience in Nutrition, Health and Fitness. He is a presenter, facilitator, public speaker and leadership coach and has a network of fitness industry contacts that can assure you to meet all your health and fitness goals.Si Bennett is his Strength and Conditioning coach and certified Power/Weightlifting and Boxing coach. Both are personable and love seeing you progress with results as much as you do. Trek and Altitude training and Personal training is also conducted at Joe's Garage Gym and since being there I have witness members undertaking Ultra marathons, a Kilimanjaro trek and presently a fellow gym member is racing across the North Pole. Yes I have yet to experience and review Xtend Barre in Mosman, Lift of Flight in Balgowlah. I guess Ive been too happy with what I now call my Gym.

My problems with Energize Health Club starts before I even get inside. Not because there's no…read moreparking (there's plenty) or I am a hater of exercise, but because it is a local business spelling it's name in an American fashion. But we'll see if the grammar freak can get past that and have a good workout. Entering the "health club" (the presence of a squash courts and onsite physio does not a health club make; you're a gym!), I'm greeted by the staple of gyms worldwide - an extremely perky receptionist who somehow knows my name. Standard behaviour. The gym itself has a fair bit to offer - its range of classes is good, and the machines are generally new and good quality. But the problem of having to wait for a machine at peak hour is quite prevalent here. Although not a weights user myself, I'm told that they are particularly troublesome at the six pm mark. The gym also has an onsite, affiliated physio - again, not personally necessary. But probably good if you're in a bind! The facilities are new, and unlike other places, there are heaps of friendly and helpful staff all over the place. But Energize Fitness has some serious competition from the recently-opened Virgin Active, which offers more machines, a pool and every class under the sun. Energize does have good parking facilities, a nice little cafe that's ideal for a post-workout coffee (skim milk, of course!), well-timed classes and an incredibly convenient location for those amongst us who live in Belrose. But the size of the gym is problematic; I would say, metaphorically speaking, that it's eyes are bigger than it's stomach.

From the owner: Energize is more than just a gym. It's community, it's fun, it's friendly and it's about people…read morejust like you who want to stay fit, healthy and active. With over 70 classes each week - ranging from Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates, all the way to Zumba, Body Combat and Functional Fitness - we've got you covered. And the best part is - they're all included in our standard membership and you don't need to book ahead. Hooray!
