This Vips Restaurant (part of a large chain) is located in the Bazilica Shopping Center on Gustavo Baz Avenue in the Ciudad Satelite / Santa Monica neighborhood. Use the underground parking and then take the moving ramp up to the plaza center. Vips is located facing the street to the left as you're coming up out of the parking. There is a Starbucks on the other side of the plaza.
I usually really like Vips. It's a couple notches above Denny's and has a family atmosphere. It's usually a good place to take the family or meet up with friends. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They offer a large variety of food, from Mexican, to American to Continental. This is a rather new location and is well maintained, clean, and has pleasant decor. My only disappointment is they have large screen TV's everywhere which to me is a distraction. I can watch TV at home. If I'm with friends I want to hear the conversation.
I really like their Mexican food. Among my favorites are the enchiladas suizas, the chicken tostadas, and the caldo tlalpeño. But they have burgers, pastas, meats, salads, and pretty good desserts too.
I visited this restaurant twice for dinner and ordered the caldo tlalpeño both times. The first time it was extremely salty as if they used twice the bouillon for the broth. I almost returned it, but was hungry and short on time. The second time it was much better. Other people seemed happy with their food, so I'll guess the over-salted soup was an anomaly. This is why I gave them an average of 3 for food quality. My experience with Vips is usually a 4.
Service was a bit slow and the servers could learn to smile. Prices are decent, low by American standards.
They have a good variety of cold drinks, specialty coffees, hot tea, and aguas frescas.
I will go here again if I am staying at the nearby hotel. read more
