After getting into the city at 4 AM, and getting some hours of sleep, we decided to get some breakfast at Maison Belen, located several minutes walk from our hotel. The place has mainly outside seating, and we were fortunately able to get a table without waiting. I ordered a cafe americano and water, while the girlfriend ordered some juice. After perusing the menu, I opted for enchiladas in red sauce. The girlfriend got scrambled eggs. The enchiladas came in a small bowl, dipped in red sauce, with avocado, bacon, and topped with salsa and sour cream. The enchiladas were not as tasty as I hoped, they were rather bland. The coffee was ok, but not too potent. The ambiance is relaxed. Mainly Polanco locals come here, no bad vibes. The customer service was ok. I checked this place out for brunch with some friends on a Thursday morning. Even though we went around 11 on a week day, it was still a bit busy. We were greeted and seated pretty immediately, but there were several parties that had to wait to be seated. Our server was very friendly and was able to make some amazing recommendations for us. They also didn't make fun of my broken Spanish which I appreciated. I ordered using their English menu and got mimosas as well as the chilaquiles. My friend got the eggs Benedict and said that it was the best she's ever had in her life. The chilaquiles was extremely flavorful and filling. The portion size was huge. A fantastic brunch in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. This place is French inspired, but with traditional Mexican dishes. Molletes we're amazing. Baguette bread with refried beans and melted cheese. CHILAQUILES we're delicious. The enchiladas were incredible. Got them "divorciadas" which is half red and half green sauce. Iced coffees for my morning started. And finished with a sweet treat if milohas- custard and fruit between thin sheets of pastry. Service was awesome and they neighborhood was great. Our first time to Mexico City and this was the first spot we hit upon our arrival, as it was a short stroll from the JW Marriott. We stopped in about 3pm, so the place wasn't busy. We brought an appetite and like to taste different items, so we ordered the Molletes con Chorizo, Hot Cakes, French Toast with bananas and Nutela and Mole Enchilladas. I also had a cup of European coffee. Service was quick and friendly and our food looked amazing. The French Toast had a unique delicious flavor- my personal favorite. I don't usually like Mole, but tasted my wife's dish and it was really good too. The hot cakes in Mexico City don't quite measure up to what I find in the states, but Maison Belen's hot cakes are about the best we found in CDMX. The Molletes were good, but could have used a little more flavor. The coffee was ok. The area was pleasant. 4.75 stars for me. We will go back when we return. read more

We had been in CDMX for a few days and had not had chilaquiles, so the hunt was on. Our first choice was no longer serving them past breakfast. So we walked a bit further down the street and found this gem. Sat outside on their colorful, pretty patio. It was little breezy, but a nice place to watch the world go by. Got three orders of chilaquiles, and one huevos rancheros. All were delicious. We had both salsas-divorciados, eggs, chicken, steak. 10/10. Steak was super tender, as was the chicken, the red and green salsas were excellent, we preferred the green. For drinks we had an affogato, why not combine a dessert and drink-yummy! 8/10 . My daughter had the hot chocolate with cardamom which was perfection 10/10. After our meal, the kids got some pastries next door and nearly put themselves into a food coma of deliciousness. Essence of French in the heart of Polanco. I ordered the octopus and shrimp carpaccio. While I was waiting I was served a complimentary basket of French baguette, along with green and black olives and Pate! It was delicious! The olives were not too salty at all. Of course that was all washed down with Victoria beer; which I had not had before, and was recommended by my server; A perfect match, and Bullseye on his part. Fantastic! His name is Carlos! When I was done with the first basket another one replaced it automatically and of course I asked for another Victoria :-) This is the France I remember from my childhood mixed with the best of Mexico. :-) I was just walking by! I had no intention or idea! What a find :-) When the carpaccio arrived I was again blown away by the perfection of the dish. Simple, elegant, so French, and so Mexican. It was an explosion of taste in my mouth. Spices, heat, sour, just the right amount of salt, and pure delight! The slightly tougher texture of the octopus carpaccio offset by the softness of the shrimp and avocado! Honestly that was enough food! But the desserts were calling, and unfortunately I have excellent hearing. For dessert, I picked French press coffee, with the traditional Almond tart. The coffee was magnificent, less acidic than our coffee in the US and very aromatic. The tart was subtly sweet, and light for a tart. This little cafe is the perfect start to any morning! Nestled in next to the local Saturday market, this French cafe serves a range of coffees, teas, lattes and baked goods. In fact, for a cafe, their menu is quite extensive. Along with what you expect from a cafe, they also serve some drinks you wouldn't expect (like delicious lassis) and a selection of very good traditional Mexican breakfasts. My recommendation is that you try their always warm and fresh croissants, which come with a side of butter (ew) and delicious cherry-blackberry jam. Guaranteed to melt in your mouth. The service is always prompt and polite, and while sometimes the new staff can be prone to error, they're always very good at fixing the situation as fast as possible. The serving portions are on the smaller side (which I personally prefer) but are still well priced. Finally, this cafe is also a bakery! So if you live in the area and have company coming over, it's a great place to dash out to in order to grab some croissants or a selection of sweets. The atmosphere was cute and would be a perfect brunch place. The staff seems a bit preoccupied and even with the wait and amount of customers, a little off putting/rude. I appreciate their COVID precautions though. Once I was finally seated after 45 minutes they never brought a menu or a code to scan. Went there for a quick lunch. The salad-pear, blue cheese etc was more like a side dish and small at that. Nothing special about the croque monsieur au saumon-small that's all. Water comes only in bottles-even in France you can choose to have a free pitcher of water. Expensive at 2€ a small bottle. As we weren't over the moon we gave only a 10% tip.
