Shift manager (beard guy) was very knowledgeable and hospitable. These days customer service is usually lacking but not here.

This was me and my husband's first time here, but it was a great visit. They practice social distancing, but alot of ppl didn't have ok their face masks. We did though. This is a older movie theater, and family owned. Nice young employees at the concession stand and ticket booth. Reasonable prices for tickets, and snacks. We went to watch Spider-Man and it was a great movie. We ordered a large popcorn, 2 drinks, a box of m and m's and a pretzel. Everything was good but the pretzel. My husband love pretzels, but not that one. We will definitely be back soon. read more

Went to the Roxy last night, used a gift and a coupon bought as a Xmas gift, with NO issue date, we were told we couldn't use because it was over 90 days. It was 3/29, 4 days over 90, REALLY!! When I asked and questioned the No Issue date being blank, he got lippy, $35 for 2, popcorn drinks, and the service and environment? WHAT A RIP OFF!! Explains why I've been goin to AMC in Peru, if it weren't for the gift card, I would have left after the worker's attitude, plus the popcorn was still stale, crumbs and lack of butter. I suggest to ALL, go see a movie somewhere other than the Roxy!!!! read more

I hate to give a local landmark anything less than 5 stars, I struggled to justify for stars. I will start with the bad and end with the good. The Bad - Cramped seating which can become uncomfortable, some of the screens could be replaced instead of being painted, downtown parking can be an issue on a major movie night. The Good - This theater was once hosted live performances and was then converted to a movie theater, if you like nostalgia you will love the exterior style. Even though I have some major gripes there are always improvements being made. What they lack in updates is made up in value there is not a single theater around that plays new films at these prices. I hope some day soon they invest a substantial amount of money in renovation and updates. The Roxy is major focal point of downtown and it has a lot of potential. read more

I've been going to this theater since I was a kid and saw my very first movie here with my family: E.T. My friends and I would go to Woolworth's across the street for cheap candy before seeing a flick. Yes, we lived dangerously by bringing in outside food! The location is great, street parking is available everywhere, and it's awesome that a town the size of Ottawa has its own movie theater. I just saw the Revenant here, and after an hour the seats hurt my lower back a little. The seats looked like the original ones from my youth. The screen size is adequate -- you will definitely find bigger screens elsewhere. The sound is good. But this is a local landmark and adds to the charm of Ottawa and provides locals with quality entertainment. It has installed better seats and additional screens through the years. It has snacks and friendly employees. read more

I love going to the movies and the experience of the cinema but I can't support this theater. For years they haven't tried to renovate and they have some of the worst projectors I have ever experienced at a theater. Generally the projectors will cut off, are mostly out of focus and generally wobble to the left and right giving viewers a terrible motion-sickness film experience. Seeing a film here ruins even the best film. The focus, choppiness and audio of the films are so subpar that there is no way this way the format in which a director wished their film to be presented. Without renovations and projector upgrades, this theater should no longer operate. My recommendation is to never visit this theater. read more

Decent cinema in a small town. Parking is confusing (there is a lot out back). Each theater is narrow but very long. The seats aren't the comfiest and the sound was tinney (we tested this out watching DUNKIRK). The tickets and concessions were fairly priced and you can splurge on candy and Icees. read more

This is a comfortable little town theatre. If you're looking for a screen 20 stories high this is not it. In the past it was quite run down, but they've been making a lot of improvements in the last year or so. Replacing all old seats, cleaning generally, and they've installed marquee coming soon signs outside, but there are still not posters in them. For the space they have, it's good enough. I see a couple movies a month there. The prices are reasonable, the snacks are not too pricy, the staff is super-friendly. The screens are a bit dark, and there have been occasional projection and sound problems, but the quality has been steadily improving. The bathrooms need to be remodeled next, and the parking is not great, but in a historic old town like Ottawa there is not much that can be done. All the buildings are ancient. Most townies seem not to mind the old-timey-ness. If you're an out of towner, it will either strike you as charming and quaint or disturbingly out-dated. One thing I appreciate: if they closed down to remodel, they'd lose all their revenue. So they repair and remodel during the day, and you rarely, if ever, have to be wary of construction crews when movies are playing. Some things are more important than flashy, sleek buildings and Dolby digital surround. In Peru you pay $10 for a small popcorn and $16 a person admission. You easily spend $100 for a family of four. Not everybody has much cash these days, so unless you're seeing a special effects orgy like a Marvel movie, the Roxy is just fine, and the family can have a night out less than $40. read more

This cinema is a small town spot that has tried to stay afloat for years. It is a small place with small screens & long, narrow seating. The chairs are soft but sit VERY low to the ground. If you are short, you need to sit towards the back. My mother was with me today & we had to move 4 times for her to see. The seats are so low that she had issues seeing over the other seats & other movie-goers in front of her. We sat in the 2nd to the last row. The theatre has a roomy area for your legs & feet & was clean. The bathrooms, however, were extremely dirty. The carpet in the hallway is stained, ripped, uneven, & sloppy. She tripped over one area but was able to steady herself. The hallway is also extremely uneven. Please watch yourself & anyone you are with in this area. If there are mobility issues, you may have problems maneuvering the hallway area. A good cleaning would do wonders for this place. Additionally, the rugs near the opening doors move very easily, so if you use a cane or walker, please be careful. It was sad to see it in such disarray. read more

You have to remember this is a small town theatre and sure it has some problems but they are consistently doing improvements and you can't beat the prices. We travel a lot and believe me there are many towns our size with closed and abandoned theatres. Be thankful for what we have. read more

I have a 120 inch projector in my living room. It did not cost a lot. We cannot go to this theatre because besides the gum that got all over our clothes, the screen is no larger than the one I have at home. I strongly suggest they combine theaters and installer a larger screen. read more

I've been going to this theatre since I was a little girl. I saw 'The Lion King' and 'Jurassic Park' here, and back then we called it "going to 'The Show'". It's always been small and a little beat up, but they've made a lot of improvements. The seats are big and comfy with lots of leg room. Going to The Roxy is like coming home. How in the hell does this theater rate higher than the theater in Peru? This place is the dumpiest theater I have EVER been in. It is old, dirty, and pathetic. If this theater was a person it would only be alive thanks to a life support machine. You see a movie in a theater, and the screen is tiny, and the speakers seem to be plug in speakers on a PC from the 90s. It really needs to be updated to a more modern theater but the people keep coming anyways so they don't have to. read more

I give it a 2 for the nice staff & great price for a movie... However a group of us went to see "The Nun" this past Saturday and what horrible experience. A group of 10 years old were sitting a row in front off and through the entire movie they were disruptive. They talked, laughed, took pictures, had their ringers on and threw popcorn at each other. After many began to SHHH the kids I kindly told them to please be quiet and when that didn't work I went and spoke with a manager. That also did nothing... Another women also went and informed management of the issue but the kinds continued and were never asked to leave. Not sure how a group of 10 year old's even got in the theater without any adults considering the movie was rated "R". My recommendations to staff would be to please be more cautions to unsupervised kids in the theater. We didn't hear much of the movie and we were not happy with the poor actions of getting the issue resolved. Disappointing overall.... read more

They improved there popcorn, seats, Screen I just went to see the movie inside out it was great nothing went wrong! It was better than 2014! And cheap stuff for a medium popcorn and medium sera mist it was $6 that is a good price! So go to Roxy!! read more

I think that Ottawa is very lucky to still have the theater even though it does need to have some updating. Look what happened in Streator. My biggest problem is that being handicapped it is hard to handle the floor in the lobby. I prefer not using the stairs, but would really like a railing on the wall to help us hold on to. Yes, there are still a lot of things that need to be fixed, drink holders on all seats, bathroom stall doors that are broken, and having been a projectionist, I can tell that the screens are getting old and will eventually need to be replaced. That takes time and money for the big repairs, but the management is trying their best by offering specials prices, and matinees. Unfortunately there is no way that you can make the theater completely handicapped accessible. As long as I am physically capable of going to this theater, my friend and I will continue to go once a week to see a matinee. That is the only place around that offers them.
