WORST NAILS IVE FOUND IN DUBUQUE SO FAR I went in yesterday for a full set of dip with tips. The length I chose was very short, & I got a square shape. When I called ahead, I said I was 5 min away and they said I could come in for my set right then, so I did. When I got there, I waited for a very long time, then when looking through the colors I saw they only had one book for dip, but seemingly a couple hundred choices for gel. Maybe not a critique but a note. When I sat down the tech immediately brought out the e-file & roughed my nail beds, ok that's normal. But then, she went STRAIGHT to applying the tips without touching my cuticles at ALL. While most places don't pay a ton of attention to them, (Still haven't found a place in DBQ that does your cuticles well) I've never seen this done. As she's putting on the tips one is completely crooked to the point that it's touching the finger nextdoor. I ask if she can fix it & i'm ignored until they go on to start filing & shaping the tips. they tried to file the slanted tip down... it still looked awful. so when she said "yes?" & showed me, & i said "no". she seemed pissed off that she actually had to reapply it. during the dipping process she left at least a millimeter or two at the base of my nail. making them look grown out on day one. the sides are not properly covered, & some are bumpy. they told me after the tips set that they would shape more after dipping, but what happened was she pulled out FOUR different files & did not change the shape of my nails once. they are not straight, or squared off. the corners are rounded (maybe this is their preference) all in all: i noticed that the staff treated customers only as sales, & definitely valued quantity over quality. needless to say im beyond disappointed. i wanted to love these nails but they're just awful. i wanted to leave feeling like i did something nice for myself. but i just felt like i wasted my money :/ ALL PHOTOS TAKEN DAY ONE JUST A FEW HOURS AFTER. read more

I had an overall great experience at VIP nails. I walked in at about 3 o'clock on a Monday and there were only a few people getting a pedicure. I was sat right away (after calling for an appointment at 2 o'clock) and it took about 45 minutes for both the dip removal and new color. They had a lot of pretty options for the dip powder and I chose two colors with no issues. I did not catch the name of the woman who did them, but she was sweet and efficient. They are a thinner then my normal dip, and I'm very rough with my hand so hopefully the nails last. I would definitely go back again if these continue to hold up. read more

Just got these done yesterday morning. Went back today because they look like they already need to be filled and sides aren't painted at all. It was rushed. I didn't have a hand massage or my cuticles pushed back or anything. Just painted and added the tips. Nothing else. They're bubbly since I got dip powder and they weren't filed down and one nail is not shaped. When I went back in they said that's how they're suppose to look. Not going back. I went there this afternoon to get my nails done for my wedding tomorrow. I was with a friend. As soon as we got in, a lady asked what we wanted and instructed us to sit down. It was good that they immediately took care of us but the two ladies who were doing our nails were not nice at all. The lady doing mine asked me what shape I preferred for my nails. I kind of made the round shape with my hands and said 'this shape' coz I don't normally get my nails done. I only went there coz it was my wedding the next day. And she yelled at me, "What shape?! Round or square?!" And my friend was trying to choose her nail color got yelled at too. The lady was so impatient with her. They we're not busy but they were rushing us. He rarely talked to other employees and also asked questions to converse with me and pass time. I got my nails dipped and he was great about asking how thick I wanted my nails and did them efficiently. Just got the second worse manicure of my life. But maybe this one was worst than the first because of the price. I've lived in NY and I live in Miami. It's between $3-7 more expensive for a manicure than either of those cities. I was in Dubuque for my grandmother's funeral and popped in here to get my nails done. Nail tech didn't ask my what shape I wanted and then didn't shape. They were all uneven lengths. Didn't clean my nail beds. Cuticle nippers did not appear to be sterilized. Left skin hanging off my cuticles. There was polish on all of my cuticles. As I was drying, I realized I would just have to take it off myself before tomorrow, so I asked for them to remove the polish. They didn't offer to fix. I asked for a refund and they refused. So I guess this was the worst manicure of my life, as the other bad one I had, the owner was apologetic and willing to fix. read more

One of the worst experiences of my life. Male that spoke no English and had no nail training completely hacked my toes with the file and drill. Had no idea how to file or shape nails. Complete fraud and hack. The manager should have never had a person like that in his shop doing nails. He even left nude gel polish on my nails and said it was my nail and argued with me about it. Went there for a pedicure and got right in they did an amazing job place was the cleanest one I've been to.

Really pitiful. Came in for a mani/pedi and nixed the mani in the middle of my pedi because of the sub-par treatment. Nothing done to my heels other than a quick scrub, no calve massage, my cuticles weren't manicured very well and nails were not filed down smoothly. I hated paying that $23. Review update: I'm in awful need of another, actual manicure. My cuticles are just horrible and they hurt so bad! Not only did I pay WAY too much for this manicure, but now I'm going to need to pay for another manicure to fix the damage done. Every day my cuticles hurt worse and peel more. This is just the worst experiences I've ever had with a manicure. I've had someone cut me accidentally before, but they didn't massacre me, like this woman did. Nice staff. Tommy gave Excellent directions. We were only traveling in the area. So depending on where you're from; in Dubuque, IA they include TAXES with your services. So for 2 pedi's one mani, and only one was a No Chip. We paid $95$! This did not include the tip either for TWO providers. The no chip mani took TOO LONG! Why she didn't have my (NATURAL) nails soaking while her co-worker was doing my mani? This really could have saved us a lot of TIME! And she justified not repairing my cracked nail! Which is going to cost me later! It's already snagging my hair, my clothes. I'm disappointed . It would really be unique if those providing a service would treat the customer the way they would like to be treated. read more

There were four people in my group and we were all getting mani/pedis. We arrived around 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon and they were able to get us all in right away (now I know why!) The pedi area was clean, the mani area...not really. The pedi was lame. No foot/calf massage, no cuticle clean up, and there were three toe nails that weren't even completely painted. Apparently they don't use the disposable flip flops here because I had to walk barefooted to the manicure station. One lady quickly ripped my cuticles off with the trimmer and slapped some sticky lotion on my arms. Again, no massage and she didn't even shape my nails. She then moved on to another person in my group to rip through their fingers. A man came over to finish my fingernails and by this time my nails were peeling and my nail beds were red and sore. my nail polish was bubbly and again, a lot of missed areas. My cuticles look worse than when I came in. When he was finished, I walked over to the drying station which was on a rug that was covered with nail clippings and other random crumbs. I put my own sandals on and sat for a few minutes but didn't want to sit there anymore because it just felt icky. I'd like to say that I was the only one in my group that had issues with their services but nope, they all had the same (if not worse) experience. Gross. None of us will ever return. read more

I went to VIP at the recommendation of a friend with hopes of fixing the very worst manicure I have ever had. They were fabulous. It was no small job to make my nails look great again, but they did a fantastic job and I am now scheduling all future appointments at VIP. read more

DON'T GO TO VIP NAILS!! Poor customer service!! They rush you through and skip steps!! Crappy polishing job that doesn't last!! Not relaxing!! Overpriced!! They just want your $$ and don't care if you leave unhappy!! I went on a slow night about 90 min before closing for a pedi for my boyfriend and a mani/pedi for me. There was only one other person in the salon. 4 staff members were present and they rushed us the whole time. They soaked our feet for about 60 seconds, trimmed and barely filed our toe nails, trimmed a few of the cuticles, put lotion on our legs, painted my toes, and helped us out of our chairs. That was it. It lasted 15 minutes at most - and only because they kept looking at the TV and talking to each other. No type of callus removal was done and filing and cuticle removal was 40% completed. When I said something about using a pumice stone or callus remover they said neither of us needed it. It had been about a month since my last pedi and it was the first one ever for my bf so we both needed rough patches removed. That should have been enough to make me leave - my fault because I didn't. When I sat down for my manicure I looked at my toes closer and pointed out the crappy job. I had bubbles and a lot of polish on my toes. So bad that I wish I had taken pics to post here. The lady got pissed at me for pointing it out and started raising her voice speaking in her native language. Another lady came over and attempted to clean up the first lady's crappy job but I couldn't really tell what she was doing because I was still sitting at the manicure table and the lighting was bad at my angle. The second lady did my manicure and didn't use a base coat, only put on one coat of polish, and one coat of topcoat. I've been getting mani's and pedi's for years so I know what to expect from a good mani/pedi. This was the worst one I've ever had and I would never refer it to anyone else. I won't be going back. P.s. My mani didn't even last 18 hours before the polish started to lift in the corners and peel. :( read more

The nails look good, but in the middle of putting my acrylics on, the man went over to a little girl and said hi when he was in the middle of doing my nails. Also he was kicking and stepping on my toes and bumping into my knees under the table about 8 times. The owner was creepy and kept asking if I wanted water even though I said no thank you for the fourth time. The flyer that they had sitting on the dirty nail drying thing, said that acrylics were $30 dollars which is a good and affordable but it never said that acrylics with gel was an extra $20 dollars!!! My nails were supposed to be about $35 dollars including the tip and the total came out to be about $55 dollars. I do not recommend this place if you are in a hurry because than man said about 30 minutes when there was only 4 people in the building, and ended up waiting about 1 hour and a half and plus the 1 whole hour to do the nails them self. I am never going back here and also the man made fun of my nails for biting them... This place was disgusting, the people were rude, and it was super expensive. read more

This is the absolute worst nail salon I have ever been to. I grew up in DBQ and now live in IL and I tried this place once and wasn't satisified, but decided to give it another shot over the weekend and I'm officially DONE. You are rushed from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Not to metion they get up and walk around while they are supposed to be giving you mani or pedi. The woman this weekend got up at least 5 times during my 10 minute mani (very short!) and didn't even file my nails. When she had "finished" only 3/4 of my nails had paint on them and there was polish all over my skin around my nails. I asked her to polish my entire nail and to clean the paint around my fingers and she acted as if I was a burden to her. My mom sat and waited almost a half hour in the pedi chair before anyone started on her feet. She said the woman who "filed" her nails looked around the entire time and basically tapped her toe with the nail filer and completely skipped over the other foot. I should have known how bad this place would be when I first walked in and they only has a small amount of nail polish colors available and all were only half or a quarter of the way full. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. The only think this place has going for them is the location.... The only reason I gave this 1 star is because Yelp made me before it could post. read more
