I…read morehappened to be in Plano over the weekend for a conference so since I came this far, I hopped on a bus and scheduled myself for less than 24 hours in Waco! I didn't realize that the #Magnolia properties are closed on Sunday, so I found other fun ways to get the Waco hospitality from the moment I arrived. I was actually glad that I got to see the town for what it is a few days before people traveled there from all over for #Silobration. I look forward to returning to Waco for a longer visit! I booked this tour through the Viator website and the tour group was really responsive from the beginning. I was actually concerned that my bus arriving to town might cause the tour to be delayed if they waited for me, but they were so kind with accommodating my schedule. It all worked out as it should timewise. I really enjoyed learning about Waco from Shannon and Don's perspective. First of all they are super friendly and welcoming and make you feel like neighbors! They shared stories of individuals from this small town who had done great things. They talked about big natural disasters that the town overcame! They showed us the natural beauty of the area around the zoo, and the rivers around town. I loved the college town feel too that made me long to go back to those college days. I also got to see several of my favorite fixer upper homes as we drove through town - many of which are now airbnbs! I don't want to spoil all that they shared, but I highly recommend their tour and will definitely return to do their river sunset tour. I also really appreciated that since they knew I was on foot and trying to get to the Dr Pepper Museum before they closed in less than an hour, they offered to drop me off there, which is not the normal ending point for the tour.

My friend and I drove around on our own and passed many of the points of interest that are on the tour. However, without being in Brad and Don's company, we would have never known about the history of the city... or been there for their dad jokes (ha,ha!). The reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because it's mainly a driving tour. It's hard to hear the commentary from the back of the bus; and, we only stopped twice: once to see Common Grounds and get a drink, and the second to stop in a park to see a view. It was quite chilly in their Sprinter; and I would have preferred to have more places to explore from outside the vehicle.

It is really close to the Silos and parking here will save you the $10 Silo parking fee. There is not always someone at the desk, nor does the phone always get answered. BUT, the hotel has EXCELLENT communication. We received a text before checking in with all the info we needed. Then, advice to text if we needed anything. Actually we sent a few texts that were IMMEDIATELY answered. Impressive! Even in the largest of other hotels, it can take some time to get a real person. We were immediately texted when we had a question about parking, then accessing the room, and others. I read on one review that there are about 10 parking spots. Actually, there are probably 25 to 30 in the lot. We found that we could park in the lot with no issues at various times. NOTE: Some spots are marked with "Reserved Parking". I asked the hotel and they related that hotel guests can park in those spots. We were told about possible train noise. We did hear it a few times, but it wasn't bothersome. In fact, there were ear plugs in a black pouch in the bathroom should this be an issue. There was also live music in the 4th floor bar until midnight. We could hardly hear it & we were on the 4th floor as well. BTW, there are superior views of the silos from the rooftop and other places in the hotel.

What's it near? It's DIRECTLY next to the Dr Pepper Museum. It's only a five-min walk to Magnolia: Chip & Jo Gaines' shopping area. But, do NOT come here for the "breakfast bites", which is their substitution for breakfast. Sadly, there are only 2 breakfast foods, both bad for you: cereal laden with sugar & yogurt laden with sugar. And, for a boutique hotel, there was a lack of coffee. Yes, there was a coffee maker in the room with 2 pods for us, but no creamer. It was on another floor. We were here 2 nights, and the pods weren't replaced. No coffee the next morning and nowhere in the hotel to get some complementary coffee. That was odd because almost every hotel has coffee, some 24 hrs a day (Holiday Inn, etc). In summation, the location couldn't be beat. Check in was smooth with Courtney at the front desk. We would have never found this hotel were it not for a Travelzoo offer.

I had the Tikka Masala flatbread which was just OK, not enough flavor and too doughy. I'm willing to give them another chance the next time I'm in town.

Its not a large footprint, but ample enough so one will not feel crowded. As of this post there are 3 commercial flights between Waco and Dallas that cover a distance of 90 miles, and 50 minutes via American Eagle. The flights tend to be booked as American Eagle are normally staffed / managed by 3rd parties. Because of various reasons the outsourcing of these flights can result in delays. I some times question if it's easier to drive or fly between Dallas and Waco, or potentially fly into Austin. But if flying it's an easy commute flight if the connections make sense. I have flown into Waco several times and have never had a bad experience at this facility.

It was great to not have to make separate arrangements for each of my rides from unfamiliar vendors. I will be returning to Waco for work again, and I will only call Elite Tranaportation.
