Old Hollywood Walking Tour - April our tour guide had many fascinating historical facts & stories of the beautiful architecture along Hollywood Blvd.

I have always wanted to go on a walking tour of Old Hollywood historic sites. Earlier tonight, I…read moreparticipated in the Haunted Hollywood walking tour led by April Clemmer. It was such a thrill because we visited several locations that have fascinated me for many years. These locations included the Hillview Apartments (now the Hudson Apartments), the Hollywood Pacific Theatre, the Knickerbocker, and Boardner's. In keeping with the haunted theme, the tour takes place at night with a start time of 7pm. At each location, April briefly describes the history, and then relates a macabre story that she has learned about either from reading literature or from conversations with neighborhood experts. She seeks the truth and is very careful to differentiate between historical facts and rumors. The spooky stories are as diverse as the Hollywood landscape itself. The highlight of the tour was being able to go inside The Hollywood Building. We took an elevator ride up to the 4th floor of this historic property. It was like stepping into a classic film noir picture from the 1940s. One could imagine private eye Philip Marlowe walking through the hallway. Memorable details included the functioning dial above the elevator in the lobby, as well as the vintage radiator heaters in the rooms upstairs. If you like the history of Hollywood and the Golden Age of movies, then I highly recommend the Old Hollywood walking tour. You will learn about silent film stars, vintage movie theatres, and legendary restaurants. April freely gives out her knowledge of the subject matter and is happy to answer questions. I am looking forward to going on the day-time version of her Old Hollywood walking tour.

I've always admired vintage clothing, but I wasn't familiar with the older brands or their history. April knew EVERYTHING! She was so knowledgeable and was able to pick out gems I would have otherwise overlooked. I want to do one of her group tours next. Such a unique and fun experience for fashion lovers.

The daughter was able to escape and run to a neighbor's home and call police. Meanwhile, Dr. Perelson proceeded to kill himself by drinking a glass of acid. Since this incident in 1959, the 1925 Spanish Revival mansion has remained vacant and perfectly untouched. If you were to peer through the windows of the home you would see that the Christmas tree, the presents, and the interior décor have remained just as it did the night of the murders. A few months after the murders the home was sold at auction to a couple who used the home mainly for property storage. After they died around 1994 the property was passed on to their son who has continued to keep the property as is. It's worth mentioning that there is another famous spooky home that sits directly behind this one, the Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House. http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/06/local/me-mansion6

This is literally just a house, on a cul de sac that's impossible to back out of. I know people love to come and take a gander, but there's nothing to see. This is just a sad story about a mentally ill man and some clueless investors, nothing more. See it if you must, since it is an interesting piece of history, but don't be surprised if it's a waste of time.

They offer weekly and monthly architecture / history walking tours in Downtown LA with few seasonal tours. [Weekly Saturday tours]: Historic Downtown, Broadway Historic Theatre and Commercial District, Art Deco, and Union Station. [Monthly Saturday tours]: Angelino Heights, Modern Skyline, and The Biltmore Hotel lobby. *** Historic Downtown Walking Tour - each Saturday at 9:45 AM *** [Parking]: Option #1 (shorter walk) is the Pershing Square underground garage (532 S. Olive Street, Los Angeles, 90013) - $9 all day on weekends. 2nd option (longer walk) is the Westlawn Garage at Central Library (524 S. Flower Street) - discount is offered to Los Angeles Public Library card holders (parking validation is available at the library's Information Desk on the first floor). I only paid $1 at the Westlawn Garage with parking validation ($1.00 flat rate - validation still apply even if visitors come before 9:30 AM). [Special notes]: Arrive at least ten minutes early to check in. Tour meets at the center of Pershing Square near the mini-groves of Orange trees. The tour was supposed to start at 9:45 AM, but everyone arrived at 9:30 AM so our tour had an early start. [Price]: $25 per adult. $18 per youth (17 years and under). [Duration]: Our tour started at 9:30 AM and ended at 12 PM. The starting point was Pershing Square and the ending point was behind The Bradbury Building. All tours are led by volunteers. [Experience]: The tour mainly focuses on discussing beaux-arts vs art deco buildings. Our group walked into 5 different buildings including PacMutual Building, Los Angeles Public Library, The CalEdison, Grand Central Market, and The Bradbury Building (aka known from the 1982 movie Blade Runner). There was a short restroom break at Los Angeles Public Library at 10:30 AM. Our group also rode Angels Flight Railway and fare was covered as a part of the tour. [Conclusion]: A solid tour and it was a great experience to learn some basic history of buildings in Downtown LA. I would definitely consider doing some of their other tours to learn more about LA.

Between rebuilding our lives and our home, we simply didn't have the time or money for a honeymoon. When I saw the gondola ride advertised, I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We made the drive from Rancho Cucamonga, and traffic was horrible. By the time we arrived, we were stressed and running late. From the moment we walked in, the young lady at the front desk (she had blonde hair, and I'm so sorry I forgot your name! ‍) greeted us with the warmest smile. She immediately told me to relax and assured me everything was going to be okay. Then I realized my phone was on only 5%, and I asked if they happened to have a charger. Without hesitation, she handed me a portable charger so I could capture the memories from our very first gondola ride. Our gondolier, Waylon (I hope I'm spelling your name correctly! ), was absolutely amazing. He was kind, professional, and so knowledgeable about the history of the area. He made the experience even more special. At the end of our ride, the sweet young lady surprised me with a beautiful rose. Such a simple gesture meant so much. After the incredibly difficult year and a half we've had, this team completely turned our stressful day around and gave us a first wedding anniversary we'll never forget. Thank you for your kindness, your hospitality, and for reminding us that even the smallest acts of compassion can make the biggest difference.

I will start this review off first with our gondolier was Mason was fantastic! He is ambitious, pleasant, genuine, and so kind! He greeted us and took no time with explaining to use the process and where we were at. He is very knowledgeable and took the absolute best photos capturing important memories. Honestly, he made the gondola ride so much better and memorable! Customer service is the upmost important to me, especially when you are paying for a service or goods. I would definitely come back here and I would request for Mason ahead of time (if he is still there) because he is a Gem and will be going very far in life. The canals are beautiful, the water isn't rocky, very scenic, and the weather was perfect. Such a romantic experience. The company provides ice and cups, but we brought our own. Parking was free! Me and my honey were highly satisfied with the whole experience!

It takes research and preparation and it's worth it! My husband loves movies like "The Long Goodbye" and "Dead Again", LA based thrillers, so that's how we discovered High Tower Elevator because they used it as a location for these cool films. So we looked into it. More trivia, it is mentioned by Michael Connelly in his novels ("Echo Park) and he used to live here, cool, tight? Hard to find parking in the area, but since we got tickets for the Bowl and we were parked in their lot, we figured we should take advantage and walk to it. Just a few minutes walk, from Highland, we took a right on Camrose and another right on High Tower Drive and here you are! If you want to see it closer, take a right on Los Altos (stairs) and another right on Broadview Terrace and you will be able to see the building and the elevator closer up! A quick hike up the stairs, nothing really. At 2200 Broadview Terrace, there's a Frank Lloyd Wright House, the Otto Bolman House. Lots of hidden gems, art deco beauties around, great views of the city and of the hills around. There is even a bench to sit, relax, admire the beauty around. Fun excursion in our own city where there's always something new to discover, something unique and original. The elevator is for residents only, but it was fun to see it. The tower is inspired by Italian campaniles, built in the 20's. Great slice of LA history, always great to dig deep and find great places off the beaten path!
